ESPN is reporting that Russell's Uncle, says the contact signing is close.  If this contract doesn't include any of the recoup clauses Davis was bitching about, and the Raiders just caved, I will be pissed, because if they weren't going to stick to there guns, they should have got his ass into camp on time, so he could compete for the start on opening day.

ALAMEDA, Calif. -- Is No. 1 draft pick JaMarcus Russell, who has held out since the beginning of training camp in search of a contract, close to signing with the Oakland Raiders?

His uncle sure thinks so.

The Raiders "realize they have dropped the ball, and they started negotiating in good faith," Ray Russell, JaMarcus' uncle and adviser, told USA Today in an interview from Atlanta.
