DLD 9-7-07 JaMarcus on the way...

The intrigue begins with JaMarcus close to signing. Will the Raiders release Daunte if JaMarcus signs saturday? It's possible as they will save $2.5M. I think we'll all be disappointed and think about what he could have done for us this season. Maybe they release or trade Walter. In the long run we know who the future QB is, even though he won't be ready for another year.

So how will we measure improvement this season? Just win baby!

Releasing Culpepper Would Be Dumb:
You know that by week 4 there will be a starting QB or two that go down for the season and McCown, Walter or C Pep would fetch us a draft pick for next year.

I say we release C Johnson and resign him to the practice squad.

I Agree
Unless Mr. Davis has taken a page from Moneyball and Billy and is trying to cut costs Culpepper is a far superior QB who may be just good enough to get us to 8 wins and beyond. A lot of things would have to happen, but there's no reason to deny that the more wins this team gets the more excited Raider Nation will be to see our team succeed now.
I obviously don't have the answer but Daunte did nothing to dissuade anybody that he is game ready right now (other than not knowing the entire playbook).

The scary thing is:
Daunte is not Lane's type of QB. He sees him as a work in progress.

He takes too many sacks by trying to make big plays.

The good news is that Daunte has been adapting well enough that the Raiders would be foolish to let him go. Period.

Defense can win Championships.

Daunte can make us a playoff offense and we already have a playoff caliber defense.

I'm afraid that
Culpepper will be released, and Russell will be thrown in this year.  McCown is not going to lead us anywhere, I think we are squandering a real good chance of winning this year with Culpepper.
