This team is mailing the season in

I guess they want to get rid of Cable also. Other than Wilson and Nhamdi, there wasn’t a single player who did anything positive. Well, the special teams played all right. I am usually very lenient with young players but for the first time I got the feeling that Russell might not be any good. He did run the ball twice which was good to see, showed some maturity, but wow! constantly throwing 3 yd. passes doesn’t loosen up a defense. I usually see things half full but after today I see nothing positive, and looks to me like this team is a long way from being any good. I see what Ryan and Flacco are doing in their rookie seasons, then I watch Russell and I have to ask myself how good will Russell be, there has been almost no progress from game one. As for the defense what else is there to be said that hasn’t been said before, just not very good.

JLH

still had an alright day on special teams. Russell should be much farther along than he is now. I think it’s time to sign a veteran QB or a better one (Isn’t Simms available) and let Russell spend now and the entire off season learning.

Accuracy is

JaMarcus’ biggest problem (and staring down recievers). He has a long way to go. I hope today’s game doesn’t ruin his confidence though. In a perfect world he could’ve learned the game from a veteran QB and sat out a year or two (ala the Aaron Rodgers program), but we are in Raiderland and it didn’t work out that way.

Al Davis is the PROBLEM.

He is getting closer and closer to go 6 ft under, and committed to take the team with him.

Can We Like

Ask or forcefully take him out of the organization. I hate AL Davis. I seriously do now. Please, die Al. Please.

The commisioner should force him to relinquish active control of the team.

Reason: Al Davis is destroying a once-proud NFL franchise. Let’s face it – the NFL today is no longer the game it was in the 1970’s, yet Al continues to run the team like it is. There is no way the Raiders will ever have a coach who will be able to succeed as long as Davis interferes in how the team is run, from the coaching staff, to the players who are signed. Right now we have a bunch of money spent on losers like Javon Walker and DeAngelo Hall. As long as Davis tosses out fat paychecks to players of questionable value, and then forces his coaches to play these sacks of shite, we will never see a winning Raider team again.

What's sad is we have the highest payroll in football

and the one who deserves the most, may not be a Raider next year.

comment on russell

i have to agree that russell didn’t look good at all today. but i still think he’s got way too much talent to say that he’s no good. he has absolutely no talent at receiver or on the o-line. its hard to be any good when your on your back or on the run. i do think though he should have run on his own a lot more, that would have been one way to help loosen up atlanta’s defense. even his coaches are no good. it was terrible play calling be knapp, i could have even defensed his offensive calls, too predictable.

by phredex20 on Nov 2, 2008 7:29 PM PST reply actions

something serious

has to change in oakland. get rid of al’s yes men or women and get a real gm in there. and al, just go away. i have stuck with you through the good times and the bad. but if you don’t do something about rob ryan and his lame defensive schemes then you will loose me as a believer.

by phredex20 on Nov 2, 2008 7:32 PM PST reply actions

I was there.

That. Was. Ugly.

I was also one that wanted to be patient with our young quarterback but, come on, show some improvement, dude. (Though I also agree that the o-line and receivers should shoulder some of the blame). The defense has absolutely no pride. Home games should not be over by halftime, at least not against a team like the Falcons. Does anyone have a good explanation as to why Ryan is still in charge of this unit?

As for Al, he’s an easy target. Not saying that those calling for his head aren’t correct; but damn it, the players have to be held accountable for some of this mess. You have the most loyal fans in the country (I didn’t boo, but don’t blame those who did), and you can’t even show up to play.

As I type more comments come in…the NFL isn’t going to do anything about Davis, but you know who should? His former players. The ones who put this team on the map to begin with. Why aren’t people like Jim Otto telling Davis it’s time to swallow his pride, and step aside? He had such a good thing with Gruden, and couldn’t stand seeing Chucky get most of the credit. If Davis can’t see for himself that his legacy has gone to shit, Otto and the likes need to tell him. And they need to say it loud, and they need to do it now.

I'm here to talk about the past.

Agree with you all the way

I think there is more Silver and Black pride displayed on this website and in the stands than with this current “team” of “players”. Most of this season’s team should be forced to turn in their uniforms, as they (the players) are not worthy of them (the unis). I like the idea of the former players telling Al to go away. I also think a former coach or two (hint: these are the two guys who one Superbowls for Al) need to join in.

As for today’s game, I turned it off early in the 2nd quarter. The players were not giving me any reason to watch – I told Mrs doctorK that it was like watching a pro team taking on a high school team.

Does anyone have a good explanation as to why Ryan is still in charge of this unit?

Al Davis likes him for some reason. I can see why Kiffin wanted to get rid of him – those first three drives by the Falcons showed a defense that was unprepared to play, had no clue what to do to adjust, and CAN’T TACKLE TO SAVE THEIR FARKING LIVES.

For the first time ever, I was ready to leave by halftime.

Sometimes you can have a bad half, but there is at least some life, and maybe some turnovers killed you. But there was not even an ounce of hope that we were going to make a game out of this and I am completely shocked and stunned that the score remained what it was at the half.

And I agree. Get Madden and Flores in there, too. Davis is so great about rambling on about the past; does he not see the past five-plus seasons? We’re a freaking laughingstock, Al. It’s time to start fresh. And I mean change everything. Drastic changes, subtle changes, whatever. Get rid of Hells Bells, for all I care. Fire the cheerleaders. OK, keep the cheerleaders, but fire everyone else. Stop acting like the past is going to save the present and the future. It’s not. If you want to believe that the greatness of this team is in its future, then you must take action. Stop feeding your loyal- and paying- customers meaningless phrases. Team of the Decades? The only decade I give a damn about is this one. And very soon, it will be the next one. You want to honor the past? Fine. Retire some numbers, and move on.

I'm here to talk about the past.

When they scored the 3rd touchdown

I stopped watching the game and started doing chores around the house. You are right about Al Davis living in the past. If you live in the past you HAVE NO FUTURE!! Al it is time to loosen the grip.

The Raiders should refund the fans today

They could deduct the gate for the game from the salaries of the players and coaches who were responsible for this abortion.

I Left after the first quarter:

I had seats on the 40 yard line, 29 rows up and just couldn’t stand it. I have NEVER even left early, let alone 15 minutes into the game. I just had to go…

But when they start scheming us the way these guys did, and we weren't particularly ready for it, anything can happen."

defense Davis because of what Davis has done for them. Like insurance what everything. They won’t hurt what Davis gives them.

Another thing that drives me crazy

is the total lack of any imagination in the offense or defense. The Raiders play it straight up, man to man on defense and offense is line up and throw short passes. I watch a lot of football games and almost every other team is running gimmicks, misdirection plays, fake one way, go another etc. etc.
It is very clear that other teams love to play the Raiders because they don’t have to worry about anything other than vanilla offense, and vanilla defense.
The defense looked bewildered from the first play to the last. The offense was just painful to watch.

by Laoren on Nov 2, 2008 8:04 PM PST reply actions

Amen

That fake punt that we tried? Was it last week or the week before? Hell, seems like forever ago. That was beautiful!! Keep the other guy honest, is that so difficult? When the fans start calling the next play, you know you’re predictable. It’s one thing to lose or even get beat. But to go through the motions? It’s an insult to Raider fans everywhere.

I'm here to talk about the past.

by 67MARQUEZ on Nov 2, 2008 8:08 PM PST up reply actions

Part of the Problem

with the lack imagination is that McFadden is injured. They probably have alot of plays strictly for him but you are right I haven’t seen much spark from this offense. Can we please get a stop on 3rd down on defense. We man up on first and second downs and then zone it up on third? Our defense is bad. It is time for Rob Ryan to go.

The roster needs an enema

The roster needs to be flushed. Here are the only ones still worthy of being part of this team:

Nnamdi
G. Wilson
Morrison
Howard
Lechler
Jano
McFadden
O’Neal
Gallery
Miller
JLH
Russell

Twelve out of 53…Pathetic.

We have no choice on Russell based on where he was drafted and how much was invested. He deserves a better supporting cast, coaching and game plan. The 2009 season will be the time to determine whether Russell rises to his potential and becomes a star or will be forever labeled a bust.

The entire coaching staff needs to be flushed from top to bottom. This needs to be planned now and executed the Monday after the game in Tampa. An entire new regime needs to be employed then, including a fresh scouting dept to be ready for the ’09 draft where we will be in the top 5 again.

Your team is your child...You love it no matter what.

More Russell

Chances are he will be playing for yet another new coach next season (unless anyone here believes that Cable is more than what his interim tag suggests). The coaching carousel that Davis has created (pretty much since he moved the team back) creates an instability that doesn’t get talked about enough. Imagine working for a new boss every year? To ask anyone to be productive under this situation is crazy. Eight coaches in 13-plus seasons, and only Gruden has lasted more than two years.

So as easy as it is to say “Russell isn’t the answer”, you have to give the young man time, as you have to give a coach and a system time. This is hardly brain surgery. When since moving back have the Raiders been successful? During Gruden’s time. Granted, he had talent in abundance to work with. But he came in, weeded out the bad, and made his presence felt. He was given a long leash (well, long by recent standards) to work with so that the winning attitude he brought to camp and the system he put in place actually had time work. Only coach I have seen since who tried to do that was Lane. Same work ethic, same ideas about tossing the rotten apples aside. Regardless, you have to allow your coach some time, and realize that wins and losses aren’t nearly as important as- and I have touched on this before- consistent play. Two steps forward and one step back is clearly better than one step forward, two steps back.

I'm here to talk about the past.

by 67MARQUEZ on Nov 3, 2008 5:38 AM PST up reply actions

True

But if we don’t get a real NFL left tackle and a professional #1 wide receiver then Russell will never advance. The coaching thing is very relevant, but those coaches have to be quality, not wannabes or has-beens. I mean look at Norv Turner now and what he is “doing” to the Chargers. So, consistent coaching is a must, but it has to be coupled with quality coaches that are smart in preparation and smart on game day.

Your team is your child...You love it no matter what.

by TheRaiderWay on Nov 3, 2008 5:53 AM PST up reply actions

Agreed.

If you don’t surround Russell with enough talent, everything else is moot.

P.S. love the sigline. Can we at least put the Raiders on “timeout”?

I'm here to talk about the past.

this team would never have quit like this

with kiffin as the coach. and any J-Rus haters, you have to realize that no1’s performance on the team is good at all. Are you gonna blame fargas for these horrible running games lately no. the system sucks ass, the blocking sucks ass, the recievers are very mediocre and with the system they are playing exponentially worse than they are capable of playing. this is a joke!!!!
