Raiders to release DeAngelo Hall
http://blogs.nfl.com/2008/11/04/raiders-to-release-cb-hall/
Unbelievable if it happens. The Raiders are truly in a state of dysfunctionality.
If they perge the roster that is fine but giving up a 2nd rounder plus basically giving away Washington makes zero sense. I would guess Javon is next.
Hopefully it means Chaz and big Mario get reps to see what we got to figure out our 2009 pick.
THEY BETTER SIGN NMANDI WITH THE $$$$$ SAVED

Enema time
I said right after the Atlanta game that this roster needed to be flushed except for 12 players that are worthy. This is a good start and needs to be done. Sometimes you have to “shock and awe” to completely change directions and correct the huge mistakes that were made.

Tommy Kelly is supposedly on the list too. Rumored to be total of 15.

I'm just wondering
if those who supported Al when he fired Kiffin can see whats really going on here. I mean this is an absolute joke. This is unfreakinbelieveable. I really think that raider fans should boycott a game. Shit watch it on tv, maybe if absolutely no one shows up it will send Al a message. THIS TEAM SUCKS!!! worse run organization in all of sports is an understatement.

100% agree. Until Raider fans stop putting their hard earned cash into Al's pocket, Al will
continue to ruin this once great franchise. A complete boycott of the games and buying the paraphernalia will force Al into selling, which is the only way to get this ship turned.

Pretty much my first thought was Kiffin/Al dispute
Wasn’t one of the big issues the fact that Kiffin was complaining about some of the players Al brought in, most specifically J Walker? And didn’t Al convince Walker not to retire during preseason, instead convincing Walker to keep the money and stick with the team? And isn’t Al now, in effect, admitting that Cable can’t be expected to win with the very same players Kiffin was expected to win with? Wanna bet this all makes it into Kiffin’s complaint to the league to get his salary paid. Actually, paying Kiffin his salary will just put him in the same category as Hall and Walker: a bad personnel choice and financial decision made by Al.

I don't
think that’s fair about Kiffin. The players were really buying into his strategy. And it WAS working. Slowly, maybe. But Kiffin knew he was sunk from the word go in the offseason when he had no say in personnel at all.

exactly
think about it. weeks 1-4 our team had some decent promise. then cable comes in and we just compeltly enter the shitter. kiffin was our new john gruden. he was a smart coach doing w/e he could to keep us in the game. to go as far as we did wih this team is a true testament to lane kiffin. with kiffin we where maybe another season away from being a contender. if kffin had all control we coudl have been a real good team real soon. but Al’s jealousy ruined us again. good job al good job

I actaully kind of liked Hall
who’s going to fill in for next year, he was the best option to play opposite Nnamdi that’s available and should be available.

This is just sad...
Raiders fans are some of the best fans in all of sports, any sport, and to see what is happening to this franchise, and indirectly you guys and gals as a result, simply sucks. No other way to put it. As was said before, remember that you the fans do have the power.
I may be a Broncos fan and hate the Raiders, but the rivalry and the NFL is better when the Raiders matter. Hopefully you’ll be back soon.

Just what we need, sympathy from a Bronco fan
No knock on you, Guru. I appreciate the sentiment. But this is what we, the fans, have sunk to. At one time the Raiders ruled this division and the cry of “lock up your daughters, the Raiders are coming to town” wasn’t just said in jest. Now we’re reduced to an object of pity, which we are, because we stand by this team through thick and thin, hoping they’ll turn it around. I wish I didn’t care so much about this team, and that I hadn’t discovered football back in the early 70’s so it wouldn’t hurt so much to remember how great they once were.

Boycott
Might take some incredible planning, but it could work. This week is out, and the next two games are against the Chiefs and Patriots. Might be a hard sell even though KC sucks, and Brady is hurt. Ah, but the last game of the season against Houston; there’s our opportunity.
And let me speak for the record that “admitting your mistakes” and/or “sending messages” by releasing players is not a bad thing. I also think that Hall should not be one of those guys.
Anyways, if you are all serious about a boycott- and remember some of us have already paid hard-earned money for these tickets- let me know. I remember in 1980 when the fans protested the move to LA by not going into the game until five minutes in. This season is bound to get worse as it moves along, so waiting until the last game to boycott wouldn’t necessarily kill the moment of the current mood.
I'm here to talk about the past.

boycott?
I just checked the TV listings and I see that this weekends game is not blacked out in the bay area, doesn’t that mean it is a sell out? After the worst spanking in I don’t know how long the Raiders still have a sell out? Raiders fans are too die hard to boucott anything.
The crowd is going to be pissed this weekend though. I just hope that something changes soon.

I agree
We’re gluttons for punishment, that’s for certain.
So maybe we get ‘em all to go in late. What’s a little extra tailgate time on the last game of the season? The other problem is, too many Raider fans are just as loyal to Al as they are to the team itself. Maybe the numbers have gone down, judging from what I’ve been reading here, but he is still held in fairly high standing. I think it’s high time the loyal, paying customers speak out in some fashion or another.
I'm here to talk about the past.

Nothing better
than a purge and house cleaning. Al is not the only owner who has fallen into the free agent trap. It doesn’t work because guys who are satisfied don’t play as hard as hungry guys. The average career in the NFL is 4 years and rosters change dramatically over that period of time. Al went crazy this year throwing out huge amounts of money and got in return a bunch of satisfied players not willing to lay it out on the line. If Al gives Cable the go ahead to purge this roster then we have finally turned the corner with this franchise.
It means Al sees what the coaches see, guys who are not performing and unwilling to sacrifice to win, time will tell.

Shouldn't the GM go too?
Or is that Al? This move makes no sense at all. You just signed the guy this past off-season. If hall was a bad signing and there are 12-15 other players that also should be cut loose then its more a reflection of the GM than anyone else. If the GM is Al then all he is saying is that he should fire himself or at least hire a replacement.
Does he think he is sending a message to the rest of the team? How is that going to work? bewildering to say the least

The 2008-2009 Season. It's a wrap!
This is what the a few of the players had to say:
"I’ve never been in a situation where you cut one of the best players," said safety Gibril Wilson, another of the team’s offseason acquisitions. "That’s strange to me. It’s almost like we’re throwing in the towel."
"I’m obviously disappointed," Asomugha said. "I don’t agree with what happened. I don’t agree with what’s going on. But I am just a player so I can’t speak on it. I don’t make the decisions. All I can do is play but I don’t agree with what happened at all."
"There’s been some things that have been going on, some shakeups, that I haven’t agreed with," Asomugha said. "Like I said, I’m not allowed to speak on it because we’re just supposed to shut up and play. But you ask me if I agree with it? I don’t agree with it."
This speaks volumes in the fact that the Raider’s would like to keep Nnmadi. After this I don’t think he will return next season. This is a huge blow to the lockerroom. I’m afraid to see the effort they put forward this sunday.

will not sign. no way in hell man. hes too good a player to be stuck on this team. i love the guy hes been a true raider playing with his whole heart every week. im sure he has aspirations to win too. cutting hall just shows him the raiders wont be winning ne time soon. hopfully we can do like what the redskins did and trade the great corner for a good offensive player a la clinton portis. theres no point in having one shut down corner if there just ognna fart all over stanford routt all game

Franchise Tag
The Raiders can place the franchise tag on Nnandi for 2 more seasons. Nnamdi isn’t going anywhere, at least not for free.
Also from the same article Nnamdi said:
As the team captain, Asomugha said he was informed by Cable of the decision but wasn’t given a reason. He said he told Cable what he thought and intends to seek a meeting with Al Davis. Asomugha also isn’t happy with the Ronald Curry or Michael Huff benchings and how they were handled.
"I haven’t spoken to him yet. I’m sure I’ll be speaking to him soon," Asomugha said. "Just about the nature of what’s going on. I think I’ve been here long enough that we can have that discussion, how this thing can get better."</blockquote
>
When he meets with Al, Al will clear the air and convince him to sign long-term while informing him of the changes that will take place including the hiring of a General Manager.

I'm not that optimistic
that Al can convince Nnamdi to stay. Al’s handling of the team this year has fractured the locker room. The writing is on the wall. We had a good thing going at the beginning of the year to try and build off of but with the firing of Kiffin and the release of Hall this season is over and I don’t see any sensible free agent coming here any time soon. We will have to try and acquire talent thru the draft which we all know hasn’t really worked out for us too well.
