SBN's Mid Season Studs and Duds: I Wonder Where the Raiders Rank?
Clinton Portis is playing like an MVP right now. |
The Studs
NFL Mid-Season MVP: Clinton Portis, Redskins
Comment from David the Falconer at The Falcoholic:
The homer in me wants to say Michael Turner, but he's done the majority of his damage against the league's weakest defenses. Portis has put the Redskins on his back and carried them 100 yards or more down the field most games, and for that he deserves my vote.
Best Player on Offense: Clinton Portis, Redskins
Comment from Skins Patrol at Hogs Haven:
He also has 150 yards receiving and has had his role increase with the injury to Ladell Betts Not everyone knows this, but Portis is the best pass protecting RB blocker in the league and is a big reason why Jason Campbell is playing well this season.
Best Players on Defense: Joey Porter, Dolphins
Comment from BigBlueShoe at Stampede Blue:
I thought this guy was DEAD. How the hell does he have 11.5 sacks and 3 forced fumbles? I mean Jeezus, it is only Week Nine and he has 11.5 friggin' sacks! The hell are they feeding them down there in Miami?
Best Rookie: Chris Johnson, Titans
Comment from cgolden at Revenge of the Birds:
No explanation needed. Just watch this kid play and it's obvious why he's truly special. Were we really questioning his status as a first round pick six months ago?
Best Coach: Jim Zorn, Redskins
Comment from WCG at Windy City Gridiron:
I hate doing this, but in that division the Redskins should have easily been the worst team.
Jaguars coach Jack Del Rio has seen better days. |
The Duds
Mid-Season Worst Player: JaMarcus Russell, Raiders
Comment from Dave the Falconer at The Falcoholic:
Consider that this guy was the first overall pick in the draft. Then consider that he can't throw a pass without collapsing into a heap.
Mid-Season Worst Rookie: Vernon Gholston, Jets
Comment from cgolden at Revenge of the Birds:
He's learning a new position so this probably isn't fair but seven tackles in eight games for a top six pick is simply unacceptable. You'd think he could at least be a situational pass rusher.
Mid-Season Worst Coach: Jack Del Rio, Jaguars
Comment from Chris at Big Cat Country:
Can I vote for Del Rio and the Jaguars for every possible spot?

Mid season worst coach
I guess Cable doesn’t count since he’s only interim?
Win, Lose, or Tie, Raiders til I die!
Del Rio was supposed to have a SB contending team, though. Raiders were supposed to
be where they are. I don’t see the Russell, thing though, he has been hard to get down, I don’t remember many arm tackles taking him down, so I am not sure about the collapsing in a heap comment, especially considering the 1.8 seconds he has in the pocket.

Your 2002 Western Conference Champions the Sacramentoooooooo KINGS!!!
I agree
But when they start scheming us the way these guys did, and we weren't particularly ready for it, anything can happen."

Walker
Is a colossal bust. It probably wasn’t fair to pick on Russell given the condition the team is in, but purely based on results he’s been pretty awful. I still think he’s got talent and I hope you guys will be able to put together a line and receiving corps that can give him a break.
But it's not Walkers fault (sarcasm)
“A receiver is only as good as how fast his quarterback grows into a system,” Walker said. "You gotta grow and that takes time. I’d love to be 21 again in the NFL growing with him. Everybody was in that position he’s in right now at one point…
But Russell is bad. And maybe it’s not entire fair to put his suckness all on him. Even though he stunted his growth by being a selfish asshole and held out for all that money. Sure am glad he’s worth it….
But it seems Cable can’t coach the team and the O-line to give him protection. And apparently our ex-WR-turned-WR-coach isn’t all the good either…
Ryan got in there first day of camp…………and imagine that…he’s good!
Win, Lose, or Tie, Raiders til I die!
russel
had his reasons to hold out. al davis wanted to give him money the second pick got. we all kno rookies r WAY over paid but its how it is these days. not russels fault for holding out.
and javon walker needs to stfu. hes slow now. he has nobody to blame for his bad play but himself. the guys garbage
Your 2002 Western Conference Champions the Sacramentoooooooo KINGS!!!
I'm sorry but WHAT!?
not russels fault for holding out.
Well, please tell me, who made that decision? HE pays HIS agent. HE could tell HIS agent HE wants to be in training camp. Davis is a fool for agreeing to those terms. Should have just signed a veteran. Maybe we’d be in less trouble right now.
There should be a set maximum for drafted players per position. After the initial contract, you should have been able to prove yourself.

Rookie
Really?
No love for Matt Ryan? The Titans had a monster OL last year and went to the playoffs. Atlanta won four games.
