Report Card for Texans Game

Since recaps haven't been happening as frequently, I like to post a report card here and there. Report Card from Inside Bay Area.

PASSING OFFENSE: JaMarcus Russell completed 18 for 25 for 236 yards and 2 TD's and lost a fumble. Luckily the D stopped them. A-

RUNNING OFFENSE: Justin Fargas and Darren McFadden combined for 139 yards. No rushing TD. Grade: A-

PASSING DEFENSE: The Raiders held the league's leading receiver, Andre Johnson, without a catch for three-plus quarters. They also recorded three sacks and delivered numerous big hits. Grade: B

RUNNING DEFENSE: Texans Running backs gained only 67 yards. Grade: A-

SPECIAL TEAMS: Rashad Baker recovered an onside kick in the first quarter that led to a field goal. Johnnie Lee Higgins blew open the game with an 80-yard punt return for a touchdown (That's 3 this year baby!). Grade: A ( I say A- for the bad Lechler punt).

COACHING: Coach Tom Cable mixed up his play-calling and incorporated McFadden into the game plan early. No stupid crazy things. Grade: A

Damn, I thought holding Johnson to just a single catch would’ve earned a higher grade.

I agree with all of the following except

run defense should have been a good A if not at least an A+. We held Steve Slaton, a monster rookie back, better than most teams have all year. True we allowed a rushing TD. But that’s only 1 TD. Run defense definitely deserves an A. A+ because that’s the best the Raiders have looked against the run all year.
