Trade Idea

I recently thought up a great a trade idea for the Raiders that I guarantee would work in our favor. I know all of you will think I'm crazy for saying this, but why not trade Derrick Burgess? Here's why:

Trade Him While He Still Has Value-

Burgess has been injured and missed significant playing time the past two years (including this year). His sack production has suffered as a result. And I don't think you can pin this on him being double-teamed. He just doesn't seem like the same old Burgess like he used to be when he was getting 15 or 11 sacks a year and making the Pro Bowl. We need to trade him now before he suffers another bad season and we can't get anything for him.

As it stands, I bet you could get at least a decent second round pick if not a high second rounder. We need as many picks as we can get this year and try to pull a Falcons-style draft. Do as they did when trading Hall, trade Burgess for a second round pick and maybe another late round pick if you can. This is the best his value's going to be barring an unforeseen monster season out of him.

What Has he Done For Us Lately-

This is the league of "What have you done for me lately" and burgess has only gotten 11.5 sacks in two years. That's the same as what he had in 06. He's not the same burgess and I don't think he ever will be if he continues to be injured. I know he takes blockers off of Edwards, but it's hard to do that when you're injured. Point is, we've won games and gotten significant pressure when he's been out of the lineup. Scott and Edwards have done nicely in his absence and will fill the void if we trade him.

Edwards-Richardson-Scott factor-

13 sacks from Edwards, Scott, and Richardson. Remove Burgess from the lineup, give these guys more time, and we'll have a pass rush equal to, if not better than, when we have Burgess. Scott and Richardson are still young and Edwards is getting better. These guys will develop into a solid unit of DE. Burgess is getting paid too much money to do a job that three less paid DE are doing better than he is.

I'm not trying to hate on Burgess, but we could get a good pick for a OT or WR or whatever else we need and wouldn't lose much with him out of the lineup. Thoughts?

I would agree but the reality is

that he would get us little more than a 5th round pick. Trades don’t work in the NFL because teams would rather have their picks. The D’Angelo Hall thing was a poor calculation by the Raiders. I don’t know if it was Kiffin or Davis but someone made a serious mistake. I am not as optimistic about the guys we have, but I don’t see much upside in Burress anymore. It is an area the Raiders have to improve in, maybe it is in house, but a pass rushing outside guy is needed. More than anything they need a LB, star quality linebacker.

I don't know

teams would give a decent pick for a Pro Bowler who may be only an injury-free season away from a another Pro Bowl year. Reality is that it won’t happen while he’s with Oakland. May as well get something for him other than 4 sacks a year.

I voted yes.

They should test the waters to see what they can get for him in terms of draft picks. Their are some good offensive linemen coming out this year. We need to pick up some OT’s. I feel Edwards was our best pass rusher this year and Scott has the potential to be a good pass rusher.

Too Much Value

Burgess is to valuable to trade. He blew up this recent game against the Texans and I think he will get healthier next year. Yes, I agree with you Kaiz that the young bustaz are looking great, but they are nowhere near Burgess. Here’s why?

Trevor – He can’t push or fight his way in like Burgess or a much better example, Dwight Freeney. From what I saw, he stutter steps his way to the QB.

Richardson – He is kind of good. Strong, mean and full package. However, too young. Needs time to learn. Also, need to be consistent.

Edwards – This guys is really good. But, he can help and hurt you. He is good and bad at snap counts. Sometimes he gets it right, sometimes he just FUCKS UP. But I have to admit it, I like him here. And he likes it here.

But like I said, Burgess is worth more than a second round pick. I think we should keep him for a little longer.

I think that we should trade Nnamdi for a package:

Like the Chiefs got for Jared Allen.

Unless he is willing to sign a long term deal here, he will want out, and if we can trade him to the NFC and pick up a first and 3rd rounder, I’m in!!!

But when they start scheming us the way these guys did, and we weren't particularly ready for it, anything can happen."

Fuck That

Nnamdi stays for life.

they'd only give those up for

a front 7 and a QB. Besides, if they don’t those first round picks, how will they draft their annual receiver?

I actually agree with you a little bit

I think that would be very good for us. We need to start back up from ground zero and stop trying to have an instant success season with overpaid veterans who can’t contribute like we did this year. We need to get in young players to develop in Oakland and become the franchise’s future.

I just think Nnamdi is a little TOO valuable. Like Rayder K said with Burgess, but unlike Burgess, I think Nnamdi IS our pass defense. Without him we have nothing. Burgess meanwhile isn’t as good as he once was and probably will never be that good again if he continues to be injured.

I think that's

a mistake. Things could turn around next year if we hire a GM. So maybe Nnamdi won’t wanna leave.

Does a franchise player have to accept the franchise tag? Or can he still leave?

franchise player

he doenst have to accept it but no body else can sign him. so unless he is prepared to sit out the whole season he wil laccept it.

I think that the 2nd year a guy is franchised

another team can sign him but it costs them 2 first round picks and no team has shown a willingness to do that. I doubt that Nnamdi would sit out the year, that would cost him $10 million and most guys are now willing to lose that kind of money. If it is really about not wanting to play on a losing team then Nnamdi won’t sign in Oakland, I doubt it is a question of money because Al is known as an owner who pays his players, sometimes too much. Oakland has never had a problem with signing guys, Al is not cheap with players salaries.

Could be ineteresting

if Nnamdi tells Davis he’ll sign if things change.

Trever Scott!

Here is a good article on our sixth round pick.

His five sacks are tied for the NFL lead among rookies, matching Titans second-rounder Jason Jones. That puts Scott ahead of No. 2 overall draft pick Chris Long of the Rams, No. 8 Derrick Harvey of the Jaguars, No. 28 Lawrence Jackson of the Seahawks

He puts on more weight this kid is going to be something special.

Wow

I didn’t realize this. Good article. Great pick up.

yeah this was a great draft

if we had more picks (as in trade Burgess for this draft) we could’ve done even more. Maybe DeSean Jackson, maybe Harry Douglas, just throwing a few steals of the draft out there. We got some steals as well. You all say Davis doesn’t draft well, look at the past two drafts (including this one)

Russell: Shows a lot of promise. Needs more talent
McFadden: 1,000 yard rusher if it weren’t for turf toe
Miller: This year’s leading receiver and is one of the best TE in the league
Bush: Needs more carries and needs more short-yardage time.
Richardson: Great run-stopping DE who’s starting to develop a pass rush
Henderson: playing far better than Harris and should be our starting LT. Should start at the right side next year with a 1st. or second rounder at left
Schilens: Russell’s new favorite receiver and deep threat
Scott: Is outsacking first round picks and is tied for first rookie DE in sacks

And that’s without mentioning Shields who seems to have a LOT of promise if he could stay off injured reserve.
