Oakland Raiders News: All Things Silver And Black

While Oakland's more lauded teams, of late, the Warriors and A's deal with their setbacks, the Raiders just keep on marching in an off-season that has given given hope to the loyal members of the Nation.

Here is a quick trip around the field as I look into all things Silver and Black.

From the JaMarcus Russell File:

Raiders | Russell ready to move past rookie season
Fri, 16 May 2008 08:20:23 -0700

Steve Corkran, of the Contra Costa Times, reports Oakland Raiders QB JaMarcus Russell is ready to move past a rather difficult rookie campaign in which he missed all of training camp and the first week of last season because of protracted contract negotiations. "I've been here over the offseason just trying to better myself," Russell said. "I missed a lot of time last year. I'm just here to show my teammates that it was a business thing before and now I'm here with you guys. From this time to last year, 100 percent better. I feel a lot better and am able to move a lot better."

Raiders | Walker sees similarities between Russell and Favre
Fri, 16 May 2008 08:15:51 -0700

Jerry McDonald, of ANG Newspapers, reports Oakland Raiders WR Javon Walker compared playing with QB JaMarcus Russell to his early years alongside former Green Bay Packers QB Brett Favre. "He has a good arm. I've been fortunate enough in my career to play with a quarterback who had a strong arm, and that's something I developed into, catching a fast ball," Walker said. "He's one of those guys that has that ball. The more and more we work together, the better that we're going to be."

From the How Will We Stop The Run File:

Raiders | Morrison as a strongside linebacker?
Fri, 16 May 2008 07:53:28 -0700

Updating a previous item, Jerry McDonald, of ANG Newspapers, reports Oakland Raiders LB Kirk Morrison could move to the strongside linebacker position this season if LB Edgerton Hartwell shows he is capable of playing the middle linebacker position. Morrison's coverage skills match up well with tight ends and running backs over the middle of the field, and he at times last season had difficulty in terms of playing off blocks in the middle.

Chinabob was accurate in his assessment of Kirk Morrison last year. It looks like the Raiders diagnosed this problem and are trying to fix it.

If you want to know where the rest of them worked out:

Thu, 15 May 2008 16:02:14 -0700

Before you start getting upset, Nnamdi was ineligible to participate because he has not yet signed his tender (Okay, start getting upset about that), Burgess NEVER makes it to this party, McFadden can't practice until next week, Curry is recovering from foot surgery, Gallery just got married, and Kelly will not be available until Training Camp...at the earliest (Okay, start getting mad about that too)

On the bright side, it is nice to see Huff FINALLY playing Free Safety.

From the "What took them so long " file, KFFL reports that:

Raiders | Jordan expected to be released next month
Fri, 16 May 2008 09:29:23 -0700

The Associated Press reports Oakland Raiders RB LaMont Jordan is expected to be released next month. Jordan has not been present at the team's organized team activities.

According to Warren Sapp, who's opinion I trust, Jordan was an out of shape, fat and lazy off-season player. I can live without him "Pretending" to care for one more year. See Ya, LaMont and Hello Michael Bush!!!

"We have a standard here of the play that we want to present as a group of running backs, and we're going to hold everybody that suits up and steps out on that field to those standards," Rathman said. "When you're not able to get it done to those standards, we're going to go to the next guy. Somebody's going to perform for us, and it's going to be at a high level."

It's Nice to know that we have standards...heh!!

Great job Saint

It’s nice that we are getting back to Raider talk what with the draft, free agent signings etc. By the way I am China Bob, now that you have moved to SBN, my call sign changed. I think Morrison would be an excellent outside LB because of speed and range. On the other hand, just how good is the new guy at MLB? I like every move they are making this year, but nothing new about Sands and Warren, where else would they play?

Little concerned about Kelly, he has already missed 6 months or more, surely he is ready by now, but guess he is not. I think Huff might be dynamite at FS, great speed, can get to the ball, will see.
Good riddance to Jordan, I’ll take my chances with the remaining guys.

I prefer

Morrison stay at middle linebacker because I don’t recall him ever working at outside before. I’m sure it’s not that big of a transition, but I just think he’s a better middle than outside linebacker
