The Raiders need

a wide out capable of being our number 3/slot receiver. Johnnie Higgins doesn't have enough experience yet and is too important for our return game to see that much playing time on offense. It's the same problem with any of our receivers on the experience factor. Shields, Watkins, and Schilens are all rookies and Curry is our number 2 receiver at the moment. A trade for Anquan Boldin to put Curry in the slot would be great. Or we could sign Jeremy Bloom, because in my opinion he is like a mini Wes Welker as a slot receiver. He's got speed and with some playing time and development he could have great hands too. Joe Horn would be alright because of his experience and sure hands, but isn't fast enough any more to be the type of receiver we need. If it were Walker, Horn, and Curry, we would have no deep threat which is why we drafted Russell. Hopefully it all works out though since we lost Carter.

hadn't thought of Jeremy Bloom

he’s actually a pretty viable option. But why not put in Watkins? He catches everything in sight and has some speed and separation ability. Either way, the Raiders will deal with the problem in a way that probably will stun us. Good write-up I totally agree.

P.S. The day after the last preseason game I will begin my Raiders Breakdown series as promised to detail the final roster.

Watkins

I have been pulling for Watkins since we signed him. Based on his camp he was probably going to make the team, but now with Carter gone he’s a lock. He will do well, but what will really matter is the next cut down day. 22 players will have to be paired from NFL rosters. Expect the Raiders to be active on waiver claims. Wide receiver yes, but I really hope a good blocking fullback.

Hi punnish--good questions...

It’s funny we meet the first week and we seem to have some exact different questions. Last year you guys had a great defense that kept you in games, yet because of your offense (other than a run here and there) were at most times behind.

Last year we had an offense that could put points on the board—yet had a defense that let teams run over us, through us, around us and when they got the ball back……did it again.

I think we’ll sweep your team this year because our defense had made great strides—our offense is going to a force to be reconded with—and your offense is taking baby steps.

I hope not

But you could be right. However, I believe that the Raiders will win on September 8th. I think that the Broncos will be very surprised by the pass rush that they are going to get and the secondary they are going to face. Cutler: 5 sacks – 3 picks.

C'mon mike

Do you seriously think that the Broncos are going to have a walk in the park?

No----actually when I posted a prediction of our season this year I had both games with you

the two slimmest victory margins we have during the year.

If you look at it

it’s your strength against our strength. You have a good passing game but we have a good pass defense. We have a great running game that only got better with the addition of Mcfadden and you hope you are better at run d. This is why it is hard for me to see you sweeping us this year.

Raider76---If you would spend a little more time at MHR.....

You would know that I live in the la-la-land-of-pre-season-feel-goods. I can’t help but know we’ll sweep your team this year. I suppose reality could toss me out of la-la-land on my head—but it can’t do it yet. I quess we’ll see.

I have noticed that

the times I have been there. Preseason is always feel good time until the regular season starts.

At some time this season we will see the facts of this season--I think it will be fun...

We are both improved—I just hope someone puts Davis on a life-support machine—forever.

Sorry about that remark, “Just Win Baby” is a something special remark that only your team has claim to.

Would have been interesting if moss was still here. Russell and Moss might have fed off each other. I doubt Moss would have laid down with this kid around!!!

raider need

with all the talk about getting a good veteran receiver, why don’t we take a look at joe horn? i mean he’s got fire and attitude, seems like a good fit for a raider.

With Carter injured

I made Watkins my number 3 receiver because he has the best hands out of the rest of them. KAIZER, we’ve never really seen Bloom play receiver yet because he is always injured. When he is healthy he has typically only been a return man. If given a chance he would be a great slot receiver and an even better deep threat.

Now for you Mike :) I hardly call signing 2 new starting offensive linemen, signing the best available wide receiver in free agency, extending Fargas’ contract, drafting Jamarcus Russell, Zach Miller, and Michael Bush in last seasons draft, and now drafting Darren McFadden as taking baby steps. It’s all going to come together this year as we will own the AFC west once again.

And I don’t believe we need Joe Horn because Walker and Curry are veterans with decent but not great speed. We don’t need another possession type receiver when we got Russell at the helm who can throw the ball 80 yards accurately. It really is a shame that Carter got hurt because I thought this was going to be his break out year…

I have to agree with you on Bloom.

I see Bloom as another Tim Dwight. If anything he would be used mostly for his return game because I haven’t seen much of him at reciever.
