Post Game Wrap:

I'm still seething...SEETHING!!!

I'll write something up when I have the strength, but, right now I just witnessed a VERY impressive defensive performance be undermined by a terrible offensive game plan and even worse execution. There is no way that this team should have lost after being up by two scores with 5 minutes left.

I

blame the defense totally on this loss. We stopped blitzing in the 4th quarter and they passed all over our 2ndary. Infact, I don’t think our offense was too bad considering McFadden’s injury. Did you not see the 84 yard TD pass? Or the 2 yard TD rush by Russell? Looking @ the drive chart we had some good yardage. Russell completed the most amount of passes all season. We had that game in the bag until the defense powers that be backed off on the pressure. See this article. I quote:

Far from it, as it turned out. The Raiders defense backed off on the blitzes that frustrated and hurried Edwards and relied upon a scheme that forced the Bills into time-consuming drives.

No problem. Edwards completed only 10 of 21 passes for 96 yards before the final play of the third quarter. From that point on, he completed 14 of 18 for 183 yards and his only touchdown. (emphasis mine)

I’m wondering if it wasn’t planned some how….

What about

the 3 times deep in the red zone only to come out with 9 points? The play calling was good to get to the red zone, but it was terrible once inside it.. Why not in the red zone use McFadden at QB and let the offense have some options and confuse the defense a little? It was very conservative and that’s why we only got 3’s.

Point taken

but this still didn’t fall on our offense. We can work on our red zone offense if we keep a consistent system going. We managed 2 yard rush for a TD from Russell in the red zone. We can’t go through coaches every year. And after today’s 4th quarter implosion, I feel I don’t Ryan as our coach. And Lofton surely isn’t doing very good w/ the WR’s. Kiffin’s getting Russell going. The Bye week would be perfect to get him up to speed. So let’s keep him around. We should be hitting hard on D all the time. The Offense is coming along, slowly I admit, but it’s getting there. And the players like Kiffin and like playing for him.

I am not

advocating firing Kiffin. What I am saying is that if it is going to happen, which it is, then let’s just get it over with already and move on on. The offense is not really Kiffin’s anyway, it’s Knapp’s and whomever takes over, Knapp, Lofton, Rathman or Cable will be able to maintain playbook consistency. Kiffin might be a good coordinator and be able to put together a game plan, but he is terrible at in-game management (due to lack of NFL experience) and that has been evident in many games, not just Buffalo.

As far as the players liking Kiffin and playing for him. What are they supposed to say while he is still there? They aren’t going to bad mouth him in public while he is still the HC. The players will play for the next HC also, that’s what they signed a contract to do, play. Anyway, it doesn’t really matter what we think now because there will be a new Head Coach Tuesday morning.

Why wouldn't

they go public when they don’t like the coach? They did against Calahan and Shell.

Ryan is the one that should get fired

How many games in the past 5 years have the Raiders had the lead only to have Ryan call off the dogs and go to his favorite “soft zone”. I grant anybody that Kiffin was a little too conservative late in the game, but without Fargas and McFadden being injured it was a problem for him. No doubt Kiffin will get fired today which is fine, but don’t expect miracles from the next head coach, they still have Ryan who is a loser.
