Is the Fader nation the most over-rated fan base?

Let's face the facts, as much as everyone trys to make a big deal out of the costume party that is held at the Oakland-Alameda Stadium on Sundays, I think the "Raider Nation" is an over-hyped fan base.  And here are my reasons why:

Sellouts: Oakland-Alameda Stadium is the smallest stadium in the NFL, I think the capacity is somewhere around 50,000.  Yet the Raiders can't sell it out, when I bring this up the typical excuses I get from Raider fan is there are so many other things to do, and I say like what. I lived in Northern California for many years and spent a fair amount of time in Oakland playing football and other sports, and let me tell you, there is nothing to do there with the exception of eating at some overpriced restaurants and looking at a stagnet body of water known as the Bay.  Regardless, if the Raiders were committed they would be selling out that band box and not sitting at home.

General knowledge: Talk to a average Raider fan at a bar and very few of them have any clue as to football stats, players, or history of their team (Other than they won three super bowls), to me the bigger thing with average Raider fan is the look.  They want to look tough by wearing black.  So to me, Raider fans are more about image than anything else.

Like to fight: Having been to a couple of Bronco Raider games in Oakland, seems to me most Raider fans are there to try to act tough and get in fights, with either opposing fans like myself or with each other.  Which really doesn't make you tough, just a jerk off that has some issues with your self opinion, and what cracks me up is most Raider fans won't even fight you straight up, they want twenty of their buddies to cheap shot you before they will get in the mix.

Anyways, here is a poll of the most overrated fan base:

The Raider had the Most Expensive tickets in football:

That is one reason why it was difficult to sell out until they eliminated the PSL BS.

Al also blew it by leaving, just as the Nineres were getting hot, so every new football fan in the bay became a Niner fan.

After they moved back they had to start all over, and I am glad that they did, because ever since the “typical” SoCal fans stopped driving up as much, the Coliseum has been filled with die hard football/Raider fans.

Selling out or not has NOTHING to do with us kicking you in the nuts on Monday night and then watching the Rat hide behind his TD gift of two SB trophies.

Excuses, excuses

With a population greater than Colorado in the Bay area, you still can’t find 50,000 people to attend a game and buy tickets. People drive from other states like Wyoming, Utah, New Mexico, Kansas, and South Dakota every weekend to see the Broncos.

And you are right, the fact if you can sell-out a game has nothing to do with the beat down you shall watch as Denver rolls all over Oakland on MNF. I just find it ironic that most of Oakland won’t be able to watch the game because they can’t sell it out.

What the heck does that have to do with anything?

I'd rather have one good team in Colorado than two crap teams in the Bay area.

Then what's the good team in Colorado?

All I see is a mile high team with a mediocre history with a few flashes of brilliance.

everybody can see it. It’s a national thing.

I might have said the Raiders, but then you had to put the Chargers up on the list...

I am from San Diego and I know for a fact those fans suck. Fairweather doesn’t even begin to describe them. Raider fans are pretty darn loyal.

In a way, the AFC West is great because the fans of 3 of the 4 teams are completely and totally rabid. The Charger fans are only interested if the team is winning…rather sad if you ask me.

It can't be SD...

We’re talking most “over-rated” not all around crappiest. It is impossible to be thought of less than SD fans are. In fact, I’m not even sure that they really exist. Therefore, there is no possible way that SD fans are the most “over-rated”. It’s definitely between the ‘Boys and the faders. Too many fans hopping on the wagon for one reason or another. For the faders it’s cause they’re trying to rebel from overprotective mothers and want to show the world how tough they are…for cowgirls…uhhmmm…well…okay, I have no idea why someone who isn’t from dallas would be a cowgirls fan.

And Bronco fans

need a hug. It’s because of all the years of teasing and name calling when your team was losing. It’s like in that movie Friday when Debo gets knocked out and the guy who got his chain stolen takes it back and punches Debo when he is on the ground. Now thats a Bronco fan. We are down but not for long.

I'll admit it...

you and saint are good fans. Where’s the rest of you?

Broncos are coming off a losing season too…but no one is going anywhere!

to settle this whole issue

The Raiders have been the worst team for the past 5 years, I’m not denying it or making any excuses. But the Raiders are still just as die-hard as ever.

not totally...I know many Raider fans are disheartened enough to follow the team much less...

that can be seen by the fact that ticket sales are low. Now this doesn’t mean your fan base is overrated, because I recall when the chargers were 1-15 the stadium was a sea of orange when the Broncos came to town. That is not the case in Oakland, so I am not in support of calling the raider fan base overrated. The Broncos have not had a 2 year streak of losing records since the Nixon administration, so it might be hard to gauge how loyal us Bronco fans are. Although, we can point to the fact the every game has been sold out since long before the Nixon administration so that helps prove our fan base is not overrated at all and may even be underrated. My point is, the Raider fan base is Head and Shoulders above that of the Charger fan base. lol But I still think the Bronco fan base is far more loyal than the Raider one…ticket sales prove that.

ticket sales

dude, a true raider fan watches them, reads about them, lives, breathes, and sleeps Raiders. I personally have never attended a Raiders game because of the expense of tickets and the fact that going from West Virginia to Oakland is very expensive. Yet I’m still a die-hard Raider fan. In fact I’m probably the biggest Raider fan in WV. Fanship is based on loyalty and devotion, not money. And after the previously mentioned 5 year span, we’re still just as die hard as ever. But with raising ticket and travel prices, it’s much harder to go to games. Most Raider fans live outside of Oakland and can’t afford tickets or travel.

Ticket Prices?

I just went to the Oakland website and I can purchase lower level tickets for $106 dollars, that is as cheap if not cheaper than what you would pay for the same Bronco tickets. I understand that being in WV you aren’t going to fly to Oakland, but the excuse of ticket prices is lame. Granted Oakland may be a “poor” community, but that area is a stone throw to Silcon valley, Concord and the North Bay Area and SF, so you can’t tell me there aren’t enough people with money that can go see the game and support the team.

The Tickets are half the price that they were 2 years ago:

By eliminating the PSL charges from every ticket, it is now VERY affordable to attend the game.

Sorry, I thought PSL was still in place

but then again I never check because I’m not traveling all the way there unless we’re on the verge of going to the Super bowl, which won’t be this year. Once Russell develops and Tomlinson turns 30 then maybe I will.

The fact that San Diego was included in the list tells me it deserves a vote.

If it wasn’t that overrated then it wouldn’t be on the poll!!!!!!!!!!

Yup. You can wear your jersey, just respect the fans. If ya’ll start winning you best keep your mouth shut. Not a threat, but a promise. A drunken asshole will take flight for little to no reason other than frustration. Thing I hate most about the raiders games are that the fans get belligerent, and if you aren’t a raiders fan and you’re sporting another teams garb, it’s basically like painting a bullseye on your back.

It’s supposed to be all in good fun, but we have a certain brand of fan here. The gangsta thug fan. It’s not all of us but it’s a good enough amount for you to be careful. I’ve seen too many guys get jacked up for being cocky and disrespectful.

by Amoc on Sep 4, 2008 12:43 AM PDT to parent up   0 recs

I was

at a game last year against SD… some guy got jacked up in the upper deck, and he got his jersey thrown down to field level…. I hate the fact that sometimes even Raider fans will get jacked up for no good reason at all except they gave a guy a dirty look…. I saw a 40-something year old guy get spit on by a 12 year old wanna-be thug, and it pissed me off like hell! disrespect is not part of the game- what is part of the game is the competitive spirit and having a good time at the game…

I will be sporting my Bronco gear while tailgating....once its times to enter the stadium

that stuff will be stowed away in my trunk and I will be wearing regular clothes. I want to have a good time, win or lose, so I figure I’ll try to avoid the a-holes best I can. If some idiots try to jack me up in the parking lot they will not like the result…my little bro is in the police academy and will likely be armed during the tailgating. lol Raider fan or not, blood is thicker than any other loyalty. I’m not an a-hole though…so I don’t expect any problems.

Because I have a friend who just got into the Police Academy of Alameda. If you respect the fans, most likely be treated with respect, at least by Raider Fans who know how to handle themselves
