This from the Chronicle:
Lofton fired, others moving on
The Raiders fired wide receivers coach James Lofton on Tuesday, two team sources told The Chronicle, as they continue to overhaul most, if not all, its coaching staff.
Lofton spent one season with the Raiders and was the only assistant coach still under contract next season. While he was dismissed, the Raiders also informed quarterbacks coach John DeFilippo he would not be retained.
All the remaining coaches saw their contracts expire Tuesday, including interim head coach Tom Cable, who remains a leading candidate for the fulltime position.
Also, special teams coordinator Brian Schneider has accepted a job at the same position at USC, leaving the Raiders after two seasons. That leaves the Raiders with no coordinators after Greg Knapp (offensive) left for Seattle and Rob Ryan (defensive) left for Cleveland.
Too bad though we lost Schneider.
In other news, the Broncos gave the Raiders permission to interview Jeremy Bates, who was the Broncos quarterback coach, for a position on the Oakland coaching staff. Bates called the offensive plays for the Broncos in 2008.
