Around SBN: Chan Sung Jung Wins Thriller Over Dustin Poirier

I don't mean to be brash...

We just had the best two weeks I can remember in the last six years. We won two games against .500 teams. And we did it with our YOUTH. THE PLAYERS WE'VE BEEN WAITING FOR.

What do I get?

NO POST GAME RECAP?

That's friggin' ridiculous. How are we going to build this community any deeper than the 10-15 if you guys aren't thorough. The second you get something easy to write about (winning) you just neglect to do it.

Saint, STEP IT UP. A week late is better than none at all!

Uh Amoc,

why can’t you do it? You complain about it not being there, anyone can post here, why don’t you write one up? The last time there wasn’t one, I wasn’t able to see the game so I couldn’t do a proper one but I at least did my part and posted a report card.

because he won't type a recap he's ot a Raiders fan?

explain that one to me.

Anyway, I’ll do it. I’d be delighted to. I’ll do a Raiders recap in a heartbeat. Anything to do in the offseason is fine with me. The Spurs and Sharks don’t fill the void of football.

I'll do a typical "Silver and Black Pride" Raiders recap:

QB: A+
RB: A+
OL: A+
DL: A+
LB: A+
DB:A+
Special Teams: A+
Coaching: A+
Big Al: A+

Outlook for 2010: Undeafeated!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! BAH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I think he meant:

Probably should have been a comma after the word optimism.

I kinda think

it died midseason because of how the season was going. But it’s 2009, let this be the year of the Raiders.

e-mails to the boss

have gone unanswered.

I would have been happy to do a recap but I was out of town that weekend.

Unfortunately I think too much time has passed; if anything maybe a Year in Review is in order. Look, I’m the new guy here, but my passion runs deep. There seems to be a strong corp of regulars that know a thing or twelve about the game, and the team.

What seems to work at Athletics Nation (where I have been asked to do front-page writing for…speaking of which, I no longer have those privileges here, which I am sure saint has his reasons)…anyway, what seems to work is the diversity supplied by the front-page staff, and to be honest, an actual policing of the site. Some of the stuff I have read here just this past week alone would have earned certain people “warnings” or even “strikes”. It works because by policing the site, the site earns itself credibility.

If outsiders are to come on here and read stuff like “You’re an effing moron”, well, they aren’t likely to stay folks, even if the person saying it knows everything there is to know about football. Being an expert doesn’t give you a free pass to be rude or obnoxious.

This doesn’t mean that we should go the Rodney King route and everyone should just “get along”; no the other beauty of Athletics Nation is that there is real-live debate about, well, anything. But it’s done (mostly) in a respectful manner.

People come on here and see this stuff, and their first thought is, “Hmm, Raider fans. How typical.”

Mikesd1981 is right; anyone can write a post. And in most cases, saint will move it to the front page if it makes sense to (and a game recap is a guarantee).

Lastly, it helps this site’s cause if the Raiders would win more than five games a season. That’s just reality, guys. Athletics Nation coincided with a playoff run, which has allowed it to continue to succeed during these down years.

So until saint appears, if anyone is interested in posting, just post. And I’ll see about getting it moved to the front page for the sake of having fresher material.

P.S. Amoc, you are right on target. You had a valid point, you made it, and you weren’t a complete ass about expressing it.

As busy as I may be at the other site, I want this site to follow in its footsteps. And maybe, just maybe, we can change the people’s perception of Raider Nation.

I believe

that Saint just got Married right? And has a new born or at least a youngen’ so I understand he’s been busy. I admit I can be a jerk sometimes, but Marquez is right:

We have to keep it classy. And intelligent. That’s not to say that people won’t say something dumb from time to time, we are after all human. But we can correct them rather than pounce on them. (I know to those of you I’ve butted heads with, that sounds hypocritical, but you really gotta push me to make me go off).

I completely forgot that he recently got married.

You’re right; he mentioned a bachelor party before the last home game.

Hey, this is a new thing for me, too. I almost miss the old days where we can say a player sucks and not have to provide mathematical evidence of that player’s sucktitude. (Almost). And there are times that, in my opinion, Athetics Nation can become a little too stat-heavy. I think there should be some balance.

Now when it comes to our AFC West rivals, all bets are off. They suck. And it’s as simple as that (ha).

Mike hit it on the head. It should be both classy and intelligent. But it’s ok to add some humor, too. I love that about AN. There are some crazy people over there (I assume they are people; I’ve never actually met any of them). What I’d like is to give this site an identity. And it doesn’t have to be just one thing. Our identity can be our diversity. We are all Raider fans here. But we are more than that. There are some downright knowledgeable- and creative- people here, and this site- just as a team would- should build around its stars. And then people would come.

One thing I enjoy- that AN doesn’t have- is the Q&A sessions with people from other sites (depending on who we play that week). That’s some cool stuff.

I'm here to talk about the past.

Raiders vs the world

We don’t need to be polite to any whiners. This is the most hated and controversial team in sports history. That puts us fans in the same category. The Raiders have always been known as misfits and I like it that way. It just makes me have even more passion to be a fan of such a great organization with all the history and what has been accomplished. So, if someone comes over here and doesn’t like how we do things…..then they should seriously consider going somewhere else to cry before stepping up to the Raider nation.

Roger that.

I’ll step it up, but I’m not an objective writer. I write my opinion, period. I don’t look at the stats, and use it to justify bad play. I insult players who don’t play to the standard I know they’re capable of. It was just disheartening to end the season on such a good note, and see nothing around here.

by Amoc on Jan 3, 2009 10:53 PM PST reply actions

Bring It!!! I remember all of the stat fights I used to get into on AN

With stat heads who’d never played the game and had NO clue whatsoever about the game withing the game. I always tried to see the game for what it was and then look at some stats as proofs and measures.

But when they start scheming us the way these guys did, and we weren't particularly ready for it, anything can happen."
