Oakland Raiders News: Linehan Gives The Niners The Boot, Then Wants To See If The Silver and Blue Shoe Fits
UPDATE: It appears that he will instead be running the Detroit Lion offense. It makes sense and it appears that they will definitely be drafting a QB. Than again, that second bit of news shouldn't be a surprise, even Mel Kiper knew that.
WOW, is all that I can say. After losing Tom Rathman to the Niners, I was beginning to think that coaches may see the Niners as a more attractive fit than the Raiders.
For those of you who didn't know, according to Niners Nation Linehan turned down the Niners offer to take over the offense and may want to join his College Teammate Tom Cable in Oakland.
Part of me wonders if this is similar to Al's decision to pass on Sarkisian for the man Sark wouldn't shut up about. Lane Kiffin. This seems too similar, seeing that Saunders just interviewed and then Linehan just showed up.
Hmmm?
So, this is of course nothing until John Herrera confirms it, BUT, what about Linehan?

Herrera confirms
From the ContraCosta Times:
"There’s a strong possibility that we’re giong to have him in for an interview soon _ like within the next few days," team spokesman John Herrera said.
I like Linehan as an OC. Terrible as a head coach, but as an OC with his down field, spread-the-ball around style will fit perfectly with the weapons the Raiders are developing on offense.

Sounds like Cable gave him a call
or he already wanted this prior to telling the 49er’s “no”. I read that he soured on the 49ers because of the QB situation, that would probably not be the case with the Raiders with Russell in place. I am more interested in the candidates for the defensive coordinators spot. I haven’t read anything about that other than McGiness of the Titans who was the LB coach there. It looked like Martindale for awhile but that ended soon enough.

I think that the candidates may still be playing:
But when they start scheming us the way these guys did, and we weren't particularly ready for it, anything can happen."

Scary (and not surprising) that even the Raiders team spokesman has no idea what's going on.
Ladies and gentlemen, your Oaktown Raiders!!!

I don't think
he has a plan any more. He dragged his feet here and look what happened. Look how many positions are open in the NFL right now. If he’s too sick to make interviews happen, then we need a GM. We need to get these guys in the building RIGHT NOW, interview them, and make decisions, or we’re gonna be no better than last year. It’s a disgrace to the Raiders to do what he’s doing. Settling for 3rd or 4th best is not good enough.

But the great thing about Al and the Raiders, is that they'll spin it in such a way that whomever
they hire for whatever vacancies was their first choice anyways.
The Raiders crack me up just like Baghdad Bob used to.

Trestman
A league “source” now speculates that former Raiders offensive coordinator Marc Trestman will interview with the Raiders for the same position.
Raiders senior executive John Herrera said they will “probably” interview one more offensive coordinator candidate — and don’t be surprised if that person is Marc Trestman, a league source said.
Trestman was the Raiders’ offensive coordinator for the 2002 Super Bowl run as the offense 389.8 total yards and 279.7 passing yards per game. He is head coach of the CFL’s Montreal Alouettes, winning coach of the year honors after leading them to the Grey Cup championship game last season.
Trestman has been a quarterbacks coach throughout his career. He was previously an offensive coordinator with the 49ers and Browns.
So, if this is true, then it appears that it will be between Al Saunders and Marc Trestman to become the Raiders new offensive coordinator under head coach Tom Cable.
