Raiders top 5 necessites
Mercury News reports the top 5 things the Raiders need to do get back on track.
1) Decide on Asomugha, Lechler. ( I think we should sign both)
2) Find a big-play WR (ahem Ocho-Cinco (just my opinion) and sent Walker hiking)
3) Bolster the O-line (Release Kwame)
4) Assembled an intelligent coaching staff (From HC down. And no, not Lofton)
5) Improve the Defense (New DC and let's work on making game changing plays)
Click on the link to read their breakdown of the 5 things above. Pretty much what we've all been saying.

Good post
Like I said, Lofton isn’t who I want as the head coach :p Even though he would be fine
And we definently should re-sign Asomugha to a 7YR/$70million contract since he EARNED IT.(DeAngelo Hall didn’t earn crap) Lechler deserves a big contract too after being one of our few pro bowlers recently.(only others in the past 6 years are Burgess and Asomugha)
I like that idea about Chad Johnson. But, I would be happy with getting Plaxico Burress, Wes Welker, or Chris Henry. To get it all started though, like you said, we need to cut Harris and Walker.

My only problem
with Plaxico Burress, while Johnson is surely no angel, is the legal issues over his head right now.

Top 5 Needs in This Order
1.) Bring in a general manager if you’re really going to bring one in.
2.) Decide on a head coach sooner rather than later.
3.) Think about your coordinators, both offensively and defensively. Will Knapp leave to go to Seattle to join Mora and is Ryan really the right guy for this defense?
4.) Talk about what you’re going to do with Asomugha and Lechler and come to a decision.
5.) Be smart with the seventh overall selection.

Davis said he wants to make the decision quick. All things, I read, point to Marchish.

The front office
should definently be dealt with. I think it was made obvious about Knapp when he was relieved of his play calling duties. Hopefully he will not be returning to Oakland. Rob Ryan doesn’t blitz enough (especially when we have the lead) so I don’t think he should return either.
The 7th overall pick should be the best available OT, Crabtree, or………Malcolm Jenkins. You may think that’s crazy but we need someone to play along the side of Asomugha so we can have a top 5 ranked pass defense again. The fastest player in the draft just doesn’t cut it any more. (Fabian Washington) I also wouldn’t mind seeing James Laurinaitis at SLB. And yes I am an Ohio State fan :D

I concur.
I never understood why Ryan, coming from a blitz friendly family, blitzed so little.

yeah
Chris Johnson, who was once a dime corner, managed to cover Royal better than a former Pro Bowler.

Chris Johnson
is really good. But we don’t seem to have as good of luck when getting the fastest player. The Titans O-line is amazing to make a guy like Kerry Collins look good which is why Johsnon has been so good. Lendale White also has been a key factor in the TItans success. I’m hoping for an OT but would be happy with any defensive player.

OH! :D
Chris Johnson for us is decent but he isn’t a shut down corner. If we continue to run 99% man coverage (which I know we will) then we need to get someone who can play just as good as Nnamdi if we want to be successful. DeAngelo Hall proved that our defense sucks if we only have one good cornerback. I think Mike Huff should be tried out at cornerback since he isn’t cutting it at safety. Either way we definently need some help in the seconday. I like Stanford Routt as the third corner still even though we used a 2nd round draft pick on him. :(

Draft
We need to take either Michael Oher, the left tackle from Mississippi, or Michael Crabtree, the best wide receiver in college football out of Texas Tech. Either pick helps Russell and simply the offense as a whole.

I agree:
IF they are both gone, then I’d say go with Laurenitus or Rey-Rey out of USC. But as we all know, this will ALL change weekly as the draft approaches.
But when they start scheming us the way these guys did, and we weren't particularly ready for it, anything can happen."

Why waste
your 1 pick on a good player in a great offence. Remember your drafting Michael Crabtree NOT Mike Leach

Ok Look
Crabtree is no where near what a good receiver in the NFL should be. He has a lot to learn. Also, I don’t believe he has more potential than another superstar, Calvin Johnson. Crabtree has a good QB throwing to him, but who did Calvin have? No one important. So you can see. I don’t think Crab is a supastar

its not outta the question
who woulda thought the dolphins, ravens or atl woudl do it this year. we have talent and our qb has experience now. i think with the right use of our RB’s and more aggressive and creative defense we could win this weak division we are in.

still for Ocho Cinco eh Mike?
I don’t want him or Plax in Oakland. We don’t negativity in the locker room. Plus putting Ocho in the locker room would make one of my fears come true. Higgins becomes the next Ocho. He’s already a dancing hotshot, we don’t need the original dancing hotshot in the locker room. I think we should just go for the WR in the draft (Crabtree, Harvin, or Macklin) The defense still needs a hard-hitting MLB and a competent free safety to play beside the very good Wilson.
I’d also like to raise the point where people say we don’t pressure the QB and how we need to draft a D-Lineman for it. That’s a wasted pick, no matter when that pick comes up. The reason we can’t consistently get pressure or get in the backfield is because WE NEVER BLITZ! Ryan did for one game against the chiefs where we dominated on pass and run d. After that, a LB never got a sack and very rarely got into the backfield. Look at the first Chiefs game compared to the last one. We had, I believe, 3 or 4 sacks in the first game and only 1 in the next one. LJ only had 60 yards against us in Week 2, then he was a 100 yard rusher the next time around. That’s what we get when we don’t blitz.
To conclude we don’t need Ocho Cinco or Plax, and we don’t a DE or DT as much as you think. We just need to blitz or get a new DC (which I’m more in favor of)

Needs
Yes, we do need to blitz more, but it is not just scheme. First, we need to stop the run and tackle better and for that we need better talent at the linebacker position along with better use for the existing talent. We really need a true middle linebacker to anchor the defense which will then allow Morrison to slide over to the SAM spot where he belongs. By doing that, Howard’s blitzing skills will be better utilized and the defense will be less predictable.
As far as wide receiver. I agree no to Ocho Cinco but yes to T.J. Houshmandzadeh, who will be a FA this year and would fill out the Raiders WR class nicely. Crabtree might just be a talent that you cannot pass on, but he probably is gone by #7. Unless we have a major impact FA acquisition at tackle this year, It seems the #7 will go to a left tackle, especially if Cable remains the HC.

if we get TJ
then I’d throw Crabtree out of draft talk all together. But how much you wanna bet the Bengals resign him?
Plus I was just addressing the point people always bring up of how we don’t get pressure and therefore need to draft a DE. I’m just saying that if we blitzed we’d get more pressure. I 100% agree on getting a good MLB and moving Morrison over.
