WE ARE THE WORST TEAM IN THE NFL PERIOD
There is no way we do not end up with the first pick in the draft. And that is no guarentee that we will get any help for this team because we have not gotten any production out of our last three first round picks and you can not miss in the first round that often and still compete. We need alot of changes from our QB to our O line to our defensive sheme ... we are not gonna be a good team for along time not for many mnay years so i dont know what to say anymore we're just an embarrassment

I believe until we can really get our passing game going we’ll not be effective on that side of the ball. Without a passing game, the raiders are one dimensional. To make the run effective with backs like Bush and McFadden. As a Gator fan, I knew Louis Murphy was a very talented receiver. He was a steal when we took him in the draft. If we could use McFadden, Miller, Murphy, and get Heyward-Bey involved and get a more smart game from Russell then the run should be able to move the ball with defenses spreading to cover the pass more.

CRUNCHED BY NY
This was sickening to watch. Russell is to quote Carl Banks “fundamentally inept”. The guy is a big-time loss. Talk about highway robbery… a 30 Million-dollar heist.
Time for Gradkowski. Big deal… the season is in the toilet again. Anyone see Eldridge Dickey in the locker room?

Watch the Raiders win just enough (Like 2) so they end up with the 3rd overall draft choice

You realize that it would be a pretty big reach to take Tebow top 2 right? If Raiders missed out on him and got McCoy I’d be stoked.

No way will Davis go after another QB with the first pick. Russell was the first since Tood Marinivich and look what came of that kid. I think he recently got locked up again!
I’d like Teebow because he is tough and can get out of his own way. Russell is not tough and if it weren’t for all that weight he carries he would have been hurt a long time ago. Hell he just goes down without a fight anyway. A guy that big should be tough to take down, Russell trips over his own feet.
I’m not sure what we’ll look like as far as the cap goes next season but I don’t think we need to use that early first round pick. We know we have a chance at having the number 1, and at worse it will be a top 5 pick. We should trade down.
I like to see us trade that pick to the Giants for David Carr and the Giants late first round pick. The Giants will want it because they need a young number WR. Eli is tough and Carr wants to start. Carr looked good yesterday and saw what it feels like to play with a good team and o-line.

David Carr? Mittens?
Sure he looked good with the Giants. So would I. Go back and look at his Texans stats. That’s more like what it would look like here. Carr is officially a bust.
by rightnasty on Oct 12, 2009 12:35 PM PDT up reply actions 0 recs
What are you talking about man? Carr was behind the worse offensive line in the league 5 years running with Houston. He also didn’t have a running game. The only good thing Carr had in Houston was Johnson and together they put up some decent numbers. Carr just needed to mature and he has done that. Hence why he wasn’t any less kind than Manning to our defense yesterday. Oh, and the Giants had pulled their starters by at the half. Those weren’t starters that Carr played behind the entire game.
Russel has been ruined. If he was smart he would request a trade. He won’t because he knows that no one would pay him what Davis will. He needs a fresh start and needs to sit behind a veteran for 2-3 years and absorb the game. I know it isn’t all Russel and I think he has all the physical tools to play but he isn’t anywhere close mentally.
by Faiders420 on Oct 12, 2009 2:24 PM PDT up reply actions 0 recs
I'll tell you what
Go over to the Texans forum and ask them about Carr. Don’t take my word for it. And while you’re at it, compare Schaub’s stats to Carr’s. Same team.
Russell would look a lot better playing with the Giants too. So would Derek Anderson. So would Rex Grossman. So would…

Be careful what you wish for:
Gradkowski’s last 2 starts in the NFL
Dec. 28, 2008 @ PIT
5 for 16, 18 yards, 2 INT
Dec. 21, 2008 @ CIN
2 for 5, 8 yards, 1 INT
Even Russell is better than that.

The bottom of the barrel
The Raiders will have some competiton for the worst team in the league this year as there are a lot of really bad teams.
The Buccaneers,Rams,Chiefs,Bills, and Browns are terrible. The Panthers,Dolphins,Texans,Redskins,Lions, and Titans aren’t looking very good either but it isn’t hard to imagine the Raiders ending up with the worst record in football.
Next weeks game against the Eagles is going to be a disaster and outside of the playing the Chiefs at home it’s hard to see many more wins on the schedule.
I’d love to say all this awful football would lead to real change but it’s hard to see much changing as long as Al won’t bring in some real football people to help him.
I always though that Joe Bugel was the worst head coach in the last 25 years for the Raiders but Tom Cable is closing in on joining Bugel for that spot as Cable seems totally overmatched in every way.
by sirbed on Oct 11, 2009 4:56 PM PDT reply actions 0 recs
Is it Cable?
Or is it the constraints of his environment? Al determines the offensive and defensive structures. Who drafts – Cable or Al? Zero offensive lineman taken in the last draft. Fast receiver with questionable hands taken with the 1st pick. Perfect! This disaster starts and ends with Al. He has done more for this team (and possibly for the NFL) than anyone else but he launched the Titanic and now is taking it down with him.

It's Cable
He doesn’t have the experience or the know-how to manage a young team with a lot of problems. It takes somebody who really knows his stuff to make sense out of a situation like this.
by rightnasty on Oct 12, 2009 10:37 AM PDT up reply actions 0 recs
It’s Cable and Davis. Davis calls the shots prior to the games but Cable doesn’t have the experience or coaching sense to make the needed changes during the games.
We need Cable fired, Davis needs to relinquish control or should I say his strangle hold on the team.
Davis should go after Dungy or Cowher in the off season. Give them a ridiculous contract like he does with worthless draft picks and give them full control of staff, players, and game plans. He needs to sit back, shut up, change his depends, and watch the show.
Dungy would do great in this system and might even bring a player like Vick into the fold. We no plenty of veteran players would love to go were Dungy goes if he is given control.
Cowher is on the same level as Dungy. I think Cowher would be a better fit because he is vocal and provides a strong structure that the Raiders need and have been lacking since Gruden.
I’d like gruden to come back, but we know that won’t happen. Funny though, I remember Davis and the players bitching about Gruden when he coached the Raiders saying he was to strict and to tough on his players. They were winners then. Gruden leaves and what happens. He blew us out in the super bowl with a second rate journeyman QB and the rest is embarrassing history.
Davis has and continues to look like a prideful fool since that super bowl loss. He is hell bent on being right and all he is doing is running the team into the ground and alienating the fans.
Fans like winning, Russell, McFadden, and DHB are not the starters that give us the best chance at winning right now.

Are the coaches
allowed to make real changes to offensive or defensive philosphy? If you think that, why is it no “A” type coach (see Cowher etc) would ever consider coming to our beloved Raiders? No changes allowed, Al’s rules.

And that's the problem in a nutshell
Any number of coaches could come in and turn this franchise around in a year or two: Cowher, Bilick, Dungy all come to mind.
But they are all too smart to put one foot into this madhouse without total control . Which they’ll never get. And so we’re screwed.

It's AL !!!
Great post Rusty23 !!!
When it comes to AL DAVIS, as Raider’s fans we have several different opinions about the current state of Mr. Davis and our Raiders, but they can be summed up into TWO camps.
CAMP 1 : Al Davis has been one of the best (and at times the best) Owner in all of professional sports, but the last 6, (now going on to 7) seasons have really started to tarnish Mr Davis’ legacy and its now time for him to get a good GM (with a football background, not a lawyer background) to come in and “right” this sinking BLACK PEARL, and help send AL out into the sunset on a winning note.
CAMP 2: AL IS GOD !!! Don’t question him, he’s forgotten more football than any of us will ever know.
I do believe that the past three weeks have taken a toll on ALL RAIDERS’ fans, especially the ones who are in CAMP 2.
Yesterday’s debacle was clearly a new all-time LOW !!! (The Raiders have now lost three games in a row by 20+ points for the first time in their 50 year history).
This team is not only about the disasterous play of JaMarcus Russell, its NOW, also about other “professional” football players who look like they have already mailed in the season. They are not blocking, or tackling, or running, or catching, or anything that football players are suppose to be doing , especially when they are getting paid big money for it, in a depressed economy.
Coach Cable is the same guy that got these over-paid interns dressed in Silver and Black to play hard enough to win at Denver, beat the Jets and Houston at home, and ruin Tampa Bay’s playoff hopes last year. Now he is being compared to ART SHELL II (2006) in terms of coaching in-eptness.
All that being said, I still cheer for the Raiders, but I don’t expect any better results until this team makes serious changes, starting with our legendary , but rapidly declining , Owner.
All the “spiked” koo-aid in the world can’t restore my faith in Davis.
Yes, he is the man that built the team that won all those Championships in the past. But that was 25+ years ago. Take away the Gruden years, and the Raiders would literally have nothing to show for the last 20 years.
And you can take this to the bank, MR DAVIS is 100% responsible for every game played, every player and every coach hired, fired, or signed or released during the last 6+ years in which the RAIDERS are 25-101 (19.80 %) . This once proud franchise is now the WORST in all of sports.
Al, to his credit, has spent $$$ money, LOTS OF MONEY, in an attempt to get this team back to the top. But look who he has spent it on, and how much he has spent on them?
Javon Walker, Tom Kelly, JaMarcus Russell, Darius Haywood-Bey, Robert Gallery, Randy Moss, Warren Sapp, DeAngelo Hall, etc…
Not to mention, the coaches he hired (Callahan, Norv Turner, Art Shell, Lane Kiffin, and now Tom Cable), vs the guys he chose NOT to bring in (Sean Peyton, Steve Sarkisian, Jim Harbaugh, Ken Wisenhunt, Bob Petrino)… Not Hiring Peyton in 2004 and going with Norv Turner is turning out to be the WORST choice that Mr Davis made during that time.
Not to mention not sigining Drew Brees in 2006 free agency. And this is what the Raiders have become. An floundering , Mistake-prone organization.
Until Mr Davis is NO longer calling the shots in Oakland, this team will continue to flounder in 4-12 records, just good enough to have the 3rd or 4th pick over-all every year.
The Raiders have gone from the LAKERS of the NFL, to the CLIPPERS, and we look no further than MR. Davis for the reason why this has happened !!!
It’s AL !!!

One more thing we didn't discuss...
You hear from Davis and former Raider players all the time. There is no discipline in Raiderland at all!! No consequences for any player, no real power for any coach. Back in the 60’s let’s say up until the 80’s, players played hard for their team because they either: A – Had an incredible desire to win, or B – played for a contract because they needed the money. You could take a malcontent from one team, as Al did so many times, and put him in an envrionment with little discipline and say, “Just Win Baby” and they would. Players, like the rest of society, are different today. We are much more “me-focused” than Al Davis apparently understands. There needs to be real stucture around any enterprise, business or sports related. I’m NOT saying that ALL the players on the Raiders are comfortable or selfish but those who are, spoil it for the rest. Without structure & discipline there will be no accountabilty. Any of you work in an environment like this before? What were the results? I’ll give you the answer/word – FAILURE.
AD is out of touch. He can address it by going back to school on societal trends or by surrounding himself with people that do understand the reality we call “today.” Unfortunately, his arrogance and paranoia will preclude him from doing either.
by Rusty23 on Oct 12, 2009 12:07 PM PDT up reply actions 0 recs
Not having Payton or Sarkisian is Al's fault, but not because he didn't want them
He wanted them both. They both asked for control over gameplanning and personnel (you know, what every other coach in the league has). He said no. They in turn told him to go pound sand.
by Raybin on Oct 12, 2009 12:26 PM PDT up reply actions 0 recs
I don't think
There’s anybody left in Camp 2. I think Camp 2 just decided that Al is not going anywhere soon, and is less likely to change his ways with age. Thus, somehow a good coach must get in there, survive and still be able to get it done. Basically something like a miracle.

My two cents
We’re obviously a bad team, an awful team really. Here’s what I think we need in no real order of importance:
1. A more aggressive defensive philosophy. We need someone to come in here and turn this thing around on the D. Similar to what Willie Shaw did under Gruden initially. Under Bugel we gave up 400+ yards a game and were the worst in the league. By the next year we were competitive because of the addition of Woodson and because of a defense that played with intensity and discipline. That’s a must if this team is to improve. It’s exactly what gave us a chance to win on opening night.
2. Stability and improvement in the o-line. Injuries have been devastating. Prior to losing Gallery, we were doing a much better job pass protecting than we’re doing now. But the O-line has to get better if we’re to have a shot at respectability.
3. Better play from JaMarcus. I’m not nearly as down on him as everyone else is. I think that if we can actually stop somebody on defense—hasn’t happened the last two weeks— and actually block—hasn’t happened the last two weeks—then he will have a chance to grow and get better.
4. Chaz Schillens coming back. In hindsight this was a devastating injury. We need him back and the track star as a third receiver. That too will help Russell and give us a chance to move the ball. The drop by Watkins that opened the game is a good example of why the receivers give Russell little chance to get better.
5. Better play-calling. More bombs/fly patterns (we tried one today and almost hit it) and far more short throws.
6. Something on Special Teams returns. No chance for Higgins to do anything when we never force punts, of course.
Everybody wants to bury JaMarcus when there are plenty of other places to look. We need to find out if he can play with some semblance of a team around him. Right now we’re not seeing anything around him working at all.

The Giants executed at their best level yesterday, not such a reflection on your team as the final score shows. Against that attack a lot of teams would have lost by the same margin. You’re better, IMHO, than the Bills, Browns, Rams, and in the mix/could be better than the Titans, Chiefs, Panthers, Redskins, Lions… you might end up with the 9th pick!

As you might imagine.
We hang in there because Raider Nation has always had a “us against the world” bunker mentality. We hang in there for players like Tyvon Branch who care enough to come here and interact with the fans. We hang in there for all the players like Nnamdi Asomugha who deserve our support because they deserve better.
Davis is the major impediment to this team. Once he gives up control (or the ghost), we’ll be back.

I was at the game yesterday and while JaMarcus threw a few bad passes the entire offense looked like crap. Reminds me of playing for an inept HS coach … the same running plays back to back? are you kidding me? That off tackle handoff wasn’t working. Russell didn’t have time to throw at all, granted the giants d-line is a beast but still, we’re talking about paid professionals. the raiders defense has the players to succeed IMO but 1) you have to match Nnamdi up with the other team’s best receiver none of this strictly playing one side of the field over the other. 2) they need to play inspired .. it seemed like the defense wasn’t aggressive enough in their play. whatever changes come have to start at the the top. Al Davis is killing this franchise…period.

We are the worse.
The Browns are better. Their offense can move the ball even if their QB completes 2 passes (they still out gained us.) Anderson and Quinn are to viable QB’s who could do well in the right system. Mangini is not cut out to be a head coach, much similar to Norv Turner. Good assistants, bad head coaches.
The Loins are better. They have all the right pieces and should continue to add more. Culpepper didn’t look hateful yesterday and the Lions gave the Steeler’s a scare. Stafford will prove to be a good QB in the coming years and the Lions will get their. They have a tough division but I see them in the playoffs in 2-3 years.
The Chiefs are better. We shouldn’t have gotten that win. Cassel will come into his own and they will get it together. They need a running game and Johnson is washed up. They will beat us in Oakland this year. I’ll put money on it.
The Bills are better, they need a QB and I am sure will have one in the draft if their season ends like it is starting. They will be in the playoff mix in 2-3 as well.
The Bucs might be an exception but they have solid RB’s but the got rid of to many vets. They won’t be a playoff team for awhile but they will still post a better record than the Raiders for the next few seasons.
The Panthers are just doing their normal. They can’t make up their minds what team they want to have show up on game days. They need a QB. Delhome is toast.
The Texans need a few more defensive peaces and a RB to get them going. The offense still can put up points but the defense can’t stop anyone. They"ll hit the playoffs soon.
The Redskins will get their. They have the talent but they are in need of a QB as well. A decent WR might do because I don’t think it is all on the QB. They need a true number 1 WR.
The Rams might be there with us. But they are trying to sell so any new ownership group will come in and try to make a good go of it so I see them improving over the next 2 seasons. Not playoffs, but they will be a team to worry about.
In other words, we are the worse team in the league. I think we were last year as well. Other than the Bucs, we are really the only team that is going backwards and we are actually running fast backwards. It should have been a shut out yesterday as that touch down came from a horrible call.
We need to trade Fargas and Walker since Cable won’t play him. Bench Russell, McFadden, and DHB. Start Gradkowski, Bush, and Higgins or Walker. Cable needs to stop calling plays, he is stupid and doesn’t no what the hell he is doing. We need to ditch that crap play calling and scheme and go to a true west coast style offense. It fits the pieces we have and is the best system for young and/or week QB’s.
Do this and we finish the season 3-14. Don’t, we finish 1-16 with empty seats in the stands and a lynch mob going after Russell.

THE TRUTH HURTS
Yes,thanks to Big Al I think we might be the worst in the NFL.When I think of this seasons highlights all I can think of is the loss against San Diego For some reason I thought this team had finally come around, but nooo! You know being a 40 year Raider fan I should be used to the bizarre world of Al Davis and I think this present string of strange events(Kiffin hiring and firing, barring ex-players who speak the truth from Raider games, and the coaches beating each other up) have finally taken its toll on the team as well as my beloved Raider Nation. In the past we have looked the other way but this year feels different and I have never seen The Nation speak out as it has this year.I am afraid that Big Al’s run may finally be over and no one trusts his judgment to get this turned around. So no I don’t believe we are the worst team in the NFL, I think we are the worst run team in the NFL so that means the way to go is up and that will only happen when Big Al agrees to bring in better scouts and a well respected G.M. and coach with authority to make the appropriate decisions which I don’t think can happen while Big Al is still breathing.

Offense
One word, horrific!!! Again we witnessed no leadership from our quarterback. If you can not locate a receiver within four seconds or you sense a serious rush, throw the ball away! One posted that Todd Watkins had a drop on the first drive, check the replay, Todd had to jump a 180 to try and catch the poorly thrown ball. On the same play, Russel stepped up in the pocket buying about 5 or 6 seconds when he forced the ball to Todd in double coverage and M Bush was wide open directly in front of Russel for a 20 + yard gain, Russel didn’t even see him. I am imbarrassed to watch this team play, I am foolish to pay for direct TV so I can be embarrassed every week. Shame on me…. God bless the Raiders defense for even trying…There is no compexity to our offense and passing game. No timing routes as Russel sits and waits for receivers to get opened. I have never seen Russel throw a ball to a receiver before the break. This tells me he doesn’t understand/comprehend the offensive playbook and that he is running a basic offensive sceme. This will not get it done in the NFL Good quartebacks make their receivers look great. Great receivers can not make poor quarterbacks look good.

I honestly can't even see us beating Cleveland
because Cleveland actually has a pretty good running game and their defense, while bad, isn’t an abomination like years past.
KC is only a few plays from being about 3-2.
This just in, the Bengals are really freaking good.
Redskins aren’t doing to good but they’re still a great running team with a good defense.
I seriously have the Raiders final record as 1-15. We need to do whatever we can for more draft picks so we can start from the ground up. If you’re going to stick with Russell, at least put the finishing touches on the defense and build up the right side of the O-Line. Oh yeah, a halfway intelligent playcaller would be nice too.

Oh I don't know
The Browns are pretty awful. Against a 1-3 team, Derek Anderson just had the worst day passing I’ve ever seen. Even worse that Russell. Plus they have their share of fumbles, interceptions, just like we do. And they have to come here in front of a really ugly, hostile Raiders crowd just wanting to kill someone, anyone. Plus we look even worse than usual having just two played two undefeated teams, as well as the best two defenses in football.
But if you don’t buy any of that, it’s two days after Christmas. It’s the time for miracles.
