PLAYING RAIDERS IS LIKE A SCRIMMAGE!
Antonio Pierce has come out and said that playing the Raiders felt like a srimmage:
"I do not like knocking teams," Pierce said. "But right now, they're struggling. We're playing that game the other day and, honestly, it felt like a scrimmage, like a practice. It felt like we were going against our offense [in a controlled setting] as far as the tempo.
"There was no vibe of trying or effort from the Raiders at all from a defensive standpoint against their offense. We're getting three-and-outs. You don't hear nobody [saying], 'Hey, let's go!' trying to pick the guys up, rallying them, getting guys fired up. There was nothing. It was quiet. A guy gets sacked or somebody gets beat, they just get up. It's not like there's yelling or no kind of [emotion] about the way they were playing.
"It was shocking to be out there in that game and get that kind of feeling."
What the F is going on with this team, seems so far from week one when the showed so much promise., how bad is it when the shining light is a loss? I've been a big defender for the most part but how can anyone support this? hopefully this will be a spark.........hopefully
Ill never stop supporting the Raiders but this cuts, I think bringing back Gruden is the only option and giving him as much control as he wants, he clearly still has a affinity for the Raiders and would bring the discipline and passion back.

What to do
They should
1) def. Hire Gruden with full control
2) look to get Jason Cambell in the offseason
3) Need a veteran WR worth while not counting out walker just yet I want to see him play since he says he’s a go
4) O-LINE O-LINE O-F***ING Line draft first round and second round if needed

No doubt about it
I was at the games when Gruden was here. It was a completely different swag that the team had and even that was going on in the Coliseum. We had the attitude that “we were the RAIDERS so whatcha wanna do about it?” I was at all the regular season games and playoff games during our Super Bowl run. That team was basically running off the fumes left by the team Gruden had created.
He can INSTANTLY bring back that attitude and turn this franchise around.
No doubt about it!!!!

You must be joking. Gruden is a hack. he takes a team that is already built and for one maybe two years does something with them. When it comes to the third year its all down hill.

If I Was the Owner
The first thing I would do is stop Tom Cable from calling the plays; however, since your question deals with after the season, I’d fire basically the entire coaching staff. After doing that, I’d hire a general manager. I’d let the general manager do his thing and hire a new head coach. Then, from there, we rebuild yet again.

Marty Schottenheimer
He’s AFC West GOLD.
I’d give him complete control of everything for at least 5 years. If he can’t win in the playoffs, I’d give him front office control and let him find his own coach.
A Schottenheimer led Raiders team would be a terrifying force and would play hard every single week.
I’d also beg Steve DeBerg to come in and work as the QB coach.
by bansky on Oct 14, 2009 5:46 PM PDT reply actions 0 recs
There is no chance in hell that Marty Schottenheimer is coming to the Raiders
he hates Al Davis and Al hates him right back. Your DeBerg idea is out of left field to be sure I mean the guy couldn’t cut it in the Arena League.
I think we all know Gruden isn’t coming back either and that’s fine as sequels are hardly ever as good as the original.
I like the Brian Billick idea although he’s doing some solid work as a broadcaster and I wonder if he’d want to come into this mess of a team.
One last thing about Michael Vick, are you guys seeing something that no one else is? He’s a third string quarterback who has played in years. His career accuracy rate is 53.7% which isn’t much better than JaMarcus Russell’s 51.4%. The Raiders can do better at quarterback next season than Michael Vick.

Do a little research
Steve DeBerg is a private QB coach who works with both Pro and top college quaterbacks in the offseason. Many NFL teams have offered him top positions, only to be turned down because he loves what he does.
Two, the question was, “IF YOU WERE THE BOSS” NOT Al Davis.

to tell someone their post was “almost well written” but fell apart in a few paragraphs, but have never contributed anything of your own to educate us with, is arrogant…and to be arrogant without having comprehended what was written, that’s even worse.

i don't care if i look like a jerk
and so you know, i’ve only been an asshole to you. i don’t tell people what they write is lacking, falls apart, or their idea is out of left field. if i disagree with a post or fanshot comment, i leave it alone, i don’t try to make myself look clever by making snide comments. if i disagree with something, i’ll try to figure out why, read about it, learn about it, and by that time, who cares. but to just throw snide comments at someone, that’s bullshit, it does nothing to move the conversation or debate forward, and in the end, your feelings got hurt.
i also proved my point about DeBerg and you have yet to prove anything.

Stability is a good thing, Cable not so good
There’s a reason Cable has never been given a chance at an NFL head coaching position, and why nobody went after him this past offseason despite the Raiders late season improvement last year. The better answer, I think, is to hire a competent GM and coach and give them at least a 3 or 4 year period of time to show improvement. Don’t panic if the team is still crap after the first or second year, or still not a winner in the third or fourth year. As long as there’s a plan in place and some progress towards the goal, then let ‘em stay. That’s the stability we need.

All these poll questions aren'r really fair
because we don’t know how the current staff would do if Davis wasn’t there calling the shots.
Looking at the plays being called, it’s obvious Cable has no trust in Russell. I suspect he’d be sitting down. I also think that we would have signed a veteran QB by now to mentor Russell and help us win. A lot of what goes on in Oakland falls on Davis’ shoulders. If the coaching staff were allowed to coach then maybe things would be different.

You stated that you needed to sign a veteran QB, did you not?
Well I responded to your comment. The least of the Raiders problem is a QB. You have an owner/GM who was once great, and made the Raiders the “cream” of the NFL. The issue is the game has passed him by. You have a Head Coach who was not ready for the job, but since he was Al’s guy, he got the job. The NFL need’s to assume day to day operations of the Raiders, for the good of league. It has happened in MLB, Marge Schott and the Reds. Al can still be the owner, but the NFL needs to put a President and GM into the Raiders.

Cable wasn't Al's guy
he was actually Kiffin’s guy. And he did good w/ the o-line. That’s where he belongs. I don’t think he’s a good head coach, but then again it’s not really fair to judge him by that at Oakland.
I don’t think I want the NFL to step in and run the team. I want them to make Davis hire a GM. I don’t like Goddel as commissioner I don’t think I’d want him to say what goes on w/ the team. And I don’t want him picking a GM either.

fire Cable
he’s not motivating this team like he did late last year. Hire Gruden, assuming he’d be willing to work here. From there, rebuild this team centering around filling the last two or three gaps in the defense and refining the O-Line so the running game can excel once more. Natural receiver development will take its course but a vet is needed. If Russell can’t manage to win with all this in place, then w plain and simply have to move past him. Actually, I’d release Russell since there’s no cap in 2010 for his bonus to really effect. From there I’d bring in Campbell if released. He’s unpolished, but he’s shown he can win games and manage games much like a Joe Flacco. If not, then draft McCoy with the first round pick.
I’ll probably post a more detailed post over the weekend.

next year is the perfect year to rebuild
but I’d much rather we use that lack of cap to build via the draft. Maning, trade some people for as many picks as you can get and use the lack of cap to sign the many draft picks and free agents that will need to be signed to fill the traded spots.

I actually love Davis's ability to get late-round steals
which is why trading guys like Ricky Brown, Justin Fargas, Jon Alston, Gerard Warren (as much as that would pain me), Cooper Carlisle, even Samson Satele would be great. We could get a lot of thirds, fourths, and fifths for Davis to work his steal pick magic. But seriously, how hard could it be to draft Suh, Spikes, or McCoy with the first rounder.

that some of the poor play calling is directly related to the QB. Cable simply doesn’t trust Russell enough to open the pass, so we’re stuck w/ a one dimensional team.

even the run plays are bullshit though
McFadden can’t go up the middle, why is Fargas still running the ball, and why is Bush only just now getting his second touchdown of the season? I know the O-Line has been suspect, but there’s also some shitty playcalling.
And what you put just proves my point as to why Russell MUST be released and that either Campbell needs to be signed or McCoy needs to be drafted.
Also, we really need to not sign Mike Vick. It’s nothing against him as a person, it’s just that he’s more inaccurate than Jason Campbell with less arm strength.

Since week 1?
But what’s the point? The Raiders have nobody better than Russell. Even if they did, or even if he was coming along nicely, the O-Line sucks and the receivers are unreliable. Even if those two things weren’t the case, we still have half-assed coaching staff.
Yet despite all that, people just want to keep saying over and over again, “Russell sucks!” So do most of the 22 starters (the kickers obviously being exempt) on this team. Isn’t it time we move on to some of the others?

I can't escape what has bothered me so much from the beginning:
and what Jarrod Cooper pointed out in that podcast, and what I’ve heard from lots of you all about Jamarcus. Nothing close to what you’d expect from a leader. No fire whatsoever. He waits for people to come to him to talk. What other great QB did you see react that way? No communication with players and coaches on the sideline during the game. What’s practice like? and in the locker room?
No one can argue that these are fair and accurate criticisms of Jamarcus; even though I know many were chastised for pointing anything like that out.

It was Gruden’s lack of a guy like Gannon in Tampa that was the cause for his inability to get things going there. Gradkowski was a lost cause.

I only said it wouldn’t make a difference if we switch to Gradkowski. I did stick up for JaMarcus in the summer when it was looking like he might develop into something, especially after that Tampa Bay game. I assumed he’d get better this year, not worse. Didn’t we all?

hmm I guess some people mean to bench him and end it there
but I wanna bench Russell to light a fire under his ass.

Well
There’s two things about that
1} I get the feeling from Al that Russell won’t be benched until HE gives up on Russell, and once that happens…well, DeAngelo Hall comes to mind.
2) We’re hearing everyday how fat, lazy and stupid the guy is. Couple that with the fact that this team has been voted worst in the league by it’s own fans. If all that is true, then maybe he doesn’t mind sitting on the bench for $31 million. Quite possibly what fire there is to be lit is already burning low. Sounds awfully negative, I realize that. But somebody mentioned Ryan Leaf, so….

Well that's the problem
Davis doesn’t want to be wrong and give Kiffin the satisfaction.

I have to admit, I did
but I don’t anymore. I also defended Al far too long. both of those douchebags continue to prove their critics right, time and time again.

And with that in mind
For those who are still sleeping, today is the Red River Shoot Out, Oklahoma vs. Texas. One of these guys might be our QB next year.

I think Davis just said
he won’t draft a QB.

Seriously??
Sooooo I guess we’ll be having somebody like Derek Anderson or Byron Leftwich starting for us next season…

I'm going by what he said about Russell
so I expect to see Russell next season as starter again.

I'd actually like to Stanzi as a possible QB for us
if he slips to the second or even the third. He can run and his incredibly accurate. Especially checking it down to TE’s and RB’s, something every Oakland QB will have to do.
