This needs to be on the Home Page: Podcast of Jarrod Cooper tellin' it how it really is in Oakland
Originally being from the bay area, and still living close enough (modesto, ca) to get plenty of local sports news, I feel alot of responsibility for providing as much of this stuff to this blog as possible.
I regularly listen to a bay area sports talk radio staion, KNBR 680. Some locals may have heard of it and/ or listen to it. One of the regular guests of the show is Jarrod Cooper, former safety and team captain of the Oakland Raiders.
He had plenty to say about almost all possible topics concerning the Raiders. But before we get to that, how about a little more info about our man Jarrod Cooper.
Jarrod Cooper was drafted in 2001 by the Carolina Panthers out of Kansas State. He was part of the 2004 Super Bowl team that was defeated by the New England Patriots.
As like the rest of us, he was no saint in his younger adult years. After a few run ins with the law, including 2 DUI's (been there myself, so for all you youngsters out there, NEVER DRINK AND DRIVE! YOU CAN ALWAYS FIND A SOBER DRIVER. NOT WORTH THE FINES AND/OR JAIL TIME!) and providing false information to a police officer, he was waived in later that year by the Panthers in October of 2004.
The Raiders almost immediately claimed him off waivers. He was named one of the team captains in 2006.
Unfortunately, trouble caught up with him again as he failed a league mandated drug test prior to the 2007 drug test. He was re-signed after serving his suspension. His days with the Raiders basically ended when he was placed on season ending injured reserve with a torn ACL. He was then released in August of 2007.
On another note though, he won the Ed Block Courage Award, which is a player chosen by teammates as a source of inspiration and courage. This is heralded as one of the most pretigious awards in the NFL. He has also been a big part of the Oakland Animal Shelter since coming over to Oakland. He has dedicated plenty of his time volunteering and donating money for the shelter. I myself have served my AWP (alternative work program for my DUIs) at a dog shelter, and take it from me, it's not a walk in the park cleaning up after all these dogs and cats.

Now although I did get alot of my general information from wikipedia, I myself have met Jarrod at many local autograph events as well as some local charity events. Let me tell you first hand, he is a straight up real dude. Although he is not presently playing for the Raiders, he is still a very big figure in the Oakland community. And like I said above with his awards and community services, he's not some punk chump like some others who have done the Silver and Black colors wrong.
Now on to some of the contents of this podcast.
YOU HAVE GOT TO LISTEN TO THIS THING FROM BEGINNING TO END. HE PULLS NO PUNCHES!!!!
The show he was on is know as "The Razor and Mr. T." Mr. T being Tom Tolbert who some may remember from his days with the Golden State Warriors. The Razor, I don't really know who he is. Just some guy with a really funny voice I guess. During the broadcast, Mr. T is not there because he's attending his son's high school football game so it's only The Razor and Jarrod Cooper.
They get right into it about how this Raider squad is not a team by any means of the word. He goes into some of the words provided by an unnamed Giants player who had some comments about how playing the Raiders was basically an extra bye week.
He them digs on Javon Walker and how he's lazy and a terrible player. "I don't want him over Thanksgiving! He'd probably end up dropping the turkey on the kitchen floor! And we'll all be going out to Mexican food!"
He reveals that "a certain owner of a certain Oakland Raiders football team by the name of Al Davis told Randy Moss in front of the whole team to, 'Shut up and catch footballs, that's the only reason I brought you here.' " He also mentions how Moss purposely fumled a ball during a Monday Night Football game.
Jamarcus becomes the next target and how he comes off the field and isn't talking to the coaches or wide receivers and how he waits for people to come to him. He asks where Cable is as the head coach and why he isn't talking to his quarterback who just fumbled the ball 5 times. "NO BIG SURPRISE HE SUCKS!"
One thing that he mentions that is very relevant to some of the recent fanposts is about the time when there was a billboard put up for Jon Gruden on the side of a local highway in regards to his charity work. Of course Al Davis went crazy with jealously because of this. So it might almost hurt the cause if in someway there was to be a billboard in regards to the fans being so disappointed with Al and his dealings of the Raiders.
This is just some of the stuff within this podcast. So listen for yourself

knbr suck BUT...
What he said about Jamarcus coming off the field and going straight to the bench and not talking to a coach is so true
got that
I was trying to be funny. I guess it was kinda lame. Don’t even really listen to KNBR.
It’s all I can do to try to keep a sense of humor about everything, all things considered.
you can laugh at lame jokes like that
or laugh at the team. So I guess pick your poison :)
Win, Lose, or Tie, Raiders til I die!
Brutal
Good lord, that was the most brutal thing I’ve ever heard.

it was kinda tough coming from what seems to be a pretty credible source
and he wasn’t saying anything we don’t already see. I guess if teams keep treating the Raiders like a bye week or scrimmage game, we either hit rock bottom, or the dickheads respond to it and get their shit together.
Who am I kidding. Al will fuck it up either way…
Are we suposed to be suprised by anything he says?
i actually listening to this interview live(by the way, Ralph aka “the razor” is the biggest raider hater and so is every radio host on knbr). hes not the first former player that rips the raiders. we deserve to get riped.
I'm gametime_gsw, and I approve this message.
Well,
It seems like we WILL have to wait for the owner to depart from this organization before ANYTHING Ever goes good for the Silver and Black…It’s close to dying in all aspects, due to the amount of blood loss..(if you ask me, it shoulda been dead for 2 years now.) I bet it will take 2 0-16 seasons IN A ROW before we get change.

what he said about leaders explains why so many individuals can be so dripping with talent
and be like, " a scrimmage, or a second bye week," for a real football team.
Sad thing is, the fire’s going out for guys like Nnamdi and Branch, and probably Warren too. Was surprised to hear that he actually got on guys for failing assignments and saying they needed to get better.
This team is like a vacuum for leadership. Al sucks the life and will out of any great player. No wonder Randy looked like he didn’t give a fuck. He didn’t! I’ll still never forgive him for it, regardless. But if you’re owner does something that disrespectful to a guy who can bring much needed leadership to a team of young talented guys, you’re in for a lot of long seasons. Ever worked for someone like Al?
Hey
Fuck all you Raider hater fans! Why are you guys listening to this bullshit this guy doesnt even play football anymore hes a steroid user and drug and alcohol abuser! Why cant those IDIOTS from KNBCRAP interview a real player like Miller or Ellis those are positive and real professionals. I’m amazed on how stupid you guys are listening to this BULLSHIT radio station that does nothing in favor of the Oakland Raiders and their Fans but humiliate and hate on them! If there is something to BOYCOTT its bullshit reporting like this fucking weak radio station!
"THE RAIDERS DON'T REBUILD THEY RELOAD"
slow it down there Sparky
Are you referring to those of us here on this particular post as Raider hater fans? Cuz your comin’ way outta pocket on that one if that’s the case. You couldn’t be any further from the truth with that.
What the fuck does it matter if he still plays football or not still? He didn’t leave the Raiders on bad terms and has no kind of beef with them.
He did however play with the from 2004-2007 while they went 15-49 and were horrible then just as they are now.
He was there for the second Art Shell experiment and FAILURE!
He was there for the Lane Kiffin soap opera!
He was in the locker room, in the meetings, on the field and on the sidelines for all of this. I would definately say he has some crediblility with what he had to say. He just has the balls to say it and put Al Davis on blast!!!!
It sounds like your comment is running a little more on emotion here. Would you still consider what he had to say bullshit if it had been reported or said in your local newspaper, radio station, or ESPN for that matter? It doesn’t matter at all where it was put out. The simple fact is that everything that he said was pretty much what all of us have assumed was what was going on within the franchise. But now we have actually here it straight from somebody who was there.
Emotion...
I am tired of the hating too…do I think everyone on this sight is hating, no. The Giants game was just a turing point for so many people. This interview stinks, I wouldn’t promote it to the front page. Why, so more people will listen and get even more pissed off? There has not been one positive read on the Raiders anywhere that I can find. I am sick of it too. I used to come to this sight to drink the cool aid. I have never seen it this bad. I need my deluisional world back lol
I live, breath and breed Silver and Black!
Am I fuckin' missing something here
What the fuck can anyone point out that might have the slimmest chance of being positive about this Raider team? I really only have one. When the team is this shitty, and let’s face it, it has happened before, you can get tickets to the games really cheap.
Believe me, I am always the one to see things as being half full and not half empty. There is nothing more that I want than for the Raiders to come out of this funk. At this point I’m just asking for them to give a shit. To be competitive at least. Can you really tell me that it looks like that right now?
I’m not even talking about looking at the scores of the games we have lost. You can see it on the faces and the play of the team. Antonio Pierce said it himself that he didn’t hear anybody on the field trying to rally the troops or anything like that.
Hmmm
Positive things about the Raiders…
1) Huff decided to play this season for some inexplicable reason.
2) Seymour actually showed up instead of retiring or going to Arena football rather than play for a godawful team.
3) Murphy, a fourth round pick, having a respectable season.
4) Ellis averaging almost a sack a game.
5) Leading the league in average yards per punt.
6) Oh yeah, and Cable might get arrested which will make it easier to fire him.
Huff has been practicing on his own
w/ Asmo. That’s why he got so much better…oh and he doesn’t like the bench.
Win, Lose, or Tie, Raiders til I die!
unfortunately this is a team game
as of right now our team record is what? ya that’s right 1-4. Nothing positive about that. All the individual stats in the world will not justify the kind of play on the field we have seen so far this season
This can help the team
The Raiders organization doesn’t care what the fans think. When do they ever reach out to us especially during these troubled times? Are they even willing to lower ticket prices or offer some extra incentive to go to games?
But the Press, they can’t ignore. This is just one of many anti-Raider articles, including the one by Poole on how the Raiders and Warriors have fallen into disgrace. Now they’ve had six years to get this team back on track after the loss in the Super Bowl. Either it can’t be done, or they have failed to do it. I think the second one is more likely, which means they aren’t trying hard enough, not taking it seriously enough, whatever. But the more scathing articles there are in the press, the more pressure they will be under to do something, and get it right this time. They want the criticism to stop, they do what is necessary to put a winning team on the field. If they don’t know how to do that with the staff they have now, then they’d better hire somebody with football smarts and give him enough control to do it for them.
ja russ
Just bench the guy, at the very least he will see that the job isn’t his no matter how bad he is or how much he doesn’t care. Maybe seeing Gradkowski lead the team to over 200 yrds offense will strike a nerve with him and he will actually decide to work hard. I doubt it but what else can we hope for?

I almost wasn't gonna rec it
and then I thought about the 200 yards, and if JR can do 100 and some, then 200 is manageable.
