Beating the jets, from a pats fan perspective.

I'd like to give an assessment of keys to winning the game, from a perspective of a pats fan.

Keys to winning the game:

Defensively:

1) Keep the running game from the jets in check. They have 2 very good RB's, and the jets like to run the ball(#2 in Rushing yards). Keep that in check, and not giving up big running plays will force sanchez to throw, and eventually make a mistake.

2) Capitalize on the turnovers. I don't want to see our defense face their offense over and over again, and making our defense tired and the jets and their running game will eventually be too much for them.

3) STOP THEM ON 3RD DOWNS! With the type of running backs they have, you need to prevent them from converting as much as possible Although they are 32% on 3rd downs, sanchez never really helped them in that category. like i said in #1, keep the running game in check, force sanchez to throw, instead of having the jets run for the 1st.

Offensively:

1) take advantage of the middle with the run. Without Jenkins, i fear that the jets may have lost the best cog in their defense. Make them pay for it! But if it doesn't work, running and play-action would work well. The raiders need to be really creative with their plays because how rex ryan knows how to get a good defensive scheme going, and might figure out what the raiders might do next.

2) They need to watch blitzes on almost every play. therefore the raiders need to use screen and quick passes to take turn their blitzing into an advantage. A draw play might also come in handy!

3) They have an OUTSTANDING corner in Darrel Revis. Respect the guy, and hope russel avoids passing in his direction at all times, because 70-80% of the time it will either be a pass breakup or int.

4) MIX IT UP! don't rely on just the run or just the pass! Make the defense guess, and you will win.

I hope these were not bad keys to the game. I'd hate to share info. you already know, but thought it might be worthy to discuss about. Any ways, from a pats point of view, this game will be very difficult, and Ryan will likely yell at his player's performance last week against the bills. I doubt you'll see 5 ints from sanchez, or anything you saw against the bills, so lets hope for a great game next sunday!

GO RAIDERS!!!!

I think your first point on defense is the key to the game.

Sanchez can be contained, but those backs have run on everyone. Not only are they good, but they have one of the best O-lines in the game creating those holes.

a true challenge for our D this week.

Stop this run, and I’ll say our D is for real, and can contend with the top in the league.

excellent point P, I'll be looking forward to watching that factor

people often overlook how significant that can be, but I think that’s a mistake. The Raiders always somehow have guys from every other team. You know Ellis had some input defensively last week agains Philly!

for me

if they can stop the run on their first few series out there then to me they’re a top unit. After that they’ll probably be so winded from the bad offensive play that you wouldn’t be able to accurately judge their potential.

great point, but last week the D just kept up the intensity

and someone pointed out how traveling cross country can suck life out of guys. I think judging by the losses incurred by West coast teams to the East last year one would be a fool to overlook the significance of that. Looking forward to a great game, and a fired up Raiders team! Don’t hear Mr. Ryan talking any smack this week, now do we!

Nice points

I see two defensive keys to this game:

1) Bring the heat on Mark Sanchez. Blitzing the shit out of a rookie QB is never a bad idea, especially one who might have his confidence rattled because he just threw 5 INT’s.

2) Stop Leon Washington. Washington is the kind of player that has killed us over the years. If he has like 8 yards per carry by the end of the game, we’re toast.

Offensively:

1) Run Bush and Fargas right at where Kris Jenkins should be. Exploit that for all it’s worth.

2) A gradual expansion of the passing game. First, work a lot of screens to Gary Russell to beat the blitz. Then start throwing medium balls to Miller and Schilens. Then take the shot with DHB or Murphy.

"'Tis a bird I love, with its brooding note, And the trembling throb in its mottled throat; There's a human look in its swelling breast, And the gentle curve of its lowly crest; And I often stop with the fear I feel-- He runs so close to the rapid wheel." murphy

NOT DHB
unless its a bubble screen where its an easy catch , dont ever throw to dhb
i like walker seeing more time and actually getting a catch or 2

nice additional points!

Blitzing and stopping the run will be key for the game.

My biggest concern

My biggest concern is defending the run. The Raiders’ defense, for the most part, has done a good job of stuffing the opposing offense on a regular basis. The problem is that mixed in with those stuffs are a few absolutely gamebreaking offensive plays. Look at the Houston game. There were a total of about 9 plays that turned into 250+ yards. I was surprised that the big plays against Philly didn’t kill the Raiders this past Sunday.

Leon Washington is the guy I’m worried about most. Just like Darren Sproles in Week 1, he is a shifty back with good hands out of the backfield. He has very good speed and he is the type of player who has killed the Raiders in recent years. Containing him is going to be key.

leon

is fast and quick, but neither of those are as good as sproles’s speed and quickness. he’ll bounce to the outside the most, and take advantage of our LB’s. stay close to the line, and stay ALERT!

jets fan here

what about special teams?

the jets wins have come with a lot of support from them, with the offense starting around the 40.
lately, with the losses, leon has had to kneel down a lot and PR jim leonhard has had little impact.

also, when the jets have won, they were able to pin the opponent near their own goal line.

how good is the raiders special teams coverage?

and the home of the... JETS!!!

by dvdvil on Oct 21, 2009 7:10 AM PDT reply actions   0 recs

this could be the factor that decides this game, and unless the Raiders get it together

which they should, because it ain’t personnel… We’ll lose the game if we field the same special teams play we’ve seen thus far this season.

With or without the pigeon??

We do need to tighten up our special teams coverage, no question and get some big plays from them.

I watched every Rex Ryan game over the past decade.

To beat him:

1. Pass short and over the middle. His LB’s are scarecrows in pass defense.

2. Run the Hurry Up. His defencive plays take a while to be communicated around the field and can be exposed with the hurry up.

3. Hines Ward him. Quick slants and RB screens drive him nuts because he frequently gets caught on the blitz and his LB’s get sucked in.

4. He is terrible in the 2minute drill. He lost nearly every game for the Ravens when he had to stop the other team under 2 minutes. For all his bravado he goes into a chicken dime that shows 2 LB’s standing in a no mans land zone. Receivers simply need to sit down in an open spot. He changed this a little this year..after costing us.

5. He could never beat the Colts, NE, or Pitt . What do these teams have in common besides great QB’s? They pass and use a ton of quick slant plays. They didn’t get caught up with the run and let Rex set the tone.

As far as Rex’s offense I have no idea. I haven’t cared to watch.

he beat NE in wk 2

u need to be diverse in your offense. if all u do is do quick slants and screens then he’ll adjust like THAT! he’s not TOO bad in the hurry up, and i’d say that that is a very good way to beat his defense.

Score Early!

by patriotguy on Oct 22, 2009 6:27 PM PDT up reply actions   0 recs

That win over NE is an aberition or just a slap in the Ravens face because he actually went against his career methods of not blitzing in key passing plays or in the 2 minute. That game was painful to watch because he Didn’t do the same thing with our D against Tom. I chalk it up more to a rusty Tom not a clever Rex.

I can’t really nail it down but he is not a winner. He’ll get you to the edge but not over the top.
