Week 7: The New York Jets

 Nyj_medium                                                                                                                                   Mj_raiders_team_logo_medium

Coming into Week 7, The Oakland Raiders play the New York Jets. The Raiders are coming off a huge win last week against the Eagles. Jamarcus Russell showed some talent and lead the Oakland to an offensive uproar. The defense was miraculous to say the least. Richard Seymour had another huge game and is clearly a leader despite being in his first year with the team. Trevor Scott proved his worth with his two sacks. Overall, the Oakland Raiders played a great game against a great team.

On the other, The Jets are coming off three straight losses including an embarrasing loss to the Buffalo Bills. Rookie Mark Sanchez threw an astonishing 5 interceptons. But the Jets running game was explosive. New Yorks superstar and defensive nose tackle Kris Jenkins suffered an season ending injury last week. That is a huge lost for New York. New York needs an impressive win to keep Rex Ryan and Mark Sanchez off the hot seat.

But, I believe that the Oakland Raiders will win in week 7. We have them beat on Defense and as I always say Defense wins games. The only thing that worries me is the Jets Rushing attack and our Run D. Leon Washington and Thomas Jones are explosive. But if Oakland can get to Sanchez and put him on his back and get in his face. He will have another Interception infested game. Im not saying Oakland has to completely stop the run, Im just saying they need to make it non-noticable.

On the Offensive side of the ball, Oakland needs to protect Jamarcus at all costs. New York likes to blitz and we like to not pick up those blitz's for some reason. They have done a decent job with QB protection so but sadly, Oakland is notorious for giving up large sums of sacks. Michael Bush needs to step up. I would love to see a 140+ yard game form him on sunday, but Cable will most likely split carries with Justin Fargas and him. So he needs to make the most out the opportunities and destroy the Jenkinless Jets and pound the ball right up the middle. If Jamarcus manages the game and Tom Cable keeps on the ground 70% of the game, we will win in the offensive stats.

On sunday, I will be sleeping on the New York Jets while the Oakland Raiders suprise ESPN once again. This is a very important game. With a win Oakland will go into San Diego winning to straight. Thats a big deal. The Raiders have a very winnable schedule for the next 4 weeks.

      My Predictions:

Oak 24   NY 13

Offensive Stats:

Jamarcus Russell: 20-32 / 247 YD's / 2 TD's / 1 Int

Justin Fargas: 17 Rush's / 69 YD's/

Michael Bush: 24 Rush's / 118 YD's / 1 TD

Chaz Schillens: 4 Rec / 60 YD's

Louis Murphy: 8 Rec / 108 YD'S / 1 TD

Darrius Heyward-Bey: 2 Rec / 24 YD'S / 1 TD

Zach Miller: 6 Rec / 50 YD's

Defensive Stats:

Michael Huff: 5 Tckl's / 2 Int's

Greg Ellis: 3 Tckl's / 1 Sck

Richard Seymour: 6 Tckl's / 3 Sck's

Now of course those stats will most likely not be dead on. But they get the point across. All those players will effect the game in there own way. I am expecting stats similar to those though. Do you agree with me or think I'm crazy? Let me Know.

If your predictions come true I will be dancing naked in the streets!

440 yards of O! 14 completions for WR’s 3 sacks for Seymour 2, picks for Huff! If any one of these things happens I like the Raiders chances.

Wherever I go, that's where I am.

Well....

I guess all that acid and mushrooms i ate earlier might have helped with my predictions.lol I guess the offensive statistics are a bit of a reach but i can see some of em actuallt happening

by Remix. on Oct 23, 2009 1:37 AM PDT reply actions   0 recs

dont see it happening

we need to stay humble oakland!
just cause we got one win doesnt mean we can beat anyone in the nfl
im as optimistic as you all are, but i think itll be closer than 24 13
we might keep them to one or 2 touchdowns
but our d needs to come through and mix it up so they can put some points on the board. im overall praying we dont get our asses whipped but at the same time i think we have a legit chance of pulling it off
as every other week, it depends on how jamarcus does….

Agree and rec'd

I’m excited about the possibility of a two game win streak. Things seem to breaking right for the Raiders this week, between the decision not to charge Cable, to Chaz coming back, to the Jets losing some key players. But the team and the fans have to stay humble. You win the game on the field, not on the blog discussion. I agree that JRuss will have to play a good game, and that’s what worries me. The offense didn’t exactly carry its weight last week. The best that could be said about them is that they didn’t screw up the great effort of the defense. But the defense will have to step up again ‘cuz I don’t see a whole lot of points in this game. What excites me the most about the defense this week is Seymour’s confidence. He stuck his neck out and said the Raiders will make the playoffs. He’s a legit defensive stud with a winning background and if his attitude rubs off on the rest of the defense, that will be one hell of a unit. My prediction is another similiar outcome to last weeks game: Raiders in a close, low scoring game.

The Jet's o-line is much better than the Eagles'

And it’s a bit premature to expect such a great day for our D, but I really think if we blitz and run a lot of zone and mix things up we have a chance.

Their defense is REALLY good, and I see this being a low-scoring affair. Raiders win, 10-9.

These are my principles. If you don't like them, I have others. -Groucho Marx

yea it would be close

they have tons of key injuries
cotchery, jenkins, lito sheppard, and brad smith
also ryan benched james ihedigbo and linebacker marques murrell
so things are in our favor big time
but it depends on if our players come out to play. then itll be a fight

Well I hope you're right with the picks Remix

and if you are I’ll be dancing naked out in the streets as well. I’d love to see Michael Bush get the ball 24 times as I still think he’s the best back on the team.

The Jets are reeling right now having lost three in a row add in the fact they have to travel across the country and the Raiders might have a good chance to win this game.

Oh I want to pick the Raiders so much here but I just think they’ll fall a little short as Rex Ryan is going to bring the house and I think the offensive line will struggle to protect Russell.

I hope I’m wrong here but I see the Jets winning 13-10.

Raider's vs Jets

I must say… for the most part, I agree with your comments… I disagree with the score, I’m predicting a more modest…. Raiders 17 Jets 13. And that definitely depends on our rushing game. I believe both Bush and Fargas will need big numbers, to keep Coach Ryan, back peddling so to speak. And here is where I draw the critics… If Ja Marcus is struggling against the Jets blitz packages, maybe… Coach Cable, should give some looks to Charlie Frye…. This would be just for this game’s situation… I’m not saying, make a permanent switch… But as I said, You are pretty much in the zone, for this one, It will be fun to see how close you are!!

Injury Update

According to David White, there has been a setback for Chaz Schilens.

He got a little sore today," Cable said. “We don’t know if there’s anything wrong. Right, at this point, we may know something this afternoon or tomorrow, exactly what our plan will be, but a little sore today. So we shut him down.”

Also, there’s some news that isn’t good concerning veteran defensive linemen Richard Seymour and Greg Ellis.

Seymour is questionable for Sunday — just like defensive end Greg Ellis, who is still not practicing because of aging knee problems. That’s eight sacks and a world of difference-making up in the air.

Seymour was out today just because of stomach flu though...

and Ellis basically is limited because he is old and so are his knees. They will both be fine on Sunday…knock on wood.

Wherever I go, that's where I am.
