Tired of the Russell bashing
Personally I'm sick of all the Russell bashing. There are 5 men on the offensive line, 3 of our starters wouldn't be back ups on most teams. Anybody see that O-line comparison recently? Most teams have on average at least four seconds to throw the ball. The Raiders line is giving him on average 2.5 seconds to make a throw. The quick slant is the quickest throw you can make and it requires 3 seconds. We've got 2 rookie WRs starting who can't catch a cold in the dead of winter who are routinely running incorrect routes. However, even the great Jerry Rice dropped everything his first year. Our running game doesn't exist again, because our O-line can't block anybody. Matt Ryan has a dominating running game behind him. Flacco has a dominating running game behind him. I wouldn't matter if we had Manning, Brady or Montana they wouldn't be successful with this team around them. I'm not at all mad about the throw to Watkins that turned into an INT, how many times have you people throw the ball up and give his WR a chance to make a play. Watkins sucked butt on that awful attempt at a catch. I said it before the start of the season when everybody was so excited, some of you even saying playoffs, that they didn't bring in any talent on the offensive line or in the LBs to expect any success. In fact, we loss talent on the O-line. Everything starts up front. We won't be any good until we invest in the O-line. And by the way, Morrison is completely overrated. Watch closely and you'll see just how many plays he misses.

I'm tired of all the JaMarcus defending!
Take off the silver & black tinted glasses and actually watch him. He is truly, monumentally bad. And he is so oblivious to this fact that he’ll never get any better. Sure the team around him is bad also. But that’s no excuse for his poor play.

So here we go another Russell supporter that wants to pass the blame.
It’s not Russell, now it’s the O-line.
While we do have a shaky O-line, it’s not them who passes the blame all the time. And you can’t blame them all the time.
It’s Russell’s fault he hasn’t improved on the fundamentals. It’s his fault he can’t read the defense. It’s his fault he doesn’t put in the time to study the film of the opposing team. It’s his fault he hasn’t developed any pocket presence. It’s his fault he’s regressed from last year to this year. Even the coaches have said it. It’s HIS FAULT HE GOT BENCHED.
Russell’s not gonna cut it. I don’t think the other 2 are either, but they’re probably gonna do better.

Right now JaMarcus Russell is in
Marc Wilson and Todd Marinovich territory and my biggest concern with him is that he doesn’t seem to realize there’s a problem.
Is the offensive line hurting him? Of course and the idea of having such a young group of receivers sure looks like a bad decision.
Russell needs to understand that the quarterback has to be the most prepared guy on the team and has to take responsibility for the offense.
Russell has this false sense of entitlement from being the number one pick and the fact that the coaches deflect blame from him.
There have been several dropped passes this season but there have been more passes that couldn’t have been caught by a man on stilts and those poor throws are the fault of JaMarcus Russell and no one else.

Russell is a follower, not a QB
Anyone who says, Oh but I threw the ball where the other guy was supposed to be (understand: according to our drill and the game plan that I, with utmost effort, finally managed to memorize), is not a QB material. The QB is a leader capable of improvising with the changing conditions—and that’s exactly what Russell is not.

Let's do more sharing
Okay boys and girls, let’s remember where our team lives and plays, yes, that’s right, the PC capital west of New England. So, even if JR is disgraceful, we should not not be mean or discriminate with our criticism but distribute it fairly.
Okay, the Offensive line needs studs. When Oakland was great they had, first and foremost, a great Offensive Line. Today, measured against the great Oak-O-Ls it is weak.

So you're saying that it's not Russell's fault?
Or that he’s equally to blame.
Look I’d be less upset (but still upset) if he would take some blame. He’s a bad QB. He’s not ready to start. And now I’m not sure he ever will be.

Far from it
Mike, I like this site because the contributors seem to know something about my favorite spectator sport; and I’m genetically programmed to always be a Raider fan. But, we have to be objective. It is sooooo obvious that Russel is a tragic mistake, a failure on the part of Al Davis and whoever else is involved in making scouting/talent/acquisition decisions. But, with such an obvious (and recently ridiculous) situation, we can’t become blind to other systemic problems that the Raiders need to address. With few exceptions, great teams have great lines, on both sides, and if an offensive line is mediocre then a QB like Al’s (who might even have the potential to one day attain mediocrity) is hopeless.

Child Please
Just how many open receivers can this guy miss before you change your mind.I can honestly say I just want him gone. He shows a complete lack of effort and concern and has shown no improvement over the last 3 years, when he walks off the field do you ever see him talking to his coach or his fellow players? the answer is no.He just sits there with his stupid earrings and does not show any signs of leadership that the Raiders really need at this point.I can tell you i don’t think Brady,Manning or Brees would just sit there and sulk .Maybe this benching will change his attitude because he needs to make this his team for the Raiders to have any success.Everybody can blame his offensive line but they are not the ones who look unprepared for every game, over throw receivers ,and throw the ball late like he forgot where his receivers are or just can’t read NFL defenses. Its time to wake up and become a man you big slug or just act like you care come game time.Is it to late to bring Garcia back.He may not have Russell’s talent but he has a heart the size of Oakland and a competitive fire in his belly that Russell will never have and that is what is missing on the Raiders.

I agree Joe Montana would struggle with this offensive line
but hey the guy is 53 so I’m going to cut him some slack.

good one, although
I thought he was 16 …. but, most of us were, even JR, before he regressed back to 2.

Fake Riders
The problem is 98% of the Jajokes on this Jasite have never in their sissy lives played a down of cometitive football. What football player watches the Raiders and says “it’s all Jamarcus’ fault”, none. I won’t even try to explain the complex nature of a team sport, but you Monday morning Dilfer’s ( nowhere near a compliment chumps) need to sip your Natty Lights and shut the hell up. The comments about MY quarterback are based in intimidation, jealousy, and oh yes racism. The kid has produced outstanding numbers his whole life. He’s a natural. He holds state records, school records, conference accolades, I could go on. But he’s 6’5" and weighs more than ur wifes volkswagon, southern, African American, and would kick your bashin A$$ just as quick as look at you. His O-line is like the cast at Chucky Cheese’s, bunch o pansy’s in costumes. You CANNOT move the ball effectively if you are trying to avoid being PARALYZED on every snap. C’mon just swallow the kool-aid Dilfer and his arian brother Hassel-ho are serving, don’t regurgitate it to me. I have been a Raider all my life, and in the previous one, and I would never bash My Quarterback like the so called Raider Nation are doing Jamarcus. I am , always have been, and always will be a muth%^#F*@#$ Raider, and I know the tru nation feels me. I’m an ex o-line guard, and I’ll tell you like I’ve told many an D-lineman..“Get off my quarterback, or I’ll break your…..”
AND TO THE REAL RAIDER NATION…WIN LOSE OR TIE-RAIDERS TILL I DIE!

And where was it that you were an O-line guard at?
couldn’t have been in the NFL or else you would have led out with what team you were on to help try to make you point valid. And playing ball in high school and in college isn’t the same as the NFL. so I guess that would give you about as much validity to your point as ours even though some of us may not played before.
now it doesn’t take an einstein to understand the game of football. and it damn sure only takes someone with sight slightly better that Stevie Wonder to see many of his passes, even when he does have time to throw, are overthrown, underthrown, wide and to the side.
state records are all fine and dandy, when you’re still in high school. this is the NFL. i’m sure we all might now somebody from high school football that had a state record, but now hes working security at some night club cuz that’s really all his dumb ass can do.
don’t get shit fucked up, cuz i’m NATION through and through, 365 days.

Its not
being unraider like to call out your qb when he obviously doesn’t want to be good, he has relied on his size his entire life, but no matter how physical you are without the desire and work ethic you wont cut it in the NFL. Every time he comes off the field he sits by him self and puts his beanie on. He doesn’t inspire he teammates, that one run Gradkowski had where he ran for the first and got pumped up is exactly what Jamarcus isn’t, he isn’t a leader nor does he care enough. Its ‘a race issue nor is it that people here didn’t play football, I played ten years of football and I can tell you your qb has to be your leader, the team has to believe in you, you cannot put your self on and island and blame your teammates. Good qb’s take the responsiblity on themselves even when it isn’t their fault.

Till you die
Man,it’s only entertainment I have followed the Raiders for 40 years but as with a bad movie I leave when it stinks.I will always love the Raiders but as you know with Al being Al it’s kind of like listening to your crazy old uncle telling the same old stories all the time.We lost one coach because he thought Russell wasn’t ready he doesn’t seem so crazy now does he.And with Cable benching him yesterday he can’t be far behind.Russell was the wrong pick from the beginning and he hasn’t done anything to change my mind. This team will never move forward until a leader at QB position steps forward and unfortunately it is not Russell. When that changes I will be back but in the mean time does anybody want to buy a couple of tickets?

I Played Football Too...
…Russell just sucks, plain and simple. This doesn’t mean there aren’t udder ills with the team as well, but the fact is he has never been made to earn anything on this team, and I don’t he is capable. All the evidence the past 3 years has shown that. He was a project from the get-go, people forget that. Not all projects pan out – in fact, moost of them go down in flames. Time to cut our losses and right the ship. If he goes on elsewhere and earns himself a living, well then fair marks to him – but I don’t see it happening.
I’ve been a Raider fan all my life too, but that doesn’t mean I follow blindly and stupidly when the team makes a mistake. We’d still have Todd Marinovich at QB with that attitude. You can cry racism all you want too, but without anything behind that accusation, all it does is make you out as a crier.
Grow up dude. Yer favorite player has shown us bubkiss over the past 3 years. Football is a business, and the business is winning, not losing. Like it or not, fair or not, the QB, the supposed leader of the team, is the one to take the lion’s share of the accolades and the blame. And there is nothing but blame going around these days.

it's not Russell bashing
it’s how he actually is
Evey- "Are you a crazy person?"
V- "I'm quite sure they'll say so."

a rookie QB, no matter how talented he's supposed to be, MUST have the right coaching and team spirit in order to develop.
Knowing that the raiders have been on the loosing side for about 5 years, I believe that, for russel, transitioning to this kind of team that has had trouble with the GM, coaching, and player attitude, it’s A LOT harder to transition to this kind of team. If matt ryan was on our team, i think it’ll take him a lot more than half a season to become what he is now, and jamarcus would improve a lot more if he was on the Falcons of 08(or 07, just because they had vick on the team when russel was drafted).
