Take a page out of the niners book
Now I wrote up a little fanpost a few days ago, DRAFTING ANOTHER QB, NOT A GOOD IDEA, and I came across this article that adds a little more light to the debate.
This article talks about how Mike Singletary played it right by starting the season with Shaun Hill and has now shifted over to Alex Smith. It talks about him learning and shaping his game from what he saw on the sidelines of the veteran in the game.
That was one thing that we were all excited about this offseason. The signing of Jeff Garcia who was without a doubt a proven veteran. He was going to come in and help mold our "Qb of the future".
Obviously he saw that he was more there as an insurance policy for injury and not there to compete for the starting job. It was made clear to him, no matter what, Jamarcus was going to be the starter. A tough pill to swallow for any proven vet, later in his football years, with limited time left in the NFL.
This should have been a red flag waving that Garcia still had the drive to lead a team. He displayed he still had the ability in training camp. He definately had the tract record of leading the Bucs and Eagles before.
Not sure whether Gradko just had some regular season rust or what. He didn't have much more than JR in the Jets game. I will give him high marks for his enthusiasm and displays of leadership.
So I gotta ask you NATION, should the Raiders look into trying to get Garcia for the remainder of the season? I'm sure we could get him for pretty cheap. Cable has shown a glimpse of balls, maybe just the left nut, that he may be willing to bench JR. Hopefully with another subpar performance against SD, he might bench him again headed into the bye week.
Wouldn't this be a great time to come out of the bye week with a new life and a new leader at the QB position? Show JR that he is expendable and let him learn by example.

Russell just doesn't care to work on his game
so it doesn’t matter either way. He’s payed and that’s all that matters to him.

49ers' Quarterback Situation
It hasn’t been solved yet. Alex Smith looked good in one half against the Houston Texans. They were down 21-0. They had to throw the ball. The Texans had no game plan for Smith. Before we start calling Alex Smith this great quarterback, let’s wait and see him play a few games.
Anyway, it’s easy to go back and criticize us for not starting Jeff Garcia. We all knew that it wasn’t going to happen and the majority of us didn’t even want Garcia to start to begin with.

This all falls back on the coaching staff
We all know what Garcia can do. He has the great tract record of taking the Bucs and Eagles to the playoffs. He was a proven veteran and that’s why we signed him.
Are you trying to tell me it wasn’t known that JR was still at this stage in his development during training camp? What he has displayed this season in the games is exactly what he displayed in training camp. It was this bad then and that’s why Garcia wanted out. He could see that no matter how bad JR was, he was going to be the starter. Garcia should have been the starter for JR to continue to develop behind. Sure Garcia wasn’t the long term fix to this team, but he would have been a major asset to showing JR how to work and learn the game as an NFL qb.
No one is saying Alex Smith is a great qb after one good half of football. He did however look better than he ever did before. And it wasn’t just stats thrown up in garbage time. He brought that team back to an almost victory after being down by 21.

It has to do w/
Davis and not the coaching staff. Do you really think Davis wasn’t gonna have Russell start?

Cable.
That’s why Russell’s starting this week against SD. Do you really think Cable would put him in again or not have benched him a long time ago? I would think if it was truly up to Cable, once he and the QB coach start saying he’s going backward and needs to work harder, he would have came out of the game.

Good point!
We are only going as far as an 85 year old man can take an NFL team
