Jaawful Russell Must be Benched
Jamarcus Russell may be one of the biggest busts we've seen for a #1 draft pick in a long time. He was offered entirely too much money and is showing every week he's not worth half of it. Is it Al Davis that chooses to keep in Jamarcus each week when he has the lowest completion percentage of any starting QB in the league?
How on earth can you say Jeff Garcia is not the better QB for our team? Is it because we've offered Jamarcus too much money for him to ride the bench? Would you rather win games or lose them? The guy is under 40% on completions. That's just ridiculous. There's no excuse for this. Game after game we see Jamarcus throwing to the ground with wide open receivers.
It's not our offensive line. Yes our line isn't the best but the guy misses wide open receivers with or without time to look down field. The only player he seems to hit on target is Zach Miller. This upcoming week against the Giants proves to be just as painful as last week. Oakland will not see things turn around for the franchise until Al Davis stops trying to control things from his death bed.
It's time to pass the torch Al. You are no longer helping the team with your decisions. For Tom Cable's sake, I hope it's Al Davis keeping in Jaawful and not him. Turn him into a 70 million dollar fullback... the kid can block.

Another JaMarcus Russell Fanpost huh?
As far as JaMarcus being benched I would ask how does that help the Raiders? Bruce Gradkowski is not the answer to any question that has ever been asked so you might as well see if JaMarcus can find himself and improve.
This season is lost unless some sort of miracle happens sothe Raiders should use it to decide once and for all if JaMarcus Russell is a NFL quarterback.
One last thing about your post when it comes to the offensive line I disagree with you I think they’re awful. They don’t do a good job of opening holes for the running backs and JaMarcus has been under pressure quite a bit. Add in all the penalties and this line is well bellow average. Just one more thing that needs to be fixed.

Ur wrong about the line
most sacks are because he holds on to the ball too long and can not understand the timing of the passing game.
football works like this u take a three five or seven step drop when ur at the correct depth a reciever is supposed to be open based upon on ur pre snap read if they are not ur go through ur progressions which sholud take all of 1 sec to look at ur second and third option if nothins open u better throw the ball away or brace for impact cuz ur gonna get hit…
jamarcus can not do that he doesnt know how to read defenses to know where to go with the ball he cant call audibles cuz he cant read coverages so he cant get into a better play then when the ball is snapped he has shitty mechanics and cant make his drop quickly and get the ball out on target he is a lost cause get rid of him
listen oakalnd cant develop QB’s we need to sign veteran QB’s does everyone agree we cant develop one so dont look to Sam Bradford or tim tebow get a clue we gotta sign vick or campbell or anyone but not a rookie

I don't think I'm wrong about the line
but one thing is for sure I don’t need you explaining to me how football works. Get over yourself and by the way if you want your argument to be stronger consider spelling JaMarcus Russell’s name right.

when i post im not talking to anyone specifically
im trying to make an argument the way i see things i jsut happen to disagree about the oline when they were healthy i should have added since the injuries to Gallery and Green im def less impressed but thats football…
my point is this tho D Brees lost his left tackle and things just keep going right along in N.O it has alot to do with the QB play.. im not trying to be jerk ok im sorry u took it that way

Well it sure came across that way
but hey just because we disagree doesn’t mean we have to be disagreeable and I apologize if I went overboard in my response.
All that being said I still think this line is not a good group and while having Gallery back would make them stronger it’s not a great unit and I feel comfortable with that opinion.
The one area we do agree is that I’d like to see the Raiders bring in a veteran quarterback over another rookie next year if JaMarcus Russell doesn’t improve.
I’ve posted this before but in the 50 year history of the Raiders they have drafted and groomed one successful quarterback and that was Kenny Stabler.
This Raider team does not need more young players it needs some veteran guys who know how to play the game.
I don’t think Michael Vick is the answer though as his completion rate is only 53.7% which isn’t much higher than JaMarcus Russell’s 51.1%. You also have to factor in that Vick ran a variation of the West Coast offense in Atlanta so many of his passes were of the short variety.
Jason Campbell is a player I find more intriguing and there is a fair chance he’ll be available in the off-season.

our QB needs to change and the oline could use a RT
the thing about vick is that he ran a west coast offense like u said and that doesnt play to his strengths he needs to be in a vertical play action passing game just like campbell does.. and that is what we are supposed to be running here in oakland and i think we will eventually get there with time under the same coaching staff.. so i say keep the caoches and get rid of JR cause i dont see him improving and i dont like his attitude he threw his WR’s under the bus when addressing the NY media… thats not a leader…

You aren't going to get much of an argument from me defending Russell
but I still say give him the season to prove us all right or hopefully wrong about his talent.
You do bring up leadership and this is another area where I see Vick lacking. He lied to everyone for months about his actions and this shows bad character.
There are several reasons why no team brought Vick in to be their starter besides his lack of character and one of them is the fact that again he is not an efficient passer.
I know a lot of people think he would be a good fit for the Raiders offense because he has a big arm but I think Russell has proven how little that matters.
Maybe the thing the Raiders need to do is go back to the offense they’ve actually won with in the last 25 years and find another Rich Gannon.

But this is where Vick can show leadership
by putting this behind him, and moving on.
Rich Gannon was brought in by Gruden, I don’t think particularly goes for that kind of QB and offense.

Evaluate for the future.
As far as Russell, I think he should start every game this year. Why? Because my goal as a fan is to win a championship. Not compete, not make the playoffs, I want the fucking Super Bowl. We could win a couple more games with journeyman A or B, but where does that get us next year? Charlie Frye as our franchise qb? No Thanks. If JaMarcus is ever going to improve, its this year or never. He either will finally put it together (highly unlikely imo) or be what everyone to this point has said, a bust, and we cut our losses and move on.

O-Line
Almost forgot….to echo the poster’s sentiment above regarding the O-Line, I offer the following stats from last weeks game.
Houston Rush Defense: 32nd.
Raiders Rush Offense: 45 yds on 21 attempts.
Cherry picking stats? possibly. but god damn thats ugly.

it ain't gonna happen, dude, so get used to it
Jamarcus deserves much of the criticism he draws. The O line is dismal as a unit. Short of Henderson and Gallery, all could be on benches of other teams.

Reason #1: Garcia has been cut twice is still a FA
But when they start scheming us the way these guys did, and we weren't particularly ready for it, anything can happen."

It was a 2 week guaranteed cuz McNabb was out and Vick was still suspended.
