Why Do You Go To The Games?

I want to hear something from the people who actually go to the Raider games in Oakland...why do you keep going? Your continued presence at the games just helps to perpetuate what is happening on the field. If tickets keep selling, Al Davis won't see any real need to make any changes on the field.

Yes, I have noticed that there are empty seats at the stadium. Yes, I know that the games aren't selling out. That is, in my opinion, a step in the right direction. However, I still don't think that the seat vacancies and the blackouts have reached a level yet that will truly get the attention of Al Davis.  When Al shows up for a game and sees that the stadium is practically empty, then it may finally dawn on him that he needs to change his ways.

With all that said, why should I waste my time and my money to watch a team that refuses to make changes that would make it a competative team? Keep in mind this is not "fair weather fan" thinking. This isn't just about a team losing games. It's about an owner continuing to do the same things over and over that obviously don't work.  If it was obvious that Al Davis was doing everything he could to win, which included modernizing his offense and defense, then I would be there at the stadium with you watching the games, despite the losing record.  I refuse to go now because I don't want to support stupidity.

P.S. Please don't give me the old  "We have to keep showing support for our team!" garbage. That's enough to make me barf. The way this team is now, there is nothing the fans can do to help it. Even with the stadium packed, they still stink. Also, you can cut out all the ranting and raving about how I am not a true fan, either. I've been a Raider fan for 27 years, and have attended games in Los Angeles, Oakland, San Diego, and Seattle.  Just stick to the question...why do you go to the games? Why should I go to the games?

haha..jk..I only go to the big games…MNF..shit like that. But, people who still go are probably season ticket holders. Single fans who are bored. idk. It sucks when they black out cause then I cant see them on tv.

Would You Keep Eating at a Crappy Restaurant?

Well, would you? If Al Davis ran a restaurant, and he served crappy food, and continued to do so after hearing complaints about it, would you keep going to the restaurant?

Is the logic any different?

That's a very good

analogy.

Actually...

It’s friggin genius. No just food, but if you had a pissy waiter or waitress, you’d think twice about going back. Really good point, but then again, you can always go to another place to eat, not so easy with football.

Yes, if they change the chef, menu and some of the waiters

I would definitely go more. We’ve been only twice this season and, unless the waiter/QB and menu/game strategy are changed, I won’t subject the Sons and Daughter of Blanda through it any more this season.

Haven't been yet this year

And refuse to go until we produce a team capable of winning, not committed to excellence losing. They are beyond excellent losing.

That must be what the committment to excellence represents.

There is not enough local coverage

I decided to go to more games because of the blackouts. The added bonus is that if you love football, then you can enjoy the live game even more because you can see the whole field. Especially with a young quarterback and young receivers I wanted to see if Russell was just missing open receivers or if the receivers weren’t getting open. On short plays, I’ve learned that Russell isn’t making things happen quick enough, and when he tries to get the ball in there, his receivers keep getting clocked or he makes a big mistake. He is looking deep but missing other open receivers. He doesn’t see the double team. He throws short on wide open plays with little pressure in front of him.

The defense has been playing much better since the Houston and Giants games. They have heart.

Cable seems to be getting things done

He has made two changes in the middle of games so far. I’ve been there for both, and it wasn’t because the fans were booing. Cable is trying to save his job. He needs to show that it’s not his fault Russell sucks.

If Gradkowski is halfway decent, then the Raiders will be fun to watch because they have a much better defense these days and they can run the ball. All they need are a few pass plays. That’s what Cable is talking about when he says they are close.

You make a good argument

And it’s one that vast majorities of fans are agreeing with. Many have stopped showing up, to the point where it’s become just a very sad scene out there.

I go because I have tickets and it’s in my blood. But I have to say that this year really feels more hopeless than any before. In the past, I could look forward to a change—be it Shell and the B&B owner leaving or a new QB coming in. But right now, unless they just dump JaMarcus, I know nothing will change—just like all those fans who have stopped showing up know. So there’s really nothing to see, nothing to come watch right now. Yesterday’s loss just summed it up. A comically bad game between two bad teams.

Sbay is right, though. The defense has heart. They’re not nearly as bad as the general media who doesn’t see them makes them out to be. It’s just that the offense with JaMarcus is so historically bad that the game’s are just awful.

And the poor idiot seems to have no idea that he is putting up one of the very worst years by a quarterback in NFL history.

I've got to say it was totally hopeless with Aaron Brooks, an already failed FA pickup?

Rediculous. The Aaron Brooks days were hopeless. As soon as I hear about the signing, i new we would be starting over the next year. Again!!!

The preparation of the coaching staff this year is much better than years past. They picked up extra d-lineman, and have backup qbs that are probably better than the starter.

I don’t want to pound on Russell, but if you combine a long throwing motion with decision making deficiencies then you have Russell’s current situation. He can only benefit from more practice, weight loss, and looking safeties off for real – not just faking it.

Cable mentioned Frye today, who may actually be the best qb on the staff.
We have some tough games coming up, I could see us scoring a lot of points with Charlie Frye.

The Art Shell 2 era doesn't even count for me

That was the worst year of pro football ever. So sad.

Because I already paid for the seats

At 136 bucks a ticket it is ridiculous I totally agree. It is a garbage product (Defense not included).

However if the fans stop going it will be an automatic one way ticket for them to leave the Bay (and they won’t EVER come back)

I brought my 16 month old yesterday and we had a blast regardless of the fact the receivers cant catch. She cheered/clapped when everyone (those that actually went) did. Loved the anthem with actual jets. The staff in the club section went out of their way to make sure we enjoyed it.

So for those memories and pictures, I hand Al a credit card every year.
