How much blame is on Russell?

Signs of a bad quarterback. All season, Russell has been getting receivers clocked. JLH keeps getting clocked on slants. Murphy has been clocked a few times. On short throws he's so slow that the defense closes in and makes the backs drop the check downs. RUSSELL IS EXPOSING RECEIVERS TO HITS.

Russell needs to take responsibility for building the chemistry at the BEGINING of the game. All season Russell has been erratic with throws that are either high, behind or low. He's so erratic at the begining of games that he get's everyone out of whack.

DHB needs to be catching footballs day and night.

The blame is shared

The wide receivers certainly deserve their share of the blame, especially when the occasional accurate pass of Russell hits them right in the hands and then is dropped. This happens far too many times for professional football and is a good part of a major lack of confidence that the offensive players have in each other.

However, the problems that are Russell’s are problems of fundamentals, and for that there are no excuses. I blamed Russell’s fundamentals problems last year on the inexperience of the then QB Coach, John DeFilippo. Well, now Russell has the highly experienced, qualified and successful, Paul Hackett and if Hackett is unable to teach Russell the fundamentals, then nobody can.

Here is what Chiefs strong safety Mike Brown had to say about Russell:

“(Russell) has turned the ball over more than any quarterback in the league,” Brown said. “That’s something that we talked about (coming in). And usually he only looks at one side of the field; he doesn’t read the whole field.”

All the raw skills in the world won’t matter if the quarterback is just incapable of comprehending the game as a result of poor work ethic and low intelligence quotient, which unfortunately Russell has.

i believe that the receivers are just so surprised that the ball hits them in the hands that they don’t know what to do with it. russel is a dump, nuff said

I think there so many factor contribiting to our awful offence and JaMarcus is not soley to blame

he might have had a semi decent game today if the receivers could even catch in 3.
The one thing that is very disturbing about JaMarcus is his body language and the fact he shows zero emotion which is not good for a team deperate for him to be a leader. When Gradkowski was in the one thing that stood out was his energy and even though we werent really any more successful in terms of putting points on the board due to the drops, it at least looked like we we capable of moving down the field scoring.

The Blame is Shared, Version 2

Russell gets a good share of the blame, because he obviously stinks as a quarterback. But, Al Davis gets some of the share, too, because he insists on using offensive schemes that don’t work.

There is enough to blame to go around

but Russell isn’t trying. And he’s supposed to be the leader of the offense.

Cable should get most blame

He knows JR is unfit and continues to play him. And, if you argue, that he has to play this wretch because Al has his signature on one of his Faustian contracts, then he’s even more blameworthy for selling out from the start. Russell is Al’s nemesis b/c Davis is too proud to mitigate his mistake or even admit there was poor judgment – plus he’s banked everything on JR and harbors a demented hope. Cable, who I believe to be (still) sane, should have known this coming into it.

Too hard to tell about blame between the three of them, but among just the players?

I’ve been to three games. It seems that Russell starts the game with little slants in traffic that rattle the receivers mentally right at the begining of games.

I wanted to give Russell the a fair chance this year.

by Sbay on Nov 16, 2009 1:06 PM PST reply actions   0 recs

I have trouble blaming the receivers

because under no circumstances should starting two rookie receivers, let alone one receiver, be your primary option for receiver. Especially not a junior who’s college coaches said wasn’t even ready to enter the NFL, and the #2 receiver at Florida with the talent of a 6th. round pick. It’s not their fault that they were forced to start when they’re nowhere near ready.

But Russell holding onto the ball too long, fumbling repeatedly, making too many bad reads, not reading defenses, trouble checking down and evading pressure. Oh plus he can’t throw half way accurate to save his life.

It's impossible for me to believe

that the vote isn’t unanimous. What are those other 8 people watching. The question was who deserves the most blame.

It isn’t close if you’re talking about the players.

Russell has been horrible all season. All career really. He is completely incapable of leading the team down the field. The only games he gives you a chance to win are by the scores of 13-9 and 13-10. And he isn’t the reason those are wins. In the first KC game he was awful. And in the Eagle game he had one lucky play and then he had his best drive of the season throwing and, yes, running for a field go toward the end of the second half against the Eagles.

If fact, that drive against the Eagles along with the last drive in KC #1 are the only drives he’s really led all year—in nine fucking games. And the KC drive was aided by a huge penalty. Gradkowski led a drive at the end of the game yesterday, the kind of drive JaMarcus is completely incapable of.

He gives us zero chance to win.

And the Sbay’s point about the receivers and running backs dropping balls is a great one. There would be far fewer drops with another QB. The timing and ball speed/placement on dump-offs is typically awful. And receivers can have no faith where the ball is going to be, so their heads must be a collective mess.

Has DHB been tragic? Of course he has. Does Louis Murphy drop too many balls? Of course he does. But the contribution of those two to our awfulness is about 1/10 of JaMarcus.

The best thing we could possibly do is release him today. He gives us, and will obviously never give us, any chance to win.

If you’re like me and you have watched every game the last two-plus years, then you know this is true.

It can't all be Russell's Fault for the offense

If it was than we should be breaking runs for TD’s on every carry

Wake me up if we win

hard to do that when you have no passing game to open up the run game

we have also had virtually no run game to open up the pass game

Running Game

It’s better now with the return of Robert Gallery. Bush and Fargas combined to run for 160 yards on about 24 carries yesterday. Getting a competent quarterback will only help our rushing attack.

I think this loss is DHBs fault

Damn I was watching the game and I was kinda rooting for Raiders to pull it off since my brother Is a big time raider fan. Russell did his part he was leading them down field but who messed it up. DHB! wow, kid gots no hands. He needs to practice ALOT or do something cuz he can’t catch a ball consistenly. What’s top line speed if you can catch the ball to begin with? Well hope next game is better for you guys. Niners have been in quite a few games were we lost a heart breaker so I feel your guys pain.

you must not have been watching very closely because Russell wasnt even in the game

my bad it was gradkowski. but anyway it was DHBs fault regardless

well if you dont even know russell got benched

which is a pretty major detail of the game you were supposedly watching, i would suggest your synopsis of said game is unlikely to be very reliable.

The backs

the backs can’t get scared to get hit especially, in this league. If they could catch those they wouldn’t waste a down and get at least a few yards.
