Running Back Situation
What to do, what to do...
Michael Bush: Most promising back right now. Tough, old-school runner with soft hands. Should start.
Justin Fargas: Crash dummy. Runs hard every play. McFadden could learn from him (not the injury part).
Darren McFadden: Most explosive one here. Basically Reggie Bush in Silver and Black (Wait, that's an insult to Reggie). Needs to get ball in space (KR, PR, WR).
Gary Russell: HB/FB cross. Short-yardage man. Needs more opportunities.
Overall, one of the better, if confused, RB situations in the league.
So, who should start?

Its getting old..
People continue to say the Darren needs to return kicks and punts. It takes more than just pure speed to return the ball. I do agree with you other evaluations. And McFadden should see more time at slot. But he needs to learn to catch better also.

Michael Bush
is the easy answer. I still don’t understand why Cable wasted 10 rushes that could have gone to Bush on Fargas.
by sirbed on Nov 17, 2009 4:42 PM PST reply actions 0 recs
wasted?
Fargas is the hardest runner out there and on a normal day where bush doesn’t get a 64 yarder, fargas has a better yards per play average and is kinda like frank gore where he keeps pushing with his legs for more yards

i'd rather have
mcfadden as the starter with bush as the #2. and fargas as the 3rd down back.
My reason for mcfadden is that he has that explosive factore that the other backs don’t have as much. I remember mcfadden getting 20-30+ yards whenever he finds a good hole(okay, he doesn’t get 20+ yards EVERY time he finds a hole), and we also need to start running wildcat plays, that i think better suit mcfadden. We just need to have better blocking for our RB’s.

or fargas as the #2, and bush as the 3rd down back.

Darren McFadden can't stay healthy or run up the middle
and as far as 30+ yard runs his long run for the season is 15 yards.
Michael Bush is a bull and the type of power running back you can build an offense around.
Michael Bush 4.5 yards per rush career
Justin Fargas 4.1 yards per rush career
Darren McFadden 4.0 yards per rush career
I still hope McFadden can become a good 3rd down back who can catch the ball coming out of the backfield but Bush is the better player in my opinion.

i guess i was thinking of last year then.
he hasn’t found too many holes this season either. It seems like people can stop our running game pretty well as well. Better run blocking will be much help.
And yeah, mcfadden has been injury prone, and i have no problem(at all) with bush as the starting RB.

saboteur
Bush and Fargas; let McFadden mature (Hah!)
p.s. these two have the Raider spirit of old

Bush
he’s a faster and more elusive Jamal Lewis.
I’m actually thinking we should trade McFadden. He goes down if you just touch him, often tripping over his own two feet. he struggles to fight for tough yards and will fall backwards on nearly every play. needs to become a much stronger tougher runner. Until then he’s pretty useless since he just goes down far too easily to be useful.
We could definitely get good value out of him and there’s plenty of speedy running backs to draft/sign.

If we trade him...
What would you want for him.? And I dont think we need a speedy half back..Just spit carries with Michael Bush and Justin Fargas.. With Bush getting a majority of the carries.

I don't know how much trade value McFadden would have in the off-season
my guess would be not much since he can’t stay healthy.
I agree with you Remix that Michael Bush should get the majority of the carries as he gives the Raiders their best chance to win.

Trading McFadden
I think it’s something we should look into. Then again, with where we’re at, all possible options should be explored.

Yep Mr.RRS
any of these players should be moved if it would help the team get better.
Hey what do you think the Raiders could get for Russell? Maybe a bag of used socks or a case of the swine flu.

H1N1
Warriors guard C.J. Watson has it, so it’s already in the neighborhood.

Your Warriors can't catch a break
I can’t believe my Kings are off to a 5-4 start especially since Kevin Martin is hurt (again).

Seriously
We played with seven guys tonight. Eight are injured. We suited up Raja Bell to avoid the forfeit and he’ll probably join Kelenna Azubuike in the “out for season” category. I’m just glad Stephen Jackson is gone for good. We really hung with Cleveland all night, though.
The Kings should maybe look into trading Kevin Martin. Tyreke Evans is so much more comfortable playing with a point guard instead of trying to be one. Congratulations on being .500 for the first time in three years.

Trade Kevin Martin???
He can only beifeit the team. He scores an easy 20-30 points a night. Hes young and doesnt complain about playing in Sac

Chemistry
The team is flowing really well without him. Him being young, not complaining and being a great scorer is why he has value and you need to trade something decent in order to get something decent in return in most cases.

Kevin Martin can score but if you can't stay healthy
what good are you? I’d still like to see Evans and Martin on the court together for more than a few games before I form an opinion on whether or not it’s a good idea to trade Martin.

could have used martin tonight
I don’t think Martin should start. \starters should be able to play good defense.

Mcfadden
Mcfadden is a great player. All running backs except for a few exceptions like Jones-Drew, need a good team around them to do good. Look at LT, he is fading away in his career but has a great line and a good QB who can make good throws and set him up so he can run it well

McFadden
He hasn’t proven to be a great player. He’s been pretty average thus far with too many injuries.

Overall I have been very disappointed with McFadden
I was very excited when we drafted him and then for him being healthy this year (ha!) and we have really only had three decent games that I can remember (KC, Houston and Denver last year) Bush has proven to be a far more consistent back in the same time frame. I also have really liked the way Fargas has run and sets a good example for how the whole team SHOULD play. At this point I would probably use McFadden as a utility player and get him more involved in the short passing game which at this stage is where he is most effective.

i think they should use mcfadden
in wildcat formations.

Exactly-
It’s what he’s good at, and we already know that you don’t have to have a strong line to support that type of play. Daivs will never go for it because it’s not “football”.
And to address the rest of the comments— you can’t run 100+ yards a game if the defense knows your QB will miss 60% of his passes and can’t hit a target more than 10 yards away.

thats a load of rubbish
plenty of good RB’s have had 1000 yard season’s on teams that cant throw, look at Peterson didn’t always have Farve he had Tavaris Jackson for the start of his career, look at Barry Sanders putting up numbers for the Lions all those years. I’m not saying I expect McFadden to be AD or Barry Sanders (although the raps out of college would have suggested so) but it is very possible for RB’s to have success on bad teams and happens regularly.
Regardless of that fact McFadden hasn’t even been the best back on this team and Bush and Fagras both have the same disadvantages as he has.
