Raiders, Alameda County Joint Powers Authority Agree to Extend Lease

According to David White of the San Francisco Chronicle, the Oakland Raiders and the Alameda County Joint Powers Authority have agreed to extend the Oakland-Alameda County Coliseum lease through the 2013 season.

That means the Raiders won't (likely) be returning to Los Angeles after next season when their current lease is set to expire.

Could this be the home of an NFL team in the future?
[via latimesblogs.latimes.com]

There's always some rumblings around the league concerning an NFL franchise moving to Los Angeles. The Raiders are usually somewhere atop the list having played in Los Angeles from 1982-1994. Recently, Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger (R-CA) signed a bill to help speed up construction of an NFL stadium in the San Gabriel Valley; however, it doesn't appear that the Raiders are heading there at least not until the new lease is up after the 2013 season.

Great news (nice for a change) about the Raiders

They belong in Oakland and if they get their act together the fans will come.

The Raiders belong in Oakland

and else would take them right now anyway, given their current state and Davis’s history of being less than ideal to work with.

Onto the next item: a new stadium!

Only dull people are brilliant at breakfast.

The Raiders better stay in Oakland

I could never support them if they moved to LA.

Fans in Oakland will support the team. There just needs to be a better product on the field. Even a .500 team sounds good!

many of us did (and would)

… went to two or three games when they played at USC. Btw, are you a Raider or an Oakland fan?

I'm an OAKLAND Raiders fan

I followed the Raiders when they went to LA, and I celebrated when they won the ‘84 Super Bowl. But my interest in them declined over time. In part, it was because that was the pre-internet age and it was hard to get news about them. But a big part was dealing with the fact they chose to leave Oakland. If they ever leave Oakland again, I’ll cut them out completely. I’m a season ticket holder, and as much as I hate what’s going on right now, I wont’ give up my tickets because I’ve got great seats and I hope to outlive Al Davis. If nothing else, I’d like my unborn grandchildren to see a great Raiders’ team in the future. The Raiders belong in Oakland. Its part of their identity. I’ve been to most of the games since they came back and I know how great the fans are. Give us some hope, and you won’t see better fans anywhere else in any other sport.

Yeah, that's what you say now

But you’re a Raider fan so you’ll be one after they run off again. The Raiders are like a bad woman who you’ve fallen for – there’s no getting over her. A whore basically.

And just like a whore

She keeps taking my money and breaking my heart! But I swear I’ll give her up. I really will. I mean it. If only we didn’t have that long history together. And if only I wouldn’t keep thinking about the good times. Then it wouldn’t be so hard.

Im touched...

Its like were Forrest Gump, and and Oakland is Jenny. She teases us by coming back every now and then. Then leaves the next day only to throw us into a spiral of depression and ping pong

Other Teams Moving

The Buffalo Bills might move to Toronto. Jacksonville is on a short leash. And were sadly in the talk. I dont want us to leave Oakland. Its a bummer were stuck in Mcaffee for 4-5 more years. I thought a New Stadium could help team morale and ticket sales.

"Toronto Bills" doesn't work

The Honolulu Raiders isn’t too hot either, but at least I’d consider moving there.

Honolulu?

Is that a real option the NFL is considering?

No but according to your picture you ARE the POPE!

Well that help arrived wearing #5

and as distasteful as his being a Catholic must be to you, you still accepted his help. You know, Bruce reminded me yesterday of Joe Montana, not because their both Catholic, but in their similar intensity and confidence. I know you would accept Bruce eventually, you’ve accepted Seabass, after all.

It's best if they stay here, but

if they move I’m still a Raider. BUT, if they ever change from silver & black – it is over and finished.
