Tom Cable Talks About JaMarcus Russell
Over at SF Gate there's an interview with Tom Cable about the QB switch.
Tom Cable stresses the point that he's not giving up on Russell:
Q: You still see JaMarcus as the future of this football team?
A: "That's my hope. This is in no way giving up on the guy. This is just trying to jumpstart this team and really break it down and make a decision based on what gives us the best chance to win.
About why Gradkowski:
Q: Why Gradkowski over Russell?
A: "Just felt like he would give us the best chance to win, and we need to get to playing better offensively and win football games."
Q: What does Bruce bring to the table?
A: "I just think his leadership, his management, understanding of what we're trying to do, accuracy. Just a lot of those intangible-type things, and give him a chance to get all the reps and go out and build some chemistry with the receivers."
And about the duration of the switch:
Q: Will you go week to week with this?
A: "No, I don't want to be like that. This is where we're headed and what we're gonna do, and he'll take this team and go with it."
And a little hint what he expects of Russell during this:
Q: You want JaMarcus up there on the sideleines talking with you and Bruce during the game?
A: "Absolutely. And he will. That's the one thing I know about the guy, is he's strong that way and he will get through this. And that's why I said, I believe he has a bright future."
And how hard it was to make this decision:
There are other questions also. Click on the link above to read the full article.Q: Did you agonize over this decision?
A: "It was an easy decision because I feel the responsibility for this football team to give them the best chance to succeed."

Why...
Why arent you ripping on the Twitter post yet. I would actually agree with you this time if you did. But I dont know why Tom isn’t saying whats on his mind. Hes not speaking the truth. I know he wants to call JR a dumb, fat and talentless waste of a pick.

Well because he can't.
And why should I rip on the twitter post? That’s what goes for good posting around here.

Oh..
So noontide’s post wasn’t a good post. That Twitter post is about as helpful as parpelligic marathon runner.

It should have
been in fanshots. There was nothing news worthy about a his post. Just some admittedly clever nonsense.

I felt the most telling thing in Cable's comments was:
Q: What does Bruce bring to the table?
A: “I just think his leadership, his management, understanding of what we’re trying to do, accuracy. Just a lot of those intangible-type things, and give him a chance to get all the reps and go out and build some chemistry with the receivers.”
In other words, these are the things that Cable is tired of Russell not bringing to the table. That’s not that bad though that leaves Russell with what? Arm strength and…bling…oh and wicked spin moves.
I would love to know what went into this in order for Davis to be ok with it. Had he just had enough? Did JaMarcus really do something like I imagined in A Day in the Life? Or did Cable talk him into it?
How do you get copied sections to come out in the gray highlights like that?

I try to help the guy
and explain how to use the quote feature but the site is uncooperative. Who knew I had to break out the regular expressions to just make a simple comment? (if you’re not a computer nerd you may not get that)

In a way, I can dig the way Tom cliches his way through it all, and sometimes I just want guys to say what they want to say
regardless of the consequences. But most NFL coaches, and many other who know their way around how their public images work and what to say and what not to say, Some guys do it with class, some less so, and others just plain don’t give a fuck.
I think one important aspect to remember about Cable is that despite the dance he’s doing that his other five predecessors did orchestrated by Al, we kinda know what to expect from the guy. It’s pretty obvious he shouldn’t be calling plays. He does seem to have the team behind him, and has had them behind him for most of his tenure, even during the interim period. It’s pretty clear his days are numbered, if not for one reason then there are many others. Let’s hope he can salvage something with Bruce starting, that our guys can catch fucking balls-lest we start calling them wide droppers, that the offense offers up enough help to show how good our defense can really be, and that that will utimately give us a few solid pieces to build a foundation for the future when the time comes again to find a new leader for the Raiders. Pray he’s the right guy.
Interesting interviews with Bruce Allen about coaches on Late Hits on Sirius Radio last couple nights. Sorry, no link, but you might find it if you log in online for free trial or if you already have sirius/xm radio. He says all those things a team needs a coach to be and what you do when you find one (letting Gruden go for whatever reason when we did was the beginning of the downfall) from a GM’s perspective, and it all hits home pretty hard for the Raider Nation.
I’ll be happy if our receivers catch 65% of balls thrown at them this week (that’s ones not defensed, of course, the ones we’ve been dropping the fuck out of lately!!!). I don’t care about anything else. I want to have wide receivers on the team again. You know, those guys that line up on the flanks? They don’t block usually. Generally really athletic, fast guys that can get open and the quarterback looks to throw them the ball?
We haven’t had three guys who can do that for awhile, so forgive me if I take time to spell out what it is they do—catch the balls that are thrown to them. No shit! Most of the time, guess what? it results in a first down! Sometimes for a gain well into the double digits and even for scores! Amazing what that can do for your run game too.
This team might not be bad if we got us some o’ them receiver guys, a whole crew of them. Not bad at all…

Receiving 101
Indeed, Fred Biletnikoff is sorely missed. The fact that Bey, Murphy et al. have made some really impressive receptions at all indicates their potential. “What we have here is failure to concentrate” (cf. Cool Hand Luke).

These guys will come around
But damn they sure can drop some balls right now! They’re amazing droppers! Spectacular.
Can you say stickummm!!!!! Fred might’ve been as bad as these kids without that shit! They said he had an advantage in every game, because he caked the stickumm on his chins and shoes, and when he ritually puked before every game, his chunder stuck to his stickumm and nobody wanted to go near him!
And I swear I saw him catch balls with the backs of his hands…

Stuck to the Vomitorium ...
we go Sunday!
Good point about Fred (/Lester) quirk. … your imagery of Fred’s chunder mixture is virtuoso.

I've just been watching college highlights of JaMarcus
He really looks phenomenal and i know remember why I was so excited when we drafted him really one of the most impressive college QB’s I can remember.
The biggest thing that stands out is his weight, he just looks great in college and was consistently accurate, he has all the tools to be great but something has gone sorely wrong with him. I am positive we have not seen the last of JaMarcus but he absolutely MUST use the rest of the season to learn as much as he can and get in the gym and lose some of the weight that is clearly literally weighing him down.
If I were cable i would get his fat ass running around on special teams a little bit for the rest of the season, a few tackles and blocks would be more helpful and conducive to winning than what he has done so far and we might get some value for our money, he might also loose some weight running around a bit more and teach him some work ethic.

He’s finally coming into his own and doing well.
Give up McFadden.

Yeah I was thinking about mcfadden
We could probably fleece the cheifs out of bowe and something else for mcfadden. The only reason I said huff was based on mcfaddend upside if he can ever stay healthy or upright

This is for the media
and nothing to do with reality. The Raiders don’t gain anything by telling it straight out, the russell is a bust. This is marketing strategy nothing else. I would expect more sophistication from the Nation and it’s ability to read between the lines.
