Raiders defense finally gets some help from the offense

Jerry McDonald has an article over at Mercury news that praises our Defense:

And while Gradkowski's victorious debut in place of JaMarcus Russell, as well as a 10-point burst in a span of 18 seconds, will be the dominant storylines in handing the surprise leaders of the AFC North their third loss of the season, this win was made possible by the Raiders defense.

On the 40 snaps following their second touchdown, Cincinnati's offense gained 150 yards, scored three points, punted four times and had a turnover. Bernard Scott gained 61 of those yards on a single running play. Minus that big play, the Bengals had 89 net yards on 39 snaps.

Strong safety Tyvon Branch had a monster game with 12 tackles, a sack, two tackles for losses and a pass defensed. With defensive cornerstone Richard Seymour out since the early first quarter with a lower back strain, Jay Richardson stepped in with six tackles and a tackle for loss.

And had it not been for the late touchdown and gift fumble, the defense would have gone unrewarded, as it was seven days before when a Gradkowski-to-Darrius Heyward-Bey pass turned into a Chiefs interception.

The Raiders had a total of 11 tackles for negative yardage.

The Raiders brought more and different types of pressure than they have since a 13-9 win over Philadelphia.

The Bengals burned the Raiders on blitzes on a handful of early plays, as well as on Scott's 61-yard run, and they never turned off the spigot and went conservative.

``When they open up the playbook and let us change things up, you can see the difference,'' Branch said.

Yeah, I have to agree, Mike always brings it and backs it up with facts

a handful of us have been echoing how great this defense can be if we just got a little help, and lo and behold, against a very powerful offense I might add.

It’s funny because people have given you a hard time for sounding negative, but how else are we supposed to sound if we were taking a realistic, good, hard look at the season? I love that Tyvon commented on being given some freedom. It speaks volumes coming from him. Huge game from 33 this week. Gradkowski, Murphy, Schilens, the entire line.

Watching them march down the field on the first couple drives was painful tho.

Our Goal line defense is good

Well not this game but a few others they were amazing like the one vs Denver I was there and they held them out until forth down but, they need to finish. I also saw some more blitzing and the pass coverage showed up after the 1st Quarter of the Bengals game I was sure it gonna be like a 500 pass yard day for Palmer. Dam 500. I don’t think the raiders have made it past 300 pass yards in a game right?

Wake me up if we win

Just read this on insidebayarea.com
Heyward-Bey was one of the first players to greet fellow rookie Murphy after his game-tying touchdown with 33 seconds left. “All I could hear him keep saying was, ‘I love you man, I love you man,’” " Murphy recalled Monday “The wind had gotten knocked out of me. I couldn’t do anything but lay there.” A week earlier, Heyward-Bey dropped two passes that could have changed the complexion of the game in a 16-10 loss to the Kansas City Chiefs. Murphy consoled Heyward-Bey at the time and afterward, as well. “I have great teammates,” Murphy said. “Especially going through this with Darrius; we’re both rookies, I have his back, he has my back.”

I love hearing this sort of stuff about this team, hopefully with an experienced QB they get a chance to grow and when JaMarcus gets another chance in a year or two they will be good enough to carry him where he is clearly not ready to carry them at the moment.

Yeah, it's no biggy.

Posting actual articles is even worse when quoting.

But none the less, as long as what we want to say makes it to the site, who cares? Right?

I know this is an offense related post

but can I also give a shout out to Nnamdi getting his first INT of the season, Well deserved although maybe slightly questionable bit it’s about time things started going our way!

Yeah I think that was RRS

unbelievable stat! Teams have gone at him a little bit more the last couple of weeks but an outstanding player and leader for this team, I was so happy when he re-signed I didn’t think he would but Al pulled it off ;) as I suspect he will with Seymour this off-season.
