Gradkowski is the future!!!!
I am so sick of hearing how Bruce Gradkowski is not the future of this foootball team. Why because he is a 6th round pick out of Toledo where he threw for over a 65 percent completion perecntage ill have you know. The only thing that matters in this league in my opinion is accuracy and decision making. He can obvioslty throw a catchable ball and his decision making while isnt perfect I think will get better because he is coachable and works very hard.
This is a young man who has the support of the team and while he might not be a physically gifted player like Russell has what it takes to succeed, In all honesty he reminds me of a young Jeff Garcia. At the very least he has earned the right to play out the season.
If you have a better idea as to what the QB position should look like then i wanna see what you think in the comments section.

There should be a
“Now hold on a minute, it’s only one game” option.
While I agree he’s better than Russell, we played one game. He was really really pumped up being his first start and didn’t want to disappoint. We have a short week til we play on Thanksgiving.
Now, that said. I think Grad will do good as we finish the season. I think our Defense won’t be as tired and will be pumped up. I think our offense will be pumped up. And I think he did a great job in the Cinc game. His numbers weren’t great, but he pulled out plays that mattered, and that’s what counts. And he could help our WR’s develop.
I’m not trying to be negative here, just cautious. Some of us called the Philly game a turning point, and I want to be careful using that word here too.
Win, Lose, or Tie, Raiders til I die!
Totally agree
I think the main thing I have noticed it seems like the whole perception of the Raiders has changed overnight and getting a lot of positive coverage for the first time I can remember in ages and it really does seem like more people are agreeing that things are headed in the right direction (although I have championed this cause for a while) now that Gradkowski is at QB.
The players have been absolutely glowing in their praise for how he comes to work (although the bar is set pretty low) and everybody seems significantly more confident and did so from the moment he was made starter. That can all change pretty quickly with a few or with the fragile psyche of this young team, one bad performance so to say he is the future is way to premature but he looks comfortable and it is definitely not impossible.

It's definitely a step in the right direction.
And we gotta keep up the Defense plays we’ve been calling. Blitz and pressure. Look @ the philly game. We were in McNabb’s face and he was all types of confused. Then the jets game, no blitzing, and look at that score.
Win, Lose, or Tie, Raiders til I die!
step in the right direction it is
and we definitely have to mix it up on D, I think another step in the right direction is that the coaches seem to be making the changes that need to be made positionally and in the game plan and they obviously have the trust of Mr Davis and I don’t care what anyone says the roster he has put together deserves him some credit.

With the slightest qualification
I agree wholeheartedly. The reservation I have is the criteria being used to select players, i.e. hard metrics and opinion polls vs.character and a deeper understanding of how a player compiled their metrics.

say, 3 bouncing it around and persuading.to a consensus.
I know, Al has veto power, so Al must be ultimately be persuaded about who comes in.

NO never ever will he be
Gradkowski will never be the future for this franchise our future is somewhere in this years draft.
by GeorgeakaFROSTY on Nov 24, 2009 7:37 AM PST reply actions
BUT.....
Gradkowski sticking around and mentoring a QB we pick in say the 3rd round?
Maybe not the long off future, but the immediate future, maybe it could work.
But again, let’s hold off on this til we see how he does on a short week on enemy turf.
Win, Lose, or Tie, Raiders til I die!
I think especially after the success Alex Smith
and Vince Young (although he had success as a rookie) JaMarcus will sit but he will still be a Raider and will eventually by given another shot.

I think he deserves a shot at the starting job next year
though I’d like to see Campbell come in as a FA to compete as well.

my problem with campbell is this
he holds the ball too long … just like russel the most impressive stat to me about gradkowski is no sacks with the same o line as before he has a rythymn like a clock internally if its not out on time he wants to get rid of it or scramble either way its not a negative play..thats what i like also i dont wanna draft another QB in next years draft i think that would be a big mistake just my opinion but we could use a good MLB… rolando mclain anyone?

What DIFFERENCE can it really make...
Somewhere back in the annals of History, the Raiders were a very successful football franchise…Yes just 10 short years ago you were SuperBowl contenders, and for all the hope and promise that you had , it came to NOTHING…Today you so called football FRANCHISE has become the dumping bowl for all other teams rejects…Your the GRAVEYARD for the “used to be greats”…Every so often your team surprises the NFL with glimpses of that once great football franchise, and then for another ten years, ten games, your right back to being the sorry bottom feeders that you always are these days…
Take for instance the game coming up Thursday…Did you know that this will be the very first time we have ALLOWED you to play us in Dallas?…There has been a very, very good reason for this and it is plain and simple…We do not even consider you worthy opponents…But this year, to show that we have the Grace, CLASS, and good-naturedness of a truly elite FootBall team, we have relented and will allow you to come to our GREAT and Glorious city, and to have your asses kicked by our Cowboys…It is not the most generous offer we could make but hey you guys are really NO BIG DEAL for the Cowboys…So mplease once you have been beaten by the Cowboys it would be a very generous action, if you would leave quickly and quietly(youll probably want to do that considering the fact that your asses will have just been beaten by the Dallas Cowboys)..
So I must ask you again…Will it make any difference on Thanksgiving Day this year, wether you will “crown” Gradkowski you “franchise QB?”…I really could care less, because even with good QB you will still be a bottom tier team…You guys are not even in the running anymore for a WC, so if you want my opinion, Hell Id just give up, throw in the towel and walk away, NOW…What have you really, really got to lose anyway?…Pride?…youve NEVER had any of that…Your integrity…Nope again…how about a sense of loyalty to your community, and the commitment you have made to your fans…Nope, seen to many black-outs for me to consider that a reason for your still stubborn act…Could be you guys like the ass whippings that most teams bring to you?…could be you guys like picking almost first every year in the draft…maybe, maybe not…
One thing is for sure, and I will tell you this right now…“You dont have a whores chance getting to heaven, of beating the Cowboys…While the Cowboys are 7-3, you guys true to form are sucking the sludge of the NFL teams…You guys have never won a ROAD game in so long against a winning team its amazing we havent heard the oh so beckoning peal of your eventual complete collapse..So again I ask you…”What difference does it make whom you make QB of the future…When your QB of a nothing team thats what your career will end up resembling…NOTHING
Anyways, aside from those precious words of encourage ment I want to wish everybody a Happy Thanksgiving…FEAR THE STAR

We've beaten you goatroapers an average of 2 out 3 over the decades
We have a fairly young team and our record is deceptive. Anyway, deeds not words. Thank you for making me even more anxious for kickoff.

Really....
…and to think I was told that Cowboy fans were moronic, idiotic scumbags who deserve to suck on their own filth for following a classless, over-rated franchise that hasn’t played in a meaningful game since 1995. Cud I point out that the Raiders are historically 6-3 vs the Cowboys, or did you cowventiently forget that. Go back to Dallas, brainless troll.

Gee your elite franchise hasn't won a playoff game since 1996
during that time the awful Raiders have won 4 playoff games and made a Super Bowl. I know several Cowboys fans and I can say they all have a lot more class than you do…oh and Happy Thanksgiving.
Tour right SOB...
Your record is indeed deceptive…it denotes that you are better than a few other NFL teams…to put it in perspective again, I would say that your record, considering the teams that youve baten this year should rank you atop something…but what that something is IS NOT an NFL football Division…something a little less tasteful comes to mind, but I will let you cipher that out…FEAR THE STAR…btw, Nice nick-name…creates for suggestive writing…

You lose me when you start talking about college stats
as I’ve posted before Russell completed 68% of his passes his senior year at LSU which by the way was against much better competition then Gradkowski faced at Toledo and I think that proves that what a guy did in college doesn’t matter in the NFL.
I’m with mikesd1981 on having the “hold on it’s just one game” option on this subject. I’m happy Gradkowski played well but one game is just one game so let’s see where we are after Thursday and in the weeks to come.
Grad has not shown me enough to think he is anything, but a below average starter.
I thought he struggled with his accuracy and decision making at times last week. He also doesn’t seem to have a very impressive deep ball, which probably dooms his chance of being a long term Raider starter. I think the reason he looked good last week was because he is following JaApathy.
I have no problem with him being the starter the rest of this year and being in the mix for next, but in no way to I look at Grad and think the QB position on this team is settled.
Only dull people are brilliant at breakfast.
Gradkowski
Grad has not shown me enough to think he is anything, but a below average starter.
Well, it can be hard to make an opinion after just one game. I thought he looked pretty decent and clearly gave us a chance to win, in which he did. Also, as noted in this article, Gradkowski has the ability to hit wide receivers and that’s something JaMarcus Russell clearly struggled with.
A 25-yard completion to Chaz Schilens set up the Raiders’ first touchdown drive late in the second quarter. A 7-yard catch by Darrius Heyward-Bey resulted in a first down and kept alive a drive that culminated with a field goal.
On the game-tying drive, Gradkowski connected with Schilens for 16 yards on fourth-and-10 and followed that up with a 29-yard touchdown pass to Louis Murphy two plays later.
Murphy said he and his receiver mates jelled with Gradkowski quickly, even though they were playing a full game together for the first time this season.
Over time, that can only improve. While I don’t know if he’s the quarterback of the future, he’s clearly the best one we have on the roster. He has six games left to prove that he can stick around as the starter.

In no way was I trying to say he should not be the starter on this roster.
No where was this more evident then on the tying TD Pass where Grad and Murphy actually adjusted to the way the D was playing and hooked up on a back shoulder throw. This kind of chemistry was just not there with Russell.
The assessment of Gradkowski as an NFL QB has a lot more to draw on then 1 game. Gruden dumped him in Tampa because he didn’t have the accuracy. he was hitting %54 of his passes in a west coast style offense that allows QB’s to have high completion percentages.
I also think he has a tendency to force throws. He has thrown a pick on %.037 percent of his throws, which is not good.
Again I think he should be the starter for the rest of the season and I think he is a solid back-up, but I think he is a below average NFL starter and he has not shown anything to suggest that will change. He simply doesn’t have the accuracy to excel in a west coast style, the feet to excel in a more run oriented bootleg or the arm for a deep passing scheme.
Don’t get me wrong though, this is better than Russell, who this year, has been a below average high school back up.

I think you're both right
but then both RRS and noontide tend to write good posts. Gradkowski should get the ball right now but he needs to be a more accurate passer as like I’ve posted before his career completion percentage isn’t much higher than Russell’s is.
Let’s see what happens the rest of the season but I hope all you guys who are high on him are right and he turns out to be a solid player.
Well the bar is set low
by Russell. And improvement of any type is better. And if he can squeak out wins, even better.
Like I said before, if he does good enough to keep around and we draft a 3rd rounder and maybe bring in Campbell, then we could be in good shape.
Also it helps our Defense blitzed again and shows we have a defense.
Win, Lose, or Tie, Raiders til I die!
Russell
And Vince Young are probably brothers Vince Young’s situation was much worst than J-Russ. VY was not a good QB and he had emotional problems to deal with also Kerry Collins stepped in and they went 10-0 Bruce steps in and is 1-0 which is a big deal for us but I am eager to see what J-Russ did in his time on the bench I am sure he realized that he is not the only QB in the world that can make the Raiders win. It will be interesting to see what he dose with the ball and I have a hunch we will see this year.
Wake me up if we win
I think Bruce
has to really fuck for Russell to go back in. Cable said he’s not going week to week on this, so I dunno. If Gradkowski does well against Dallas @ Dallas on a short prep week, I think we’ve seen the end of Russell for the season.
Win, Lose, or Tie, Raiders til I die!
Besides fucking his way out of starting lol
there is always injuries. What if he got an injury fucking? LOL that would have to be a strained groin?

That would be labeled as an
