Talkin' With Tyvon - #12 Updated with Tyvon's Answers
Greetings my fellow members of the Silver and Black Pride community! I am pleased to bring to all of you the 12th installment in the series, Talkin' With Tyvon, from Raiders starting strong safety Tyvon Branch.
This week's installment is the short-week Thanksgiving edition as Tyvon answered some question following the Raiders victory against the Bengals and in his preparation for the Cowboys on Thursday.
The Community is invited to pose some questions for Tyvon in the comments section and he will do his best to get as many of them answered as quickly as possible:
Hello Raider Fans!!! It was a good weekend to be a Raider. We have to carry it over into this Thursday's game at Dallas. Happy Thanksgiving as well....I am assuming this game will be available to all of Raider Nation-so cheer hard. The Cowboys are coming in hot, so it should be a great matchup. Although this was a short week, we had an opportunity to rest up a bit and watch some film, and I feel we are ready to go. I doubt I have time to answer questions before the game, but go ahead and post them and I will do my best.....GO RAIDERS!!!!
TB
SABP: Congratulations to you and the team for a great victory against the Bengals. It seemed that there was an extra amount of emotion and energy with the defense on Sunday. Was that in part due to the fact that the offense was able to move the ball around with some consistency led by a highly energized Gradkowski?
TB: As a team, we felt we had a great control on the game. The crowd was in it the whole time and that really got us pumped. Getting down early is hard on a team, but this week we were right there and it helped.
SABP: You once again led the team in tackles and were all over the field in multiple sets and coverage's. On the play in the 2nd quarter where you blitzed Cason Palmer and forced the fumble, can you describe for us what went into that play and how it developed?TB: We had a blitz on there and I came free and it happened that I got there at the right time. Plays similar to that develop so quick and it is important to read run or pass and then find the ball. On a pure safety blitz such as that, you only have a split second to make that play.
SABP: The previous two Raiders victories were followed by blowout losses the next week even though the team was excited and motivated. What will you and the team do differently this time to try and take that momentum from Sunday and bring it to Dallas?
TB: Well this being a short week might help. We did not have too much time to think about much except Dallas. Hopefully getting back out there will allow us to execute and come home with a W.
SABP: You and the team have a very short week this week being on the road with a Thanksgiving Day game in Dallas. What will you and the team do differently this week, as far as preparation, compared to a normal week with a Sunday game?TB: We will go straight into preparing for Dallas, and not have the usual time off. We have a longer week next week so that will give us an extra day to recover. The short week should not adversely affect us, we are football players and this is what we love to do. We just have to be ready for all of their offensive weapons.
Thanks Tyvon, Happy Thanksgiving and good luck against the Cowboys.

Great game.!
I see you finally made that big hit and forced a fumble.! Exciting play and it was awsome.! Great job.! Great game.!
1) I know coach cable stresses about ball security and not forcing turnovers and all that, on that awsome fumble you forced Morrison was the first to recover then he fumbled the ball. Looking back at the play he help the ball loosly and I’ve seen other defenders hold it like that the same way, if it is easier to fumble holding the ball that way why do it.?
2) following a great win/upset history tells the following game will be a blow out. Why is that.? For example the jets game. Is it because the team gets too much confidence in there ability’s and kinda slacks off in practice or games.?
3) growing about who can you say was your idol in football. It may not be someone who played saftey or corner but who was that player that yu saw thinking I wanna be just like him.?
4) I’m really happy about Gradowski’s play and leadership does his energy and confidence make the team feel they have a better chance of winning.?

The best way to hold the ball is by securing up against your body. Any other way the ball liable to be knocked out pretty easily.
I dont think it has anything to do with not practicing hard. The Cowboys are a good team and we knew we were going to have to bring out A game to win.
Deion Sanders was always my favorite player. He brought so much to the field.
He is a good player with a lot of energy. Anytime you work with someone who is excited to be out there you are much more likely to get excited yourself. It is probably just the same in your job as well. High energy brings a new dynamic to the workplace.

Mr. Branch, I appreciate the way you play my favorite sport - excellently
I have one question:
It has been published that Mr. Davis is micromanaging the Raiders and suggested that the Coaches are being thwarted in their efforts to implement change. To what extent on a scale of 1 to 10 is this the case? 1 being minimal involvement and 10 being absolute dominance
Thank you.

Awesome game, Tyvon, congrats on the game ball on D! You deserved it!
I found myself watching you and waiting for the big play. Enjoyed your interview on Raiders.com; especially alluding to Jack Tatum. It’s great to see someone bring the physicality back to that position. Congrats on the Ed Block award as well. You’ve become a hard-working mentor and leader for every one on this football team, and we are grateful to have you on the team.
Was there anything in particular you credit your recoveries from injuries to earn the starting position?
I hear Coach Cable mention the focus on eliminating big plays from opponent’s offenses, and how it often is a blown assignment or individual not where they should be. How do you guys practice that? I’ve seen the improvement week to week, and also better third down performance. What does the team do to help eliminate mistakes that give up big plays? Anything special, or is it just repetition and reading by the defense?

I would have to say hard work. Everyday is important in the recovery process.
I feel the best way to eliminate the big plays is keeping everyone on the same page. It is important that we are all reading the same thing then reacting appropriately. We learn this through film and practice, but ultimately on the field.

tyvon u r playing unreal right now
i voted for u on the special teams ballot and the safties ballot on the NFL.COM pro bowl balloting… it can not be argued that u deserve to make it to miami this year as a gunner but im not just being a homer when i voted for u as a saftey u deserve it man … i know Chris Johnson gets a lot of respect for playing across form Nnnamdi but u get thrown at all the time as well and u have risen to the challenge…ur part of the young core of this team and i know that Al Davis will do what it takes to keep u a raider for ur career ….also i know there is so little time to enjoy the fruits of ur labor and all the hard work u put into ur craft but i hope u guys have enjoyed the win last week as much as we have thanks tyvon
