I'm actually surprised to see this.
Know what this is? I didn't actually think people would go through this...
This, is a petition for Al Davis to:
1) Step down as General Manager,
2) Hire a GM
3) Hire a real Coach (I like Tom Cable..>_>)
4) Allow the Coach to pick his assistants and what not.
Am I gonna sign it? I don't know. Will you?

I doubt...
A high caliber coach who retired after winning a superbowl will agree to coach the Oakland Raiders. But I do agree with everything else.

well hmm
he signed Russell and made him the starter
He doesn’t let the coaches coach
He signed players like Walker
He meddles w/ coaches and doesn’t let them get a system in
He’s a firm believer in coaches should be around 4 or 5 years
He’s the one that took DHB so early
All the problems the team is having point to him.

Why?
Just because I feel he’s screwing the team up doesn’t mean I’m going to abandon ship. That’s absurd.
Why are you butting into a conversation any way unless you’re bringing something worth while to it. Not the old “if you don’t like it leave” tone.

I dont think anyone really knows how much Davis really meddles with the coaches
Again as with most Raider stories especially with Mr Davis the media repeatedly reports negative bullshit that gets accepted as fact and with Kiffin what choice did he have that asshole was conspiring against him so he could get out of his contract with full pay and get a college job and no matter what he says he had a lot more to do with those free agent signings.
I don’t think it is fair to judge the DHB pick and this is exactly the same problem as the JaMarcus Russell situation and that is that everyone is ready to trash him as soon as he is drafted and because he isn’t jerry rice after 8 games he is a bust.
Al Davis IS the Raiders if any team is worthy of being named after the owner a la the Browns it is the Mr Oakland Davis’s it has always been that way so in reality it is part of what you signed up for as a Raiders fan and for a lot of people what attracted them to being a Raiders fan and it seems like at the moment Cable has his trust and has his own coaches and good roster moves were made.
One of the main criticism’s of Davis is that he pulls the trigger to fast on coaches and that the team has been force fed too many new systems every year. We have tried changing coaches every year and that has worked out shitty so how about we see how this plays out over the second half of the season before we start jumping off buildings

Know your role
You’re a fan. It goes a little something like “Win, Lose or Tie Oakland Raiders til I Die”.
It doesn’t matter who the problem is whether it’s at the top, the bottom or somewhere in between.
As a fan you have to have faith our losing ways will get better somehow, some way. I mean is there anything any of us can really do to fix the situation? Not a damn thing.
The only thing we can do as fans is continue to root for them during the good times and the bad times.
Al Davis is the Godfather of the NFL. He is the one that helped make the NFL what it is today. So if this is the way he wants to run the team deal with it. If you need to go root for you second favorite team til things get better in Oakland, so be it.
I want him to give up the reins to someone who’s a little more with the times and can make the neccessary changes to get us back on the right track. Will it happen soon? Hopefully. But it probably won’t happen until he takes the final dirt nap and reach the HOF in the sky. Until then, I will be here whether we continue to lose or whether we start to win. For those that want to continue to point the finger and place blame, I don’t know what to tell you.

So you're saying it's okay
to feel that the game is passing by Davis and that he’s screwing things up, but it’s NOT okay to express my feelings on how I think he’s screwing up the team I love?

dude
you’re saying that we, as fans, cannot talk or express our own feeling about our team? it’s only because we want them to play better, and coach or manage better. it’s not like we want them to fail when we criticize them. we are not supposed to talk about any problems the team has?
by patriotguy on Nov 5, 2009 6:50 PM PST up reply actions 0 recs
look guys
i’m not saying we can’t talk about the problems of the team. this is exactly the place to be doing just that. what I am saying is the whole “it’s all Al Davis’ fault” shit is really old. People have been saying this since the 90’s. Of course we have been to a SB since then. But now all of a sudden we start losing again and he’s this and he’s that, blah blah. It’s old already.
No i’m not saying he’s still got the sharpest NFL mind, but it is his team and he runs it the way he runs it. If the players don’t like it they could have signed somewhere else when they had the chance. If the coaches didn’t like it they could have chosen to coach somewhere else. And if the fans don’t like it then cheer for someone else. it’s pretty simple. I mean it’s not like he hasn’t been running this team the same way year after year. it’s no secret to anyone. So anyone involved knows what they’re getting into here.

Well right there is the problem. From my post earlier:
he signed Russell and made him the starter
He doesn’t let the coaches coach
He signed players like Walker
He meddles w/ coaches and doesn’t let them get a system in
He’s a firm believer in coaches should be around 4 or 5 years
He’s the one that took DHB so early
All the problems the team is having point to him.
No legitimate coach wants to come to Oakland because they know how the conditions are. They know they don’t get the players they need for their system. They need to try to make it work w/ the players Davis picks. Remember the Randy Moss experiment? Randy Moss was a cancer in the locker room. That was Al Davis signing. Walker tried to give his bonus back and retire, Al Davis talked him out of it. Everything flows from the top down. If Davis won’t give up some control and allow a coach to do his thing, then what you get is what what we have.
Look @ the TB game last year, Davis couldn’t make it and played hard and blitzed. Look at the Eagles game, Davis let Cable do his thing and we blitzed and won. Davis is known to dislike the blitz.
Do you really think Russell would still be starting any other NFL team right now if it wasn’t for Al Davis?
Do you really think any other NFL team would have taken DHB so high in the draft? That’s Davis’ fetish for speed.
Other players and coaches have said that Al Davis undermines them and changes things up on them. And you can say that’s his prerogative, but it seems it doesn’t work.

How can anyone support changing EVERYTHING again
when all anyone has been saying is that we need stability and the players need to learn one system and now people want to blow it up. We have some VERY experienced people on either side of the ball in Ted Tollner, Paul Hackett and John Marshall and everyone was pretty happy with the direction of the team in offseason and were happy to finally be going with youth. In general people were fine with Cable getting a shot at the job and wanted stability and halfway through his first full season you guys want to blow it up again after 8 games!!!

Because the big problems are what's stated in the petition.
We do need a GM, we do need Davis to step down. #‘s 3 and 4 won’t happen til #’s 1 and 2 do.
The problem is Davis has to much control and the game has passed him by. If he would stop meddling and trust the coaches, then maybe we’d get a good coach that can and would do the job. If we are to change again, I would want all these to change because it would set a solid foundation.

I just think we have had so much change in the last 7 years now
unless the team shows zero improvement in the second half and with everyone back we should try and keep it going. We attracted some veteran free agents over the off season as well as keeping key free agents and that shows belief in what we are trying to do unfortunately it hasn’t come together yet.
I definitely agree Mr Davis needs more front office help and trust more people

after this year. Don’t expect to see him around. Don’t expect to see a legitimate coach either working for Davis.
Nothing will come together if Davis keeps meddling.

Once Davis sees this
he is going to run out and start talking to people like Holmgren, Cowher, and Gruden. If there is one thing I know about Al Davis it’s: that he cares what other people think!
I am going to sign it though. What the hell? What else can we do? If anyone else had been GM Davis would have fired him long ago. It is time to fire himself!

I actually just signed the GM part.
Most importantly, I want a good GM. I don’t care if he has experience or not. I would rather have a GM with fresh ideas than a re-tread.
I also don’t care if the coach has previous NFL experience or not. If there is a good GM in place he can hire whoever the hell he wants to.
As far as the staff and roster being the coaches job— well, what is the point of the GM then? I am not opposed to having a coach that is the GM as well but I find having this position filled by two separate men, is usually more successful.

Yeah the coach should have a say in everything...
I think the GM should let the coach pick his staff, but the GM should have some input. I would like the GM to fill the roster, with the coaches input.
GM’s take care of the players?!? sounds a little kinky!
