Draft Suggestion
Please consider Offensive Help.
Toby Gerhart (sp) from Stanford, he's tough, he's smart and he would make a great addition to your backfield. A pass catching FB, a great short yardage back and a tone setter for the OL. With him busting into their backs on run plays, you bet your ass they will start opening holes. Stanford has a great program and he would bring a certain intillectual thump to a super charged backfield. Blocking FB that can play HB if necessary, what versatility. I see him being very similar to Tom Rathman from SF and Mike Alstott w/ Tampa or possibly a Heath Evans type for N.O. He provides a solid dynamic to an offense trying to establish an identity. What made Air Correale (sp) so great in the Chargers system was deep speed down field, we all know that Mr. Davis is fond of the deep pass and his roots are tied to the Charger system. What creates one-on-one coverage, a bruising ground game. Pound the rock successfully and teams have to create a 8 or 9 man front. With the emergence of Louis Murphy and spectacularly fast Heyward-Bey and the other speedy wideouts, the QB can take his pick of targets. Plus, if used properly the FB and pass catching TE are a wonderful pair when Defenses try to blitz to stop an effective Air Attack. The stats on this guys are superb, the most telling is the fact that he doesn't fumble.

If we draft a ANOTHER RB in the first or second round
I will be PISSED! The Offensive help we need is on the OFFENSIVE LINE! we have 3 good RB’s and big O will be back if we need another receiver out of the backfield other than the three we have we can also keep Russell (Gary) for probably a low cost if we want.
I agree with your logic and theory and I like Gerhart a lot, but we have much greater deeps on both lines and at LB to be drafting a RB as high as I think Gerhart will go.

Toby Gerhart
Please stop the Toby Gerhart talk, okay? People talk as if he’s second coming of Barry Sanders. No, I don’t want another running back with the same style as Justin Fargas and Michael Bush. Drafting Gerhart would be completely stupid and a ridiculous move. If you want him so bad, create a team on your video game and you have all the Stanford players you want along with Harbaugh himself.

TOBY TOBY TOBY
I dont want Al to draft him, I just think he’s an amazing RB. Maybe even the next Barry Sanders.haha
There he goes. One of God's own prototypes. A high-powered mutant of some kind never even considered for mass production. Too weird to live, and too rare to die.
I don't agree for the simple fact that he provides a dimension that is missing now
I don’t have a video game team, but if I feel the need to create one, you can be the GM. Also, you can be successful with a running back by committee approach. Just ask the Giants, they had Earth, Wind and Fire last year and were very successful. Plus my contention for drafting him is to take pressure off the offense and apply it on the D. Just imagine teams having to play one-on-one against the deep speed the Raiders have, I’m confident one of the QB’s will be able to spot a good match-up and make some plays downfield. Once this happens, team’s will loosen up their front and then the 3 headed attack can do it’s thing. The other advantage to adding a FB type of back, is this; most of the preeminent teams in the AFC play in cold weather climates. Speed is great and when your playing warm weather teams or dome teams, burn em deep. But if you expect to go deep in the playoffs, you will have to play, Pitt, NE, ? Cin (not sure they are for real) and Denver. So a good ground game is the perfect style for cold weather ball games. Especially with a power back to soften up that defense then hit them on the corners and off-tackle with the backfield speed of Fargas and McFadden.

I didn't think much of the pitch either
I always wonder when people write things like “he’s very similar to Tom Rathman or Mike Alstott” if they ever watched either of those guys play because they were not similar players.
Rathman was a good blocker who only rushed for a little over 2000 yards in a 9 year career while Alscott was more of a runner and had over 5000 yards for his career and even had a season where he almost rushed for a 1000 yards.
I won’t even bother with the “Air Coryell” stuff since in reality the system that Al loves he learned under Sid Gillman who was coaching the Chargers long before Coryell came along.
The point of Thundeholic's reference to the Coryell Offense was
to show the importance of the running game in a stretch pass attack. He mentions how the run forces defenders to the line which thereby frees speedy WRs for the long pass.
The post is about acquiring a Fullback. It is not about Sid Gillman’s development of the stretch passing concept, or Al Davis’ embracing of that concept, or Coryell’s perfecting of the stretch air attack. So your snide remarks seem rather foolish.

Well I'm glad you think my post seemed foolish
now you know how I feel every time I read something you write.
naq92 was indicating (by mockery) a Tu Quoque response which (like a Post Hoc ergo...
… response) is a logical fallacy. The latter “arguments” come under fallacies of induction; they prove nothing.

no, your right
it just seemed like a silly thing to say…
ill mind my own business….
Don't confuse me with the facts, my mind is made up!!
Touche,
Let’s get it straight, my point here is to compliment Mr. Gerhart and his toughness, his will to win and his tremendous balance as a RB. He possesses the great attributes of Mr. Rathman and Mr. Alstott, it’s not to say he is just like one of both, but when I think of punishing RB’s that can help out an offense in more ways than just being an effective short yardage back, I think of both of these Gentlemen. They personified TEAM and they did what ever necessary to bring their teams, to carry their teams and to help their teammates WIN. It’s not all about style, sometimes you need grunts and foot soldiers to do the dirty work and I think Mr. Gerhart has that tenacity, that will to win and that desire that he is a player that other offensive personel will respond to once they see him attack a defense. This of course is just my opinion.
I can not comment on the Gillman vs Coryell debate, that sounds like an area where you have the expertise and I will humbly admit to not knowing about who created and who should be credited with what? Have a great night.

We really need an explosive DT more than anything. I’d draft Defense first and then Offensive Line help. If we cut Russell like I want, we’ll need another QB but I’d prefer that we use the first pick on getting someone to help stop the run. Other than Jason Campbell, who’s available?
Draft: DT first, then 2 OLs then MLB
We have a QB. And may have a decent backup in Frye.

Outside Linebacker
That’s the position in which we need to draft, not so much middle linebacker. Morrison isn’t going anywhere.

Disagree
Im glad Kirk isnt going anywhere…Thomas is excellent..and Trevor is a work in progress
There he goes. One of God's own prototypes. A high-powered mutant of some kind never even considered for mass production. Too weird to live, and too rare to die.
i kinda agree with remix.
thomas can transition to MLB, and trevor has the talent to do well in an OLB in a 3-4.
Morrison
I’m also glad he isn’t going anywhere. I’d be even more glad if he slid to the outside.

Morrison= MLB
He isnt going to move. I wish he did earlier, before Scott was moved to OLB. But, I think our LB Corp is good now. All the D needs is a DT

Shaughnessy
Or however you spell it

I count, and I know my school wasn't the top in the country,
3 words.
Win, Lose, or Tie, Raiders til I die!
Great point but I don't think they are cutting JaMarcus
I do agree, with helping stop the run, especially in the AFC West where there are tremendous RB’s on every team. I do have another post that suggests drafting Ndamokong Suh (sp).
by Thunderholic-75 on Dec 13, 2009 7:07 PM PST up reply actions
Ummm
instead of putting (sp) after the name, why don’t you fire up Google and check the spelling? And no, we don’t need a FB/RB.
K thanks.
Win, Lose, or Tie, Raiders til I die!
Didn't think it matters, Professor we are talking football and not the spelling B, but if you are
Such a stickler for spelling the names right feel free to look them up yourself!

Well I was inferring yout post is nonsense.
I was just being an ass about it.
Win, Lose, or Tie, Raiders til I die!
I'd like to draft an OL or LB.
DTs are easier to find. Just get someone who is huge with great strength(‘m probably an idiot for saying this, but it’s just m theory).
Draft Terrence Cody
Im sayin Cody because Suh will be long gone by the time its are turn to pick. In the 2nd round we select Patrick Robinson CB out of Florida State then in the 3rd round draft a o line then i dont know who to take in our remaining picks
Fear is the Mind Killer
What if we Drafted
A Punter and a Kicker in the first two choices hahaha boy do I LOVE My Raiders. But seriously, we need a O-Line guy a D-Line guy. And BTW Mike Mitchell has been very quiet this season is he still on SP or playin a tiny bit of Defense?
"The Silver and Black are Back" -Greg Papa 2002 AFC Championship game
95% of the time he's on ST.
now I’m thinking we need an OL more to protect gradkowski better. Not to mention our offense needs more help than our defense(imo). A DT, a DE, or an OLB. Seymour can play end, but what do you think is more important? To me, I think it’s a toss up.
nnam and CJ won't last very much longer...
and stanford route is umm…stanford route. Overall, I dont think CB would be the greatest position of need, but you could do a lot worse…
Don't confuse me with the facts, my mind is made up!!
Cornerback
We should draft one in the later rounds, like around the fifth round.
