Please Al, Hire a GM

I would like the Radier Nation to meet at the next game and during the tail gate party have a Russel jersey burning party. or maybe they could give Russel a broom and have him sweep up after the game so his 36 millon dollar contract isint a total waste. Never mind, he would probally drop all the garbage he collected and cause more work for the other workers. Please, please Al, hire a GM.

how is a gm going to solve the Raider's problems?

I think it was a gm who drafted Alex Smith over Aaron Rogers. A gm also drafted Leaf, George, Couch, Akili Smith, and on and on.

Please Al, hire a gm. please, please, please.

A GM for the Oakland Raiders is on my wishlist. And I like the Jersey burning idea..Maybe get a camera crew out there to watch..Get a message across

So does New England, Indy, New Orleans, Minnesota, San Diego, Denver,

Raiders gm = al davis (owner, can't be fired) live with it

Didn’t Indy draft Geoff George? (wasn’t George a sure thing)
Minnesota = 0 superbowl wins (can’t draft a quarterback either)
Baltimore, Kyle Boller
Arizona, Lienhart
I could go on and on.
The point is that Al Davis has done as bad and as good as those other teams. Right now, things have been bad. But crying, boohoo, “hire a gm” is not the solution. Cut Russell, that makes more sense.

How is AL solving the problem???????

I’ll answer that for you…he’s not, which is why we see crap like today all too often. Now you can answer back your standard “we can’t win every year…blah-blah-blah.”

by Rusty23 on Dec 13, 2009 7:59 PM PST up reply actions

Ok

Great question. He hired a Kiffin, who ended up using this job to bolt to another team. Then he hired a “good football guy”, Tom Cable. A good offensive line coach using the ZONE blocking scheme that everyone says Al Davis doesn’t like. Every year, Al Davis does as much as he can to help the team. He signs free agents and makes trades. He brought in Moss, now Seymour. These are top end free agents that you douchebags used to say the Raiders couldn’t get.

Now why don’t you show how he could have done things better and differently. Try not to use bs reasons that can be debated. If it is so obvious Al Davis hasn’t done anything lately, then you should have plenty of unequivocal reasons.

by Sbay on Dec 13, 2009 11:09 PM PST up reply actions

Ok

He drafted Russell, DHB, Huff(he’s solid but over Ngata), and passed on many other stars. What did Moss do? And Kiffin was good, Al just hated him. Need I go on?

Although I think he needed to shut up a little bit, he had the Raiders on track and alot of the games we lost were due to prevent defense.

You listed the hiring of two unproven rookie HC’s and a couple terrible trades Davis made as your case why NFL teams do not need GM’s. That’s too awesome to describe.

Not mad at all. Those were good trades and good hirings

Nothing wrong with those trades or the head coach hirings. I bet you all were excited about the Kiffin hiring. Either way Kiffin lost those games by calling the prevent.

Debateble is not unequivocal. If gettin Moss was such a terrible trade then why did the Patriots trade for him too?
How is the Patriots defense without Seymour?

Those were great trades for the Raiders. Seymour is still young and plays at a high level. A 1st round draft pick is a gamble.

First you said that Kiffin put us in position to win some games but the prevent lost it for us and Al Davis is responsible. Being responsible for the philosophy is ture in some ways, but those games were lost because of Kiffin, since anything but the prevent could have given the team a better chance to succeed.
For those who criticize Al Davis’ philosophy- the NY Giants had the same philosophy and won the Super Bowl. The problem is as you all know, that Al Davis paid big bucks for bad talent and he definitely needs help there; as do many other GMs around the league.

Your whole problem is that your getting caught up in the bipolarism which is Al Davis. He would be a good owner if he wasn’t always trying to be the GM, Coach, Media spokesman, and everything else. The whole problem with Al Davis as a GM is that no owner of a team should be the GM. A rich billionaire who is elderly is not going to put in enough effort into the role of GM’ing to make the proper decisions which are needed from the role of a GM. I love that he is willing to spend money for good players and such. I just wish he had a competent GM advising him on what big players to spend that money on. A competent GM would not have advise him to sign Kelly to that contract or Walker to his or even Hall to his. A competent GM would trust the advice of his scouts when they tell him Hall can’t play man D, which happens to be a major component of our defense. Finally and of most importance a competent GM understands the core concept he is trying to build his team around. Al wants to run the ball hard and pass deep. You need an O-line to do these 2 things. Thus a competent GM either drafts o-lineman high in the draft or advises the owner to spend big money on the best avail in free agency. Who is the last lineman to get big money on the Raiders other than Gallery? On the D-side what additions were made to d-line and linebacker core of the worst rush D team in the league during the offseason and draft? Greg Ellis? Wow, isn’t he a great run stopper, lucky to have him! I see DHB and Mike Mitchell really plugging up those holes on D this yr, I love our GM. Come on now Sbay come real with it. Raise your standards of excellence because to me you’re sounding a lot like Russell when he says he is doing just fine. If your standards are that low, then yes Al is a great GM.

by itswhateva on Dec 14, 2009 2:33 PM PST reply actions

Well Put!

Thanks for answering my original question. You made a detailed point which is much more than a line saying “Al, hire a gm”, then ranting four lines about slowmarcus Russell. I know a few guys here really do understand how Davis suffers from “bipolarism” and they want more consistent good decisions from a full time GM. I just wanted to see if someone including stejohn could articulate how a GM would make things different or whether he was just jumping on the hate Al Davis bandwagon and then piling on after a loss.

By the way, I also hope that Al Davis learned from the Kelly mistake. But you might remember that even Sapp said that Kelly was going to be an elite lineman. Today, Sapp is all over Al Davis.

we need a slogan and at least ten picketers

First we established that all one can hate Al Davis but still support the Raiders without being called a hater. Now, we are establishing the need for a GM with authority to keep from overpaying unproven players and scouting better overall.
