It's more then just the QB guys...

Even after the lack luster Performance of Russell last night. I think the raiders got bigger problems they have to deal with starting with the Defense as they were looking like the Detroit lions yesterday. TOOOO MANY!!!! Big plays were given up not giving our offense much of a chance to come back and win the game pretty much. However tho I can turn the tables to say , When Russell came in his crew wasn't on the same page and let him fail. Heck the Raiders couldn't even get down the field without him tossing up a pick or giving the ball up to the redskins ROFL! As for Tom cable he's nothing more then a puppet for old Al Davis sadly this time if he gets rid of this coach I think no one is going take the job. It's time for the old man to either find a gm or gtfo of Oakland no one wants to here what that old fool has done in the past. It's burned ,and done with this is the year 2010 FOOL! The Raiders haven't been to the playoffs since 2002 you guys think Al Davis going let time pass him by or what I'm really getting sick of watching this team get trashed for 7 years straight now =(

I see your title and yes, it’s more than just the quarterback; however, this is a really competitive team when Gradkowski is under center as evidenced by his 2-1 record when he starts and finishes. It’s a quarterback-driven league and is arguably the most important position in all of sports.

Guys Gradkowski is not the answer for the Raider we need a qb that can win we need a coach that can run the team. I am like how can be a o line coach and your oline cant block.

Gradkowski

What has he done to prove he’s not the future..He had an unfortunate injury, thats it…Yeah, the Dallas game was pretty mediocre..But, hes only calling in the plays Tom tells him to..

There he goes. One of God's own prototypes. A high-powered mutant of some kind never even considered for mass production. Too weird to live, and too rare to die.

How ‘bout a quarterback that was 2-1 in games he started and finished? That sounds pretty good when you put that next to Russell’s record.

It really is

troll season around here. Did a bridge collapse and ruin their homes?

Cable was calling the plays and putting in the players

The Oaf is to blame for yesterday, not the Prince.

The Oaf needs to be more creative with Russell

They should have called a QB scramble with Russell just to get the defense off balance. Cable supposedly called plays Russell was comfortable with. Too bad those plays sucked.

of course you

probably think he’s the best of the best out there. Just like you think Davis is making great decisions.

you're an idiot

2nd qtr:

1-10-OAK 35 (12:17) 2-J.Russell scrambles up the middle to OAK 47 for 12 yards (57-C.Gocong).

by Sbay on Dec 15, 2009 6:19 PM PST up reply actions

of what game?

He didn’t play in the 2nd quarter of this game. He still can’t scramble any where near Gradkowski. And it still doesn’t mean you can creative w/ Russell. Before he gets creative, Russell needs to be able to complete the vanilla plays.

eagles

a scramble is not that creative. If the d-line is playing too aggressive, a called scramble can slow them down. The play posted wasn’t a called scramble but slowmarkus actually ran up and did a spin move on a linebacker, wow wee wow!

by Sbay on Dec 15, 2009 6:34 PM PST up reply actions

Ok

You believe that the plays were inherently bad and yet Jamarcus WAS comfortable with them and he could not execute them because, again, the plays were inherently bad?? So your plan is that Cable calls plays that Jadoofus isn’t comfortable with. How is that going to pan out? So much better I’m sure.

by Rusty23 on Dec 14, 2009 7:34 PM PST up reply actions

Fool! Cable defied the crowd and common sense by playing that creature

we pay good money for Frye to hold a clipboard and take stats that sirbed could do in his sleep. Depth charts are not written in stone. Don’t bandy words with me like a seller of melons in the market place.

One thing's for sure

You’re responses always crack me up. Do you believe that Cable can just put in Frye without consequence? My thought, that has been called “interesting” (which to me is high praise – shows you my low standards) by fellow foot ball fans, is that Cable put Russell in to show Al that he hasn’t done jack to improve and that would give him the leverage he needs to start Frye.

by Rusty23 on Dec 14, 2009 8:17 PM PST up reply actions

If your idea is true, and it may just be, then Cable is not only a craven jellyfish

but a passive-aggressive lick who was willing to throw away a winnable game to make a point.

Frye may not have been ready for that game.

so maybe it just wasn’t viable to put him in. Plus if he was marked inactive, and I’m not sure if he was, doesn’t that not allow him to play for the game?

39 yards of total offense in the 2nd half with Russell, with 6 sacks. 6 sacks in one half is a rate of 12 a game. There are QBs that go the entire season and not get sacked 12 times. Do you think the O-line blocked less? Do you think the running backs and receivers quite putting forth any effort? If your answer was no to these questions, then that only leaves one player on the field . I feel that perhaps his talent peaked at the college level and he will never get any better than he is right now. HE HAS GOT TO GO or the fans will continue to stay away from the stadium!

Cable

While I agree he isn’t the best coach, this goes back to the man that gave him the job in the first place. Think about it, we keep getting these half ass coaches that don’t know jack shit about the game. Whose the man hiring them? It goes back to Al not giving coaches freedom to do what they need to. Sean Payton, coach of the Saints, stayed away from Oakland while we pursued him.

Its not only Sean Payton, its happened on multiple occasions. We got stuck with Art Shell 2.0, Lane Kiffin, an offensive coordinator at the collegiate level, and now Tom Cable.

Its a reoccurring problem in Oakland that can only be traced back to the man in charge. Al is no longer the great mind he once was in football. His ability to run this franchise has deteriorated with age. Its no shot at Al Davis, I want him to stick around and watch this ship get turned around. Wishing death on someone is wrong, so I’m not one of those that hopes he dies. I’m just hoping he figures out that the game has passed him by, and its time to bring in someone who knows where its going rather than trying to retrace where its been.

In 2003 we were in the Super Bowl and Al did a pretty good job picking a coach and team. He’s entitle to make a bad 6 year run,, shoot Jerry Jones hasnt been in the super bowl with the Cowboys since the mid 90’s. That said, I thought Jamarcus, Mcfadden, Seymour, and Walker were all good pickups. Just some of them happen to fall flat and those are key positions to fall flat. DHB has been awful this year and a bad draft pick, but Murphy looks good and seems like a solid pick. Its just been a series of bad luck.. I dont know.

by DvS on Dec 14, 2009 10:38 PM PST reply actions

Once again

I disagree with your opinion on DHB..I will make a bet that next year, given Bruce is starting, He will have 30-40 Receptions with maybe 5 TD grabs.

Wow

First of all it was 2002.

Second of all it was still Gruden’s team and and the head coach was a promoted offense coordinator who helped create the system they were running, so it was still rather consistent.

It’s not bad luck. It’s just stupid drafting for the wrong reasons.

you have to read a little more closely.

2002 season yes.. but not what i said, i said we were in the super bowl in 2003 which we were. btw,, if you knew Gallery, Russell and Mcfadden were gonna play this bad you need a job with ESPN. LoL. I only included Gallery cause he’s paid to be a tackle, but he is a decent gaurd. newayz, he gave Gruden his first shot and it was a good idea (i agree that Super Bowl team was Johns), but John was Al’s choice and that team was built by Al.

by DvS on Dec 15, 2009 10:05 AM PST up reply actions

who knew I said how they were going to play?

The truth is we draft for the wrong reasons. We drafted DHB for his speed not his hands.

what I’ll remember about DHB this year is drop passes and statistically awful. Again, I hope youre right about him. Hes a rook and deserves another year though.

It's his rookie year

and yeah he was drafted in the wrong draft position, but he’s not hopeless. He had that great TD pass from Bruce. Let him work on the drops during the off season then we can make a judgment But you can remember all you want. Why use common sense?
