You are the GM, Now Choose!

Solomon2_medium

Given Oakland's current roster and foreseeable and likely draft picks in April, you as the new GM have the unreal opportunity to choose one of the following listed Quarterbacks to lead the Silver and Black. Keep in mind that you're working for the Raiders with all the baggage that that entails. Assume that the listed QBs will all be 100% healthy and ready to go when pre-season begins. So, all things considered, who would you select?

Imagine you're a GM and can get one of these QBs for the Raiders 2010 season ... who would you choose?

HaHa

I was wondering who picked him..I picked Bruce..I really like him, plus he’s 26..I wonder if JaMarcus is a total douche..Or maybe he’s really nice, but just sucks at football…and talking..and basically anything that makes him look good..Hes good at making himself bad though

Peyton Manning

Trade everything — including the draft picks — for Manning and then have him lead a UFL roster next year.

Peyton Manning

He will probably personally tear his ACL before spending a whole season here..

You ever been to Indiana?

Living in the Bay Area is an incentive to play for us. But, ff our line doesn’t improve, that injury might happen again to whoever is back there.

If Living in the Bay Area

Is the only reason a player would want to play for us..Were in trouble..We’ve been in trouble since 03..I really hope Bruce starts next year with everyone healthy and Suh at DT..Only because our D is the only real weakness when Bruce is under Center..Yeah, our OL is feeble, but our Run D is worse

I'd love to get Suh

But I don’t think the Raider’’ll be able to draft high enough. Even if the Raiders lose the last three games, they still finish with 4 wins and neither Tampa Bay nor St Louis will reach that, and either KC or Cleveland won’t finish with more than three wins given they play each other. If Suh isn’t in the top 3 draft picks, then I would be incredibly surprised. On the other hand, I’d say a trade of a first and second to move up to get Suh would be worth it.
Wait, SofBlanda did say we could fantasize, so, yeah, SUH TO THE RAIDERS!

by guapobob on Dec 18, 2009 11:59 AM PST up reply actions

Al will find a way!

Mr. Davis has a history of drafting Defensive Tackles with his fist and second pick.
Chester McGlockton 1st
Bill Pickel 2nd
Howie Long 2nd
Kover 2nd
Art Thomas 1st
Ndamukong Suh could be the greatest, or at least Howie Long quality. Have hope, Al was burned and will go back to his roots – Linemen, both Defensive and Offensive.

At Villanova, Howie Long played Noseguard two seasons, then moved to defensive end during his senior year.
But, Long was drafted in 2nd round by Raiders listed as a DT when he signed.

Um you guys are joking that you would pick Gradkowski over

Manning,Brady or Brees right? Please tell me you’re joking. Bruce Gradkowski wouldn’t pick himself over those guys.

Of course to get Peyton Manning I think about 27 franchises would have to fold first.

Always fun to dream though isn’t it. Hey Blanda can I have a side order of Adrian Peterson to go along with Manning?

by sirbed on Dec 17, 2009 9:13 PM PST reply actions

AP?

Shit son…Id take Chis Johnson over him anyday..And Yeah. I took Bruce.Only because hes a RAIDERS..Peyton will never stop bleeding Blue and White..And Bruce will never stop bleedin Silver and Black

Chris Johnson is something isn't he

I still say you guys are joking about Gradkowski I mean Manning,Brady are two of the greatest quarterbacks ever and Brees is playing out of his mind.

Bruce Gradkowski got cut by the Buccaneers,Rams and Browns and couldn’t make it four starts without getting hurt I mean c’mon guys.

Chris Johnson

He’s a flat out monster..Scary good..I think he’s MVP if he breaks the record

There he goes. One of God's own prototypes. A high-powered mutant of some kind never even considered for mass production. Too weird to live, and too rare to die.

by Remix. on Dec 17, 2009 9:42 PM PST up reply actions

In any other year he'd be the MVP but this year I think he'll have to settle

for offensive player of the year. If the Colts or Saints (or both) go undefeated I think either Manning or Brees will be MVP.

It’s too bad the Titans got off to such a slow start because it would be fun to see them and Johnson in the playoffs but it’s hard to see how they’ll make it this year.

by sirbed on Dec 17, 2009 9:51 PM PST up reply actions

But

Brees and Manning are only gonna be doing something that was done 2 years ago..And 2 years ago, Bradys had a wayy better of a season than either.
But Chris Johnson would be breakin a 25 Year old record. I really think the record should not be involved in the voting at all

There he goes. One of God's own prototypes. A high-powered mutant of some kind never even considered for mass production. Too weird to live, and too rare to die.

by Remix. on Dec 17, 2009 11:10 PM PST up reply actions

I think the record should matter because it's called the most valuable player

and the guy who helps his team win the most games is the most valuable player.

The Titans are unlikely to make the playoffs so Johnson’s season while great wasn’t as valuable. That’s why he’ll get an award like offensive player of the year instead.

It’s the same in baseball or basketball you hardly ever see a player win MVP from a non-playoff team.

by sirbed on Dec 18, 2009 9:32 AM PST up reply actions

But

If Chris was on a team like the Broncos, a team with a good but not great record. He would easily be #1 in the voting. But, if he doesnt break the record, I think Peyton Manning should win the award

Chris Johnson is my favorite RB in the game - a Ferrari in human form

Just love to see him run. He’s about 5% faster than everyone around him and accelerates away all over the place wherever he wants to go.

After Grad went down things became too grim

Looking at the comments, it seems that many of us are trying to lighten the mood (or escape from the harsh realities). But honestly, I’m not sure Peyton would be the same QB playing for us that he is for Indianapolis. I know what Bruce can do with the limited time our line gives him to set up and throw. Compare the time Manning has to find someone open – a hell of a lot more than our QBs get. So, I’ll stick with my QB choice.

Manning has that great quick release

which prevents sacks. I think next to Dan Marino that Manning is the best I’ve ever seen at getting rid of the football quickly. He’s an amazing player as is Brady and Brees.

I think we can all agree at least that JaMarcus Russell is the player we wouldn’t pick.

by sirbed on Dec 17, 2009 9:55 PM PST up reply actions

Prediction

When Manning calls it a career, I think he’s going to break all of Favre’s records — including the consecutive starts streak — and become the greatest quarterback of all time.

The Ultimate Opportunist

by Rated-R Superstar on Dec 18, 2009 9:34 AM PST up reply actions

Only if Favre ever retires

but yeah I agree before his career is done Manning will have every record but will he have as many Super Bowl wins as Montana,Bradshaw or Brady?

I think it’s safe to say he will have more Super Bowl wins than Russell or Gradkowski.

by sirbed on Dec 18, 2009 9:48 AM PST up reply actions

Maybe

I can see Manning copping two or three more, but I think he’ll get at least one more. Even if he doesn’t win another, I think his place in history will be solidified. Favre only has one Super Bowl right now.

The Ultimate Opportunist

by Rated-R Superstar on Dec 18, 2009 10:02 AM PST up reply actions

Oh I agree

Manning would have been one of the greats even if he had never won a Super Bowl.

My guess is that he’ll win one more as well maybe even this year but I also wouldn’t be surprised if Brady won another one to catch up with Montana and Bradshaw.

Of course Otto Graham won like 7 championships in 10 seasons but no one ever talks about pre Super Bowl titles anymore.

QB

JR: GET HIM OUT OF THE POLL!!

Bruce: The only runner out of the three, and has a developing leadership element. It’s between him and Peyton.

Peyton: We would have to get Reggie Wayne, Adrian Peterson and a whole new O-line here to convince Peyton to leave. But the receivers would have to earn Peyton’s trust, and they can’t earn anybody’s trust right now (except Murphy). So, no Peyton.

TB: On the Raiders, when Brady calls for pass interference, they would flag him for interfering with the game (15 yard penalty, second down). No thanks.

Brees: Great accuracy, basically wills the ball to where he wants it to go. If he can do that with Robert Meachem and Devery Henderson, he might be able to do it with Murphy, Schilens, Higgins and (gasp!) Heyward-Bey. But then the O-line would have to be blown up and a whole new O-line would have to be imported. So sadly no.

By default, Bruce wins!

Precisely.

Given what we have (and next year better DT, OT & C), Bruce is clearly the favorite after considering everything he has to work with.
p.s. JMR’s in the poll b/c i’m curious to see how many die-head believers (it’s close to 10%… scary faith).

grads

i would go with bruce because he is like the snake. gritty, tuff and made an immediate impact with us. hes blue collar and that is what this franchise and city is all about. manning is to much of a perfectionist and white collar, and i think bruce is kinda like brees, smaller in size and big in heart.

Brady is definately not Raider material

White Collar yuppie New Englander from suburbia San Mateo then yuppified Dearborne – more in the 49er mold. But, we have this reciprocity with New England – trading players back and forth. Haven’t figured out Al’s connection.

Uh the point is to win the games right Blanda?

I mean seriously do you think any GM or owner would take Bruce Gradkowski over Tom Brady?

As far as stats you just don’t like facts which is fine but in the real world that’s how things are measured.

The motto of the team is “just win baby”, right? Not “just be Raider material”. Al Davis would sell his soul to have Tom Brady or Peyton Manning because they win.

by sirbed on Dec 19, 2009 10:00 PM PST up reply actions

"The motto of the team is 'just win baby', right?"

That’s correct, and Manning and Brady would win by too many points and disrupt our dynamic and philosophical tradition.

get him if you can.

he’s a team player, and don’t blame him for the tuck rule. blame it on the refs.

by patriotguy on Dec 19, 2009 2:00 PM PST up reply actions

Had to go with my man Bruce, here!

He embodies the Raider spirit, and has proven to be a catalyst thus far. He reminds me of Gannon, and even though I think Drew Brees is more of a winner than anyone on that list (he’ll take the SB this year), I love me some Bruce Gradkowski!

I guess maybe because the other guys seem so unlikely it might have some effect on my subjectivity, and as good as Peyton is, it has been proven he can be taken out of his game, and he’s a different guy all of a sudden.

I love Chris Johnson, too. That guy is blinding fast, and will break records.

by brhynno on Dec 18, 2009 9:13 PM PST reply actions

I went with brees

because he can do whatever he wants. he can pass to whoever he wants, and can decide if he wants to get a TD or not(just for kicks).

But seriously, the guy was soooo underrated until this year.

by patriotguy on Dec 19, 2009 2:02 PM PST reply actions

just my opinion

first, Fu#$ Tom the "Tuck"er, mutha Fu#$er. Next, Peytons too slow,, we dont have the colts line to protect him. No, on Jamarcus,, for statistic reasons. I like Bruce ( with 2 bad knees tho) but sorry. I’d take Drew.
