What if Russel pays off????????
Let's face it folks.....
At this point, Jamarcus is Damned if he do, Damned if he don't.......
I was scared crapless when I saw he was good to go V.S Denver ...
I was watching online ( NFL . Com , blips on screen with last play info, etc )
4th Q, Frye injured, Lossman whatever, Russel steps in..... Fumble for a big ass loss....Here we go.........Shit!!!!!!!!!!
I have to say I've had the "warm fuzzies"ever since.
Even if Russel starts working out, going to practice, etc , fans and media will BOO him nonetheless!!!!!!
He'll have to turn water into wine to get any respect or support.
I'm pissed at him, yet I feel bad nonetheless....
I really WANT him to succeed!!!!!
GO RAIDERS DAMMIT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I am really
Pulling or that QB because I know he can be great but it means nothing that I know he has to know too. As the BOOING goes that is something he needs to get back with the fans(us). I don’t care if your name is Tom Brady, Philip Rivers, or Jay Cutler if you can get us a W then go ahead and get us a W.

His Time has Past
I think the ship has sailed for this bum.I never want to see him and his earrings play with this team again. He has had 3 years to prove himself and all I see is a classic underachiever that cares only about his money. The words leader, heart and desire have never been associated with this big fat bum and if the Raiders were to cut him tomorrow it would not be soon enough.I say the best QB plays and that is not Russell. The only way for this team to get better is to have a field general in the huddle and that is not Russell.Let the QB position be an open competition and may the best one play no matter what his contract pays and if Russell wins then so be it.I for one cannot support him any longer,3 years is long enough.

Looking at him play(from highlights)
he has A LOT of things to work on to be that #1 pick. We all know what those things are. Russel needs to learn more by talking to coaches and his players, and develop communication. He seems to be bewildered that he’s not as great as he thought, and just wants to solve his own problems on his own(because he thinks he can fix it by himself. Since he knows he’s so great(according to his mentality). Now, the only way for him to get better, is to accept help from the coaches and players around him. He’s not doing that at the moment. And thats why he’s not getting better. And that’s why he won’t be a starting QB. I hope he accepts the help around him, and learn from his mistakes.

agreed
most important is maturation. some get it real quick, peyton manning others, it just takes longer, vince young. nothing is guaranteed (ok, your guaranteed portion of contract), everything else must be earned. it’s all mental right now – communication, hunger to work, etc. from there, his mechanics and conditioning will follow. i’m clearly pulling for him; no problem with fans booing when he doesn’t bring it.

He just doesn't have "IT"
The Raiders gave him his chance and that has past.Watching him play you have to see that he is not quick on his feet , does not have a quick release and does not posses the mind to make quick decisions that are required at this level. In college he had great receivers and a front line that could give him 8 seconds to throw the the ball which he will never have in the pros.I just feel like the Raiders need a more dynamic QB to be successful which means quick decisions,be able to throw short passes with touch and long passes with accuracy and most of all leadership in the huddle and practice field. This guy has all the talent in the world but some times you have to cut your losses.Remember Jeff George,Jay Shroeder and Mark Wilson they all had the same skill level and you see what that got us.Bottom line is time to cut our losses and move on.

3 4th quarter comeback says he does have "it"
i’m not a fan of intangibles, but i think its obvious that russell is immensely talented, if he goes and does the extra work he is expected to do. If he puts in the time and effort, along with the development and maturation of his teammates, who’s to say he can’t be half-bad?
id still definitely have bruce start from here out, but i wouldnt cut russell and motivate him to be great for another team..
Don't confuse me with the facts, my mind is made up!!

You can't pay $10mil for " not half bad"
If he’s unwilling to rework his contract there is no option but to cut him.
by The Cupcakes on Dec 22, 2009 3:21 PM PST up reply actions 0 recs
his contract should definitely be reworked
and i think as the offseason negotiations come around, russell’s going to realize he doesn’t have as much negotiating power as perhaps he thought he had.
but I think its best to see what the CBA agreement is before talking about contracts/money. It could end up that Russell’s giant contract doesn’t help or hurt anyone..

I knew this would happen
as soon as I woke up and read the game recap, I knew all the Russell apologists would be coming out of the woodwork.
Russell wasn’t in the whole game. The Defense and Rush attack has this set up for him. We won the 1st KC game despite of him. We blitzed like wild men in the Philly game.
Russell shows glimmer of hope, I’ll give him that. But he’s not consistent, and he still isn’t very away in the pocket. We’re far enough in to his career where improvement should be evident. But it’s not. So it’s too late to really redeem himself and pretty much he killed his own career now and won’t be much more than a backup at other teams too.

so i shouldnt give my opinion....??
i dont understand what point your trying to make there..
as for the game. yeah, i credit the defense for that win. They held Denver to 4 FGs, especially after the offense gave up the ball and put Denver in good field position. The defense definitely played the way a playoff-team calibur defense should be playing.
The Rush attack was great too, but it wasn’t there on that final drive. and it really wasn’t there at all the second Russell came in.
And even you can’t deny those glimmers of hope. I mean, what does basically every other player, scout, coach, say about him? if he puts in the work, he will be great.
If you actually knew me, you would know that I’m not a Russell apolegist or w/e label your trying to stick on me. Im just a dude, that watches a ton of raider games, that saw something from Russell I hadnt really seen before. Dont think for a second that there hasn’t been anti- Vince Young or anti- Alex Smith fans that have been basically utterly proven wrong.

I'm saying
that the game was setup for him by the rush and defense prior to him coming in the game to make that drive and win the game. He didn’t orchestrate anything in the game to get to that position. We’ve all seen Russell make the lucky pass. And I call it lucky because it’s not consistent. Everything just had to line up for that to happen. He didn’t make it happen. This doesn’t make Russell a good QB. This doesn’t show improvement. If it did, we’d scratch the rest of the season and he’d be starting the rest of the season to see if it’s a true step forward or just another fluke. Russell is ruining his own career. Other GM’s have come out and say that they see he has no ambition for the game. So no other team is willing to make him a starter. Only a coach w/ a death wish or a very patient GM or owner would take him as 2nd string.

some get it quick, manning, and others take
longer vince young??? are u serious. young was the ap offensive player of the year and went to the pro bowl as a rookie, people need to layoff the comparisons of maybe russell needs time like young. young had personal issues, russell has football issues! plus young was an 06 draftee a year ahead of russell hes not some guy that has been around the league years longer than russell. russell wont cut ti in oakland, or the nfl.

he has lazy fat ass fur coat wearing issues. He's not enough of a football player to have football issues!
No desire to get better. None of the things that make the greats great.
Peyton still spends more time studying than most guys. If I was a young qb in this league, I’d learn what those guys are doing and then do more.

hands up
VY is wrong example, point taken; more in the sense of maturity – couldn’t handle the boos when he played poorly, didn’t accept any advice, and blamed everyone else. Say Troy Aikman and Jack Elway who took 3 years to develop. Point that I’m attempting to make is it’s about commitment to improve that I equate to maturity and mental fortitude. It clicked for VY last year when he sat on the bench and re-dedicated himself over the summer to technical work. He looks so different from his pro-bowl rookie year; more comfortable with the playbook and not looking to run, even if effective on every other play. JR got too much, too quickly in an organization that was and still in disarray. Age wise, I believe that he’s still very young, hence, it’s still up to him to develop and do whatever it takes.

I would not be opposed to keeping JR around to develop if he didnt eat up so much of the salary Cap. No pun intended with the eatting comment.

i know what you mean raiders4life
about maturing, but my problem with the late blomers, like elway and aikman, is their numbers were improving every year since their rookie season and thats not russells case. as far as maturity goes russell has more games under him than bruce, so how good could bruce probably be when he matures? i think he matured by siting on the bench this year for 9 games honestly. but russell cant and wont win home games, and that my problem with him, hes lost us fans and his first mistake at home he will get booed, go sit on the bench sulking, and cost us a ball game, it has become a fact! hopefully he can get it together somewhere else, but thats up to him

i understand that
but if you going to be 25 years old and are a professional and making big money and are having issues growing up and being a man than in my mind, you never will. if your not serious in your 3rd season than something is wrong.

well then I mistook
the context you used the word maturity in. I thought you meant mature in skill not in personality.

most great quarterbacks
sit on the bench for awile and wait for there turn, while the vetern shows them how to play. kenny stabler, steve young, hell even aaron rodgers. if jamarcus had that when he was drafted, maybe we wouldnt even be talking about this. u have to be a very special quarterback to come into this league and be good right away.

Wrong
JaMarcus’s work ethic is shit..They were questioning that before he was drafted

It's not that
while that is a major part of it, the end of last season Russell looked like he had so much potential and then he shows up this season and the owner, head coach, and QB coach all say he’s not getting it.
Everyone is hanging on the win in the Denver game. Except everyone is forgetting that the rush and defense had that set up for him. And they’re forgetting the sacks and fumbles. And he was still only 5 for 11 for 47 yards. These aren’t exactly numbers to be writing home about.

Neither was Gradkowski
so that argument kinda fails now. Really there isn’t any argument that works for Russell any more. That’s why we had that clown recently try to pull the racism card again. That’s the fall back position. A QB has to try to be successful too.

Well
Lets be fair..Bruce did have some players come back that JR didnt have..BUT, That has little to do with it in my opinion..When JR said that the offense is just making plays for Bruce, it was because Bruce was making it possibe for them to make those plays

Not only that
but Bruce himself was making plays too, which was a kick in the ass for the team.

Exactly
Like scramlbing for the 1st, shaking off the defender..Or when he juked James Harrison in open space..That was badass, even though it came back because of Cornell Greene I think

HOW?
in the world can anybody think for one second that russell has turned the corner and now is on his way to becoming a starting qb in the nfl because of sunday? if he had started the game I’d bet we would have lost by at least two touchdowns if not worse he just makes way too many bad mistakes over the coarse of a game to be a winner and he will never be mark it down if he starts this sunday vs. the browns watch and see how bad our O looks with him in the game we will be lucky to win but I’d be willing to bet we lose thats just how bad he is……he alone make the team worse.

If the Crypt Keeper could figure out how to combine Russell and Bruce, the Raiders would have a quarterback! Maybe they have to do the Fusion Dance!

My Definition of 'IT"
“IT” means leadership or should I say lead by example.I get what you saying nag92 but as I wrote earlier IMO Russell does not have the intangibles to be a quality NFL QB.Because he can throw a ball thru a wall or 75 yards from his knees does not mean he will be great.I think it would be insane to keep him around when The Raiders could use his money somewhere else. This team is coming together and has a nice mix of young talent, with some good draft picks and some quality free agents we could be in the mix again and keeping this underachiever around just doesn’t make sense. What makes this league so great is that if you don’t carry your weight you are gone and Al needs to purge this guy from his scholarship list for the good of the team.As long as I am a ticket holder I refuse to pay anymore money to watch this bum while other deserving players sit on the bench.Isn’t strange that as soon as Russell sits our offense starts making plays .This team plays great when the defense can stay off the field for extended periods.I wouldn’t let 2 td passes sway my judgment just look at his numbers and the way he carries himself and I think that says it all.
