Raiders sign Bruce Gradkowski

According to Yahoo sports the Raiders claimed him off of waivers.

ALAMEDA, Calif. (AP)—The Oakland Raiders claimed quarterback Bruce Gradkowski off waivers from the Cleveland Browns.

Gradkowski spent his first two NFL seasons with Tampa Bay, starting 10 games as a rookie in 2006. He briefly played for St. Louis last year before joining the Browns, appearing in two games and starting the season finale against Pittsburgh.

Andrew Walter and Marques Tuiasosopo were the Raiders’ backups for former No. 1 draft pick JaMarcus Russell last season.

I for one am glad to have him because to be honest with you Andrew Walter and Tui posed no threat to taking over JaMarcus' job. This at least pushes him to concentrate because no he knowas there is a guy that can step in and take his place. I for one love a healthy competition.

We need a veteran at quarterback that can at least teach Russell something.

Gradkowski is worse than the Walter and Tuiasosopo.

I Think

Ken would be a more capable back-up than Grad. Grad plain out sucks. He was brought jus for competition.

basically it was to make

bring some “competition” in.. we all know its just to say changes are happening.. but like Rated-R superstar said.. we need a vet. and Gradkowski is horrible..

Guys, Guys!

Calm down a bit, for god’s sake, he was brought in as a 3rd string QB, or at best a replacement for Walter if we can trade him for a good pick. He is horrible, so what! Tui is horrible, and so are 90% of all the 3rd QB’s on every team in the league. If Russell gets hurt we are screwed anyway, so what difference does it make. Every team in the league is in the same boat, you don’t find good QB’s running around looking for jobs. We haven’t had a good QB for 6 years, if it was so easy to get good ones, we would have had one 6 years ago. Vets don’t want to come here because they know Russell is the QB, and they have no chance of replacing him. This guy can get to throw a little in practice, make a nice salary and not get hurt, relax everybody.

Laoren

This guy is garbage as it get. He can’t even run. Tuia can actually run with the ball. At least bring in Dorsey becuase he shows some promises at times.

He's better than our two backups

Personally, I think Mark Brunell is STILL better than any of these guys

Why are we arguing the merits

of a 3rd string QB? As you probably know SF also put a claim for him but the Raiders by virtue of their lower position got him. I don’t know a damn thing about the guy and don’t care, he probably came very cheap, and can throw a ball at least 50 yds. which is all the Raiders want for a practice squad player. If we are depending on our 3rd string QB for success then we are in trouble.

STOP

preaching about how great Ken Dorsey is. He is the worst quarterback in the league and Gradkowski is the second worst. This was really a stupid pick up so early because Bruce sucks and has no potential of getting any better. Tuiasosopo also sucks very very badly. Andrew Walter is the best back up we got and we need to keep him around. I would rather see McFadden or Bush at quarterback than any other player on the Raiders except Walter.

Laoren is absolutely right, if Russell gets hurt we are screwed no matter what. A veteran back up is not going to make Russell any better. Russell needs to get his ass in the film room and do some studying and start reading that play book like it’s the bible. His lack of focus and production pisses me off because he was selected number 1 overall over Calvin Johnson and is getting paid a 6 year/$61million contract. Calvin Johnson just had a pro bowl year on an 0-16 team so this is the year Russell needs to prove he isn’t a bust.

Oh and Mark Brunell is too old to play. If you are suggesting we sign him as our veteran backup then we might as well go get Gannon to step back on the field.

Mark Brunell

He may be old, but I know he’s better than the other two. He was a member of the Carolina Panthers last year, and had very good fundamentals. He is a smart quarterback with good instincts, scrambled well, quick release, and has great field vision.
Jamarcus would be much the better to learn a few things from Mark.

And, we won a super bowl with a 48 year old backup quarterback on the team(George Blanda)

Walter and Tui

are horrible. Grad isn’t great but I feel he is a step up from Tui and Walter. We need competition at quarterback and JaMarcus knows he has none with Tui and Walter because when he was injured he saw it first hand. Grad made sense because even though the market is going to be flooded with free agent quarterbacks it would take alot of money to get them to come here . Money that should go to signing our important free agents (Nnamdi, Lechler). Also some of them would want an opportunity to be able to compete for the starting job and the Raiders have made it clear that JaMarcus is the franchise.
