Free Agents and Trades
Do you think the Raiders should pursue any free agents or make any trades this offseason? They already did very well in resigning Nnamdi, Shane, and Chris Johnson, but they have obvious needs at the O-line, D-line, and WR positions. Who do you think can be the best fit for this team? Albert Haynesworth? T.J. Houshmanzadeh? Are there any trades they should look into? Don't be hesitant to post in the comments.

Yet to be determined
The Raiders are still shaping their roster and their cap figure by cutting and restructuring contracts. They will no doubt look at some reasonably priced free agents to try to fill some need before the draft. There is no way the Raiders will sign Haynesworth as he will be way too overpriced and expensive. He will probably go to Tampa who is interested in him a they have enormous cap space.
There could be trades, like maybe Burgess, but I prefer the Raiders to acquire draft picks rather than trade them away.

personally
I really like the idea of T.J. coming to Oaktown.. but I think its quite far fetched to think it will be reality… with all of the facts that we have little cap room left I think we need to focus more on the O-line and maybe landing a D-lineman… and worry about getting another WR during the Draft… preferably Crabtree.. because we already have enough guys @ WR who are good and young…

In think that they can get well in the draft:
I am working a piece that says that the O-Line is NOT Terrible.
Adding Unger or Mack in the 2nd Round would solve alot of problems.
I want Michael Crabtree, Mack or Unger and a middle linebacker in the first three rounds.
Or, Maualuga/Laurinaitis, Mack/Unger and Robiskie.
The we’d still have four rounds to add another lineman, a FS, maybe a FB, depending on O’neal’s knee
But when they start scheming us the way these guys did, and we weren't particularly ready for it, anything can happen."

I agree with you Saint
From reading McDonald’s column it doesn’t appear that O’Neal will be back this season and in my opinion his injury was a major blow to our run game last year. The Raiders will really have to scramble if they don’t resign Grove, I know he doesn’t get much love on this site but he continually beats out other players for the starting spot so he must be doing something right. I am tired of signing free agents at monstrous salaries and not have them perform, wish Al would go back to signing guys other teams don’t like but Al sees something in them.
I guess you have all read by now that Porter wants to come back to Oakland, frankly not in favor of that, he dogged it here, complained all the time and didn’t perform all that great anyway. He is not a #1 receiver and we already have Schilens who is faster, younger and with better hands.
I am not in favor of drafting a WR in the first round, hope they go OL, or LB. Mack or Unger in the 2nd, then all out for defense after that unless we need another FB.

Like Cable said in his interview,
speed is the name of the game. As is intelligence. Our O-line is Slow and was beaten often by Quick ends and blitzing linebackers. We also had numerous pentalties.
We really need some new lineman protect Jamarcus, and can pullout quicky off of blocks

Haynesworth would solve our defense....
it would be wishful thinking to get Haynesworth. I dont even know if he plays in a 4-3 or a 3-4. If he played in a 4-3, i would love to have him. He is such a monster that he would clog up the middle (causing double teams and help the run def), plus he is a rare dt who can cause pressure on the qb. Thus allowing the other DL and LB to play more freely. But I too think he will cost too much and TB is really making a push at him.
I too dont want porter. I am a little worried about signing another all pro wr. the last couple have bombed, moss and walker. If crabtree is there, he is too good to pass up.
I think our most pressing needs are OL, DL, and LB. There are a lot of top OL in this draft, so we definately need to get one.

as it stands
I think we need to cut Sands for cap space, but doing so would mean we’d need two DTs (a part-time guy and a rotation man) so I’m thinking sign Rocky Bernard and draft a low-round guy.
As for trades, almost all of my trades aren’t very likely though there is word that Burgess is being shopped around.
MLB can be fixed in free agency is we sign Mike Peterson, the former hard-hitting Jaguar. True, age is a problem. So I still think we should seriously consider Brinkley in the draft if we don’t already draft Rey.
I really don’t like the idea of drafting Raji as DT isn’t our biggest need (OL is) and the position already has a ton of money dumped into it. As stated, Bernard and a low rounder would be much cheaper and get the job done.
Another DT proposition is to get Moala with a fourth or fifth rounder (of course meaning we would have to obtain a fifth rounder) Moala is a great pass rusher, an element that is has been missing form the DT spot since Sapp was last good (even though Warren is pretty good at the role) Drafting a pass rusher at DT can leave us to draft a run-stopping DE to cut off any outside runs (which is a very underrated weakness in Oakland)

if we're gonna cut someone for cap-space
the first guy should be kwame harris. his cut instantly results in 7.2 million dollars off the books. theres no way he was about to start nxt yr anyways.
Don't confuse me with the facts, my mind is made up!!

agreed
but instead Oakland had to be an idiot and cut one of our best players in G. Wilson

Very true Kaizer
Kwame Harris and Terdell Sands got benched and played like crap and still haven’t been released yet. But, we release one of our only bright spots on defense last year in Gibril Wilson. I just don’t get it, I think we are taking a step forward to getting better, then we take two steps back. It’s going to be a long season again if we don’t get a GM to start running the team.

Al
obviously knows something we don’t know. I do question him right now. Terdell and Kwame should’ve been first off this offseason

plus those three cuts
still freed up less cap space than just plain cutting Harris. We could have cut Curry, edwards (though I’d rather that have been Sands), and Harris and freed up about 10 million dollars in cap space, and that’s without restructured contracts.

I don't get it
but for some reason Cable seems to still have a thing for Harris. He hasn’t even committed to Henderson yet, even though he’s so much better than Harris was.

I think he wants to see if he can improve him over the offseason
but I don’t think he really truss him anymore seeing as how he believes very strongly in Henderson. But not yet 100%.

If Harris stays
it will be at a dramatically reduced rate. He will not be paid the $6 million roster bonus that will be due. If they sign Harris to a new contract that is cap friendly to the Raiders, then fine, they can keep him around and see what develops. They can always cut him before the season if things don’t work out.
