Crabtree missing combine...good or bad for raiders
So, on my home from today's sharks game i heard the latest interesting tidbit about the 2009 nfl draft. link
It's obvious that perhaps the raiders biggest need for the team this year is at WR. This injury may have allowed us to snag the best receiver and maybe the best overall athlete at pick #7.
We can still definitely fix our WR problem through FA with huge names such as Housh, Boldin, and maybe some high-risk/high reward guys like TO and Plax (although I would definitely stay away from them).
Just wanted to hear what you guys think about Crabtree and whether or not this makes him possible to go to us at #7. or maybe we should stay away from him because of the injury...?

We can’t fix our wide receiver problem with Houshmandzadeh and Boldin when we had to release Wilson just to stay afloat.

yes
im tired of reading bout how the raiders should go for all these stud free agents when we cant even keep our own players with out going under!
lets put it this way…this off season wont be as “glamorous” as we thought last season was. when last off season unfolded we all got optimistic and excited by seeing those big name players come in…there is no way we can afford that kinda spending spree again so we wont be big time players this off season…we have to hope our draft is real real solid for sure otherwise its gonna be all bad :(..

wouldnt be so sure about that
teams ALWAYS find ways to stay under the salary cap despite who theyve signed…
i think we’ve been saying the raiders have been in shitty financial shape ever since they started losing. besides, cant we just incredibly backload any deals we make w/possible free agents so we will just pay them more once the salary cap is gone?

I'm not sure we had to release Wilson
from the reports I am reading the Raiders felt he underperformed and didn’t want to pay the roster bonus money, or his salary either. I thought he played well, but what do I know?
Apparently the coaches didn’t think he did, and doubt if he made friends with his “circus” comment after Hall was let go. The one thing I know about Al is that if he wants a player, money has never stood in his way. You have never heard the Raiders complain about the salary cap preventing them from getting who they want.
I think there is a new sheriff in town and doubt the Raiders will be very active in the free agent market. That is just my guess from what I have read.

i think i read the same thing
besides, if we were gonna cut someone to stay afloat…im pretty sure it would be kwame

I don't think that after watching the last 2 games
that the Raiders need a wide receiver that bad. Higgins and Schilens played very well and we still have Javon Walker who’s one of the highest paid receivers in the league. Drew Carter is possibly a good receiver but I doubt it after seeing his lackluster career in Carolina. Todd Watkins and John Holland didn’t really get much of a chance to show what they can do and Lelie had a few good games until he got injured (especially against his former team, Denver.)
Personally I think we need to get the best available OT with the #7 pick to start at LT and move Henderson to RT. That will dramatically improve our O-line and Russell will get better too. Kwame Harris and Cornell Green are the two big reasons on why our offense wasn’t very good last season. I’m sure there will be a good receiver available in the 2nd round still.

No
Stupid experiments like that are the reason why the O-line has sucked for the last few years, moving players around from one position to another just stops their ability to perfect their position.

We don’t need a wide receiver!
Jerry Porter is coming to save us!

It is a bad thing
but we all know what he can do. Also, The sharks game was awesome. i wouldn’t have gone today because of all the kids but I like how they showed how good they were. Third period was great.

I think he will drop becase he skipped the combine
That being said, it means either he’s injured, or he’s (or his agent) afraid his stock will fall. Cable said how important it was not to waist draft picks so, Crabtree would be risky pick.

first off
I don’t consider WR much of a need (please draft Heyward-Bey) seeing as how Higgins and Schilens are pretty good starters, all we need is depth. No one knows how good Shields is yet and Watkins hardly even played.
I also don’t see this being a big thing for Oakland as I’m 100% positive that Crabtree will go to Seattle. However if he drops to Oakland, I’m not so sure Al will “have” to draft him. Seeing as how he’s opposed to the idea of drafting WR in the first. I still see Monroe coming here.

Which
I still don’t mind. Skip Andre Smith, that kid. and i mean little kid. Oher didn’t look too good either. Jasonn Smith did okay. Monroe also did okay.

Yeah I agree
Seattle will draft crabtree, I read a combine report with Jim Mora jr. praising Crabtree and it seemed very convincing to me that he was going to draft him regardless of his injury. So its looking more like the Raiders are goin to get B.J. Raji.

That sounds good too
DT and OT are the Raiders two most pressing needs this offseason. LB, WR, SS, and FS are the next priorities.
I would welcome B.J. Raji with the 7th overall pick if he is available.

Oh god I hope not
all we need is to sign Bernard and a mid-round guy. DT doesn’t require a first-rounder. In fact that’s probably the need that doesn’t need drafted for within the first three rounds (except for S depending on who ends up starting) We need a solid OT for the future. Monroe fits that bill perfectly. But back to DT. Look at who we have:
Kelly- Didn’t play up to contract, but played to the level of a typical starting DT in the NFL
Sands- better than last year, did pretty good at stopping the run, not good in pass game. most likely to be cut soon
Warren- Our best penetration guy. Good as a pass rusher and decent as a run stopper
All we need is to just get Bernard to have a official run-stopper and a rotation guy to fill in for whoever gets worn out. We don’t need a high-priced guy at a position that’s already got a lot of money dumped in it. We have much bigger needs.

We can't stop the run
We have finished last or 30th and worse for the past few years. It’s time to get someone to stop the run and plug the gaps so we don’t keep getting rolled on and teams will actually start throwing at Nnamdi.

Yup
we need to stop the run, select a MLB linebacker. Problem solved.

or maybe we can go and get
ray lewis? or bart scott? t think saint mentioned this somewhere…but i think its much more beneficia to address our run D (and probly WR, too) throug free agency.

Lewis is either going to the Jets or Dallas
but Scott would be nice to see in Oakland.

the Ravens run 3-4
and he plays MLB beside Lewis. But he can play either outside spot.

MLB and DT
are issues. A good MLB and a DT similar to Shaun Rogers would make our defense stellar.

read a bunch of mock drafts
here’s the major consensus on Oakland’s predicted picks as it stands:
(ordered from what I’ve seen the most to the least)
1st. round:
Jermey Maclin/Eugene Monroe (it’s like a tie)
BJ Raji
Michael Oher
Rey Maualuga
trade pick for Eagles picks where we receive Mack and Hayward-Bey
2nd. round
Hayward-Bey
Alex Mack
Ron Brace
Michael Johnson
Unger
Brinkley
3rd. round
only mock I saw with a third round had us getting Brinkley

i think we saw many of the same mock drafts
and a lot of those said we draft crabtree if for w/e reason he falls to us. this mite let him fall to us

Seakawks will pass him up 4 sure
WR just isnt one of there needes everything eles is but they have deion branch and next the browns have Braylon Edwards then the bangles who have chad and possibly T J so that leaves it up to us and i think we will get him great asset to J-Russ big time WR since Rice And Tim Brown

actually chad might be out too
he doesn’t want to be there and nobody on the team wants him there.

Good
Teams think he will be a risk taking him and he will consenquentley fall to our pick…if were daring we will take him…if we were smart we wold take an O-LINE men

I can almost guarantee
that a lineman will be picked with our #7 pick. If both Monroe and J.Smith are gone, then I think you’ll see Raji be picked there.

my favorite time of the year
always has been, always will be. So much analysis involved. I’ve always kinda seen myself as a good NFL scout or GM.

yeah
it so fun to dissect your team and figure what’s needed where, what needs upgraded, who needs released, who needs out/in on the coaching staff, which players to trade, which players to sign, which players to draft and when, it’s all so exciting. I’m an overall analysis kinda guy so this is like heaven for me.
