Javon Walker May Be Released

Link: Javon Walker to be Released

Star-divide

This story came in shortly via Adam Schefter.

Last offseason, Oakland spent millions to sign CB DeAngelo Hall, S Gibril Wilson and WR Javon Walker.

Already, Hall and Wilson have been jettisoned — Hall cut during the season and Wilson after it. Now, Walker could be next.

Walker is due a $5 million bonus payment March 3. It is likely that the Raiders would rather release him than pay him. Thus, for the second straight offseason, an AFC West team is likely to release Walker.

Hell Yea

I want the other talents on our team to rise up. Ay, if he goes, I’m all for drafting Crabtree with our first pick. Or Heywerd-bey with the second.

I know Crabtree’s hurt, but if he’s available, I wouldn’t be able to pass on him.

I’d take Heyward-Bey, but he is probably going in the first round, so I don’t think he’d be available in the second round.

If Crabtree is off the board, I think we have to go with an offensive tackle with that pick. If the Seahawks sign or acquire a wide receiver, Crabtree will more than likely fall to us. He’s the best talent in the draft.

i agree 100%

i still wouldnt cut walker. if we’re gonna pay him so much money anyways we might as well keep him.

maybe he’ll be more effective with other receiving threats like JLH and schil?

Don't confuse me with the facts, my mind is made up!!

by naq92 on Feb 22, 2009 10:02 PM PST up reply actions   0 recs

I would definitely cut him

but I’m worried as to some cap repercussions. But isn’t next year capless? How does that work?

Anywho, I would cut Harris before I’d cut Walker. Walker could’ve stayed as some okay depth. But I’m fine and rather happy about this. But when will it be Harris’s time?

Hopefully soon because

he sucked ass last year. We shouldn’t get rid of Walker until next year though because of the major cap hit we’ll take. I still can’t believe we only gave all our free agent signings of 2008 one year to prove themselves.

Wilson should have been kept

getting rid of Harris, Sands, Curry, and Edwards (along with our expired contracts) would free up enough cap space for this year’s offseason. Wilson should have been kept and Walker should still be here because of the cap space punisher mentioned.

I doubt he will be cut

the cap hit is too great. I would expect the Raiders to restructure his contract.

Walker

won’t restructure.

No i dont think so

The Raiders wont waste there time to restructure his contract hes probably going to get injured in the frist game or get shot in Vegas

Great Points

Maybe they

could come to an injury settlement w/ him

You left something out:
Walker’s bonus is injury-guaranteed and he finished the season on injured reserve with a broken ankle, so if they cut him, there will be a grievance and he will win.

But it still doesn’t change the fact that he’s likely to be released this week.

If and when the Raiders release Walker, he will count against their salary cap for an eye-popping $14.16 million. It is a huge number to absorb, but the Raiders believe it is the right move to make.

Fortunately for the Raiders, they succeeded in retaining some of their own players this offseason, keeping both CB Nnamdi Asomugha and P Shane Lechler. Unfortunately for the Raiders, the curtain is coming down on their failed free-agent class of 2008.

$14.16 million in 2009….good God man! Cap hell has arrived in Oakland!

You need to find someone who is good with numbers and do a post on the Raiders cap situation.

We got a guy over at MHR..two guys actually, who are good with numbers and have analyzed the numbers…last year anyway. Not so much for 2009. I’d be interested to know how the Raiders actually look in 2010. A signing bonus usually prorates over the entire course of the contract.

WE SHOULD SIGN HARRISON

Marvin Harisson does NOT want to sing with the colts after thriteen years so Al Please take out that check book one more time and give Harission a block busta deals so it will elminate our needs for WR and we can focus on off line on the draft.

You can't afford Harrison's stinky jock strap right now....

draft someone in the 7th.

Another Schillens would work out JUST fine:

you build a team through the draft anyways....we learned that the hard way with Shanny....

now you guys will learn that the hard way because of Davis.

I don’t want any FA guys coming in here anyway at WR.

Marvin Harrison is washed up

Johnnie Lee and Schilens are better than him at this point in his career.

Plus the Raiders

can’t afford to sign him to a major deal (one we can’t afford) then he turns out to be a bust and/or gets injured halfway into the season… I just wouldn’t take that risk…

I wouldn't go that far

Harrison is still a quality guy and we don’t know if Higgins and Schilens can play like that for an entire season.

Yeah i guess so

thats probably right he might get inured or be a bust basicly like walker last season but maybe T.J whoes-yo -mama will settle for less

unlikely

he’s New York bound to join the G-men. He wants in a stable situation on a winning team. Plus the leite know they’re elite, and they want paid as such.

Proven wide reciver

I would like a WR thats has been in this leaguge 4 a while and dosent want too much money so he can help younger reciver such as chad, arman, wattkins ,and whoever we may get from the draft cuz i dont think that sanjay Lal cant really coach never heard of him until he got WR coaching job..

hold up

how many people do we have cut for us to get under the salary cap??

by nishal26 on Feb 24, 2009 10:09 PM PST reply actions   0 recs

This is not salary no more couz

This is just getting rid of loser players. Javon will cost us money to release him, but no one wants to pay him so it is best to do so.

Derrick

How many years does he have left on his contract cuz if we lose him it’ll take a big hit on our D- line unless we draft B J raji cuz this 31st rush Defense has got to end.

this is burgess's last year

and if eh doesn’t step it up to at least an 8 sack season he won’t be resigned.

if he doesn’t contribute by the deadline he might be traded if not before then.

That might be a good thing

We need players to produce and can’t have people who don’t play well so i was thinking we should trade him for a good O-linemen or maybe a WR but im not sure.

by nishal26 on Feb 25, 2009 5:11 PM PST reply actions   0 recs

Cloes is a Free Agent

The Jets just cut Coles and i’m not too sure if we should sign him he seems like a pretty solid WR but im not too sure if he and J- Russ we be able to play with each other what do you think??

by nishal26 on Feb 25, 2009 5:28 PM PST reply actions   0 recs

I'd like him

but I’d rather we get Drew Bennett. Bigger guy, cheaper, and great red zone threat. Has good hands and decent speed for his size. e could get him for a veteran minimum deal, unlike Coles who wants a long-term deal.

I don't think Coles would work

I just don’t see Coles as a Raider. Walker needs to go, but his salary makes him too hard to dump. I’ve been pushing for Marvin Harrison. I think it would be the Jerry Rice pickup all over again. I made a whole hub about my arguements.

Who's a good TE right now??

I’m not sure if we can pick up a good TE in the draft but stewart isn’t helping at all Miller he’s doing it all by himself and still has lots of yards but one thing i don’t like about Miller is he can catch the ball but not get to the end zone i hate that then we have to settle for a feild goal we could have won so many more games DAM.

by nishal26 on Feb 25, 2009 5:49 PM PST reply actions   0 recs

um......... Darrell Strong?

why am I the only guy who remembers him? Dude’s a beast and will be very good as the guy playing with Miller
