Oakland Raiders DLD 2/25/09: Get Ready For Free Agency!
We are at the eve of free agency and we can expect a flurry of activity today as teams fix their rosters in preperation for the commencememt of free agency to begin at 9:00 p.m. PST.
Expect the Raiders to be active today in finalizing their roster by signing some more of their own free agents as well as the restructuring of some contracts such as Gallery, Sands and Walker. In the case of Sands and Walker, if they do not restructure, then they might be cut. Although Walker, is more expensive to cut then keep. Check out team-by-team free agents here.
In other free agent news. Those hoping that the Raiders would re-sign Gibril Wilson can forget about that because he just signed with the Miami Dolphins.
I still believe that losing Wilson was not such a big deal as he had a questionable attitude and though he is a good tackler, he is terrible in coverage. And, he went to Miami who will be losing their two safety's, former Raider Renaldo Hill and Yeremiah Bell. Either one of those two would be welcome additions to the Silver & Black if they can be had without overpaying.
Wide receiver is the other area where the Raiders need to look and there will be some possibilities to pick up some reasonably priced free agents that have recently been cut: Galloway, Laveranues Coles and Drew Bennett are all possible and cheaper that going for T.J Houshmanzadeh. Especially after the Raiders told Jerry Porter thanks but no thanks. The Raiders will however attempt to re-sign both Grove and Carlisle.
There may also be the chance for the Raiders to go after the Vikings center Matt Birk as the Vikings eye Baltimore lineman Jason Brown.
What do you think Nation, what other teams free agent should the Raiders go after at 9:01 p.m. PST?

Yeah
I wont miss Wilson much, but we need to address SS fast. I would take Bell over Hill, but what about Jermaine Phillips from Tampa or Dwight Smith from Minnesota? Or what about Tyvon Branch starting there? I think Drew Bennett would be a nice complement to JLH and Chaz if the Raiders are going to go with those two as starters… If the Raiders are going to be active in FA, I hope they start immediately, because Free Agency is quite a frenzy.. Oh the possibilities!!!!

Man
I am saddened by Wilson being signed by Dolphins. He was a good specimen and I will miss him. I like to wish him good luck also.
A New Spirit, A New Team, A New Coach, But Same Commitment.
ya wilson was good
but he was definitely replaceable, especially with his contract. maybe cable was thinking we just stick huff back there…?
Don't confuse me with the facts, my mind is made up!!
please resign Carlisle and Grove
I’d go after either Bennett or Galloway at WR. Both are cheap veterans with their own talents they can bring to the table.
We must try to get Birk, Grove or no Grove. Birk’s one of the top centers in the league and i think we could steal him our of FA.
And Mason said to god, "May my clutch shots go in" And God said, "Yes. Yes they may my son"
I'd like to see the Raiders go after
either Marvin Harrison, TJ Houz, or Amani Toomer. J-Russ is in dire need of a serious “big time” receiver and if they take care of that need via FA then it means they can use one more pick in the draft to address their other holes.
Zeigler to Geren…."A-Rod? He’s my bitch." -alox
Not really
Mavin is really old and washed up he needs Manning to be good if we get him it would be like Walter throwing to Randy Moss and look how that turned out we need young players to led this team like Chad but a few veterans for experience.
How about Derrick Brooks???
Would he be a good linebacker for us i mean he has 11 pro bowls but the only thing i would be worried is his stability.
Marvin Harrison!!!
I’ve been pushing for Marvin Harrison since the day he got cut. I have my compelling arguements why he would fit on my hubpages:

It’ll be like Jerry Rice all over again.
I would be happy with Matt Birk or Kalf Barnes, either one would help solidify the line.
matt birk
sounds GREAT…
i actually just read this mock draft that had the raiders taking alex mack 7th overall…wtf? thats gotta be the dumbest shit ever…no way will somoen take a center with that high of a pick
Stang PRIDE!!!!!!!!!
Crossing my finger for Khalif Barnes
I don’t know how much we can do but starting to build up our line would be awesome.
