Huff to be cut?
Jason Jones of the Sacramento Bee is reporting the team is likely to cut S Michael Huff
This would be disasterous, Huff has struggled in coverage and tackeling, but has too much potential to be cut. I think Rob Ryan may have affected his development by putting him in his doghouse. This is a big reason we need to sign Nnamdi to a long term deal.
We need a "Captian" in the secondary to mentor some players, and communicate with the Coach/front office.
We need team leaders in all playing positions
I personally think high priced FA can disrupt this concept.

I would give Huff one more year
and believe he is under contract for one more year. It took Nnamdi 3 years for him to produce, why not keep Huff unless it is for salary cap problems.

i agree to an extent
If Branch or baker shows him up in camp I say he should leave. I’d like to see Branch come in as the new FS.

Huff's contract
Huff’s contract is a 6-year, $43 million contract which included $16 million in guarantees. I’m not sure what his year 4 cap number is, but it must be big enough for the Raiders to outright release him.
I have read several other rumors about Huff to either Green Bay or Atlanta. I would at least like to get something for him rather than just cut him. But, I tend to agree that giving him one more year with the new coaches is worth a try.

Thanks for the info
Why would they cut him this year with that salary? Now 2010 that is a different story, way too much money to pay a guy who is not contributing. This looks like a no brainer, if he finally gets it together you have him for this year at a very reasonable salary, and next year not too bad with a very excellent salary for 2011 if he is a star. No way should they cut him this year unless there is a chance some team will give us a very high draft choice for him, and I mean a #1 or low #2.

Bonus acceleration
I believe that when you cut the player, any portion of the unpaid bonus accelerates and applies to the current years salary cap.

Hard to say
Those numbers may be deceiving. I couldn’t find any other info on his contract, but there may be other bonuses that may kick in to make his ’09 cap figure more than $945K.
If it truly is that number to keep him around another year, he may be worth keeping around for one more year and see what Lionel Washington can do with him.
No one is going to give up a first or second round pick for Huff at this point.

Yes, one more year and he must win the starting position
I’d love to see what he could do in the other corner position having earned some confidence going into nthe final year of his contract

I wonder now
how much this may fall on Ryan. Hear me out now.
Schweigert didn’t do too good in the same position. Maybe under Ryan that was just an underdeveloped position? So maybe one more year won’t hurt.

I think a lot of players are going to have to be re-evaluated
But if they want to play for us, they may have to restructure there contracts
Huffs (2009)money should go to Fargas. Incentive based contracts should be suffecient.

I say take the money
and give it to Nnamdi and/or Lechler. Fargas is getting what he deserves for his age and injury prone body.

I would agree
except he’s underperformed alot. Missing tackles and dropping picks.
