Oakland Raiders: S&BP Raiders 2008 Player Achievement Awards
It's time for the community of Silver and Black Pride to vote your choices for the 2008 season Oakland Raider player achievement awards.
This will be a five part series that will commence with Rookie of the Year, then be followed by:
- Most Improved Player
- Defensive Player of the Year
- Offensive Player of the Year
- MVP
As we pass time and get prepared for the NFL Draft and the beginning of the new Raiders 2009 season, let's take a look back at 2008 and choose the players who achieved the most in their respective categories.
The candidates for Rookie of the Year:
1. Darren McFadden
-
Rushing
Year Team Att Yds Avg Lng TD 2008 Oak 113 499 8.7 50 4 Total 113 499 8.7 50 4 Receiving
Year Team Rec Yds Avg Lng TD 2008 Oak 29 285 9.8 27 0 Total 29 285 9.8 27 0
The number 4 overall draft pick of the 2008 draft had his season interrupted by various injuries which obviously effected his stats, but nevertheless McFadden always made his presence felt on the field.
2. Michael Bush

| Total | 19 | 162 | 8.5 | 10.8 | 0 | |
Yes, I'm including Michael Bush for this category even though he was drafted in 2007. He never was activated for 2007 season, so I consider him a "red shirt rookie" as Bush saw his first action only in 2008. Bush really was under utilized, but when he was in he usually made an impact with his pounding style and versatility, not only rushing, but receiveing and throwing option passes.
3. Tyvon Branch

The speedy, hard hitting safety from Connecticut was drafted by the Raiders with the first of their 2 picks in the 4th round. Branch's season was also cut short by injuries and he ended up on injured reserve.
4. Trevor Scott

The Raiders drafted Trevor Scott in the 6th round out of the University of Buffalo to play defensive end. Though Scott is somewhat undersized, he made the most of his opportunities when he was on the field.
5. Chaz Schilens

The Raiders drafted the 6'4" 225-pound Schilens in the 7th round and while he had some issues with injuries also, Chaz learned his position quickly and became a large target for Jamarcus Russell to look for. Chaz showed very good progress throughout the season and was a great value pick in the 7th round.
Those are your candidates Nation! Choose who you think should be the 2008 Raiders Rookie of the Year:

Good post but a tough poll
Only a couple played all 16 games and none had a stand out rookie season. I’m leaning towards Scott because he probably saw the most play time but I’m a bit torn.

Bush or Scott
Injuries hampered too much of the others’ seasons. Bush and Scott, when utilized, showed some of the talent the Raiders can bring to bear in the next few years. Even more promising is that if the other three can stay healthy next season it only makes the Raiders that much better.
My vote is for Bush.

Gotta say bush
he had such an amazing game against Tampa and was the reason we won that game (along with a great defensive performance) If he had more carries he could have been the starter by Week 11.
With the drafting of Manu and Parker and the signing of Oberto, the International Basketball era began in San Antonio. showing that all of the world's people can, in fact, come together in peace and harmony. After all, every nationality loves to kick the Hornets' asses.

Chaz
He was the only one who had a significant improvement from the beginning of the season to the end. D-Mac and T-Bone (Tyvon) were injured most of the time so I feel they don’t deserve it. Trevor is a good choice also, but he was only successful when the opponents were tired. Chaz wasn’t starter in all the games, but he improved so much as the season progressed. The final three games, he played like a starter. So, my vote goes to Chaz. And I hate spelling his last name.

Chaz
Cuz i think he was the real WR other than Jonnie Lee Higgins and another reason why i would pick chaz is cuz he started two games with a touchdown in each that’s more than Walker and Ashely
This year. is the year, for years to come

Very Sad w results
first and foremost great post !!!!
If McFad is our rookie of the year than this group doesnt expect great things from a top pick. I want expect Adrian Pete, results if I am going to give the top pick to a #4 pick.
Name a 7th rounder the Raiders have drafted on the team, #1 and then #2 one that even played.
Chaz is the pick, because he is not only a performer but a building block.
Mr. Bush you should have had the carries to win but a second you deserve.

Promising. PLEASE AL!!! LET IT BE PROMISING!!!!!
I’m picking Chaz for two reasons. The first reason is because he performed and developed very well towards the end of the season. And, with all honesty…that’s what counts as a rookie. Perfomance and Development. The second reason is I’m really hoping that he did enough to sway the front office from drafting another sexy pick (i.e. D-Mac). I really like D-Mac….and I think he will be the game breaker that we need. But, Im telling you, Jamarcus, Bush, nor Darren will last the whole season without doing something about the O-line. Crabtree would be a nice look though lol!!!!
