Mock Draft

Over at the Colts' SB blog Stampede Blue, we are holding a mock draft.

Star-divide

I am responsible for the Raiders' picks. I feel like I have a decent grasp on team needs, but I would love to hear from you guys!

What positions are priorities?

What players are good fits in Oakland?

What players aren't good fits in Oakland?

Any other info you guys think I need is appreciated. Thanks in advance for your help!

WR

WR is our first priority, now that we signed Khalif Barnes and Erik Pears, and already Mario Henderson. So what we need right now to improve our offense is a WR in the 1st round. Now what are the choices most people want for the Raiders is Michael Crabtree or Jeremy Maclin. Jeremy Maclin is very fast and versatile which Al Davis loves, but Michael Crabtree is the playmaker and is the best WR in the draft period, and by looking at his games you can tell that he is pretty fast.
In the second round we would need to get someone on D, that can help against the run.
So what I am aiming for in the 2nd round (if he is still there) is Michael Johnson. But if here isn’t there then we would most likely have to get either Alex Mack or Max Unger.
In the 3rd round we would again have to go defense. Picking up a LB, for example Jasper Brinkley or Scott McKillop.
Now in the 4th we could use a DT just incase he turns out to be better than the ones we have right now. One I have in mind is Dorell Scott from Clemson.
In the Fifth round we don’t have a pick.
But in the 6th we should be picking up a Safety for a little bit of depth. Like lets say, Curtis Taylor from LSU.
And finally to finish the Draft we might pick up anyone for depth or the best player available.

Crabtree or Maclin

One of the two will be there and davis will draft them. Crabtree is your best bet.

As I stand at the brink of oblivion where the Thorns have ripped the world in two, I look for a new afterlife for us. One where we are neither tortured nor made protectors of the living. I ask if you'll wait for me.....

It Will Be Either

Crabtree or Raji.
If I were you, go with Crabtree. A lot more Raider fans like Crabtree.

Agreed

I think if Crabtree is available then that is who we should draft. But if not, then Raji is next on the list because we need a run stopper. Orakpo and Curry will be long gone or I would go with either one of them. Getting Maclin would be a stretch with the 7th overall pick and we should trade down if Crabtree or Raji isn’t available. Nicks and Robiskie might be available in the second round or if we trade down so to me drafting a wide receiver isn’t a huge priority since Higgins and Schilens played so good at the end of the year. Not to mention we still have Javon Walker who could have a break out year if he can stay healthy.

Personally, I am already having visions of Russell throwing bombs to Crabtree and the Raiders taking over the AFC with McFadden and Bush both rushing for over 1,000 yards in the same season. Our offense will be scary good with Russell’s big arm, McFadden’s elusiveness and speed, Miller’s sure hands, and Crabtree’s big play ability. I can smell the playoffs from here. :)

Win, Lose, or Tie, Raiders til' I die.

It Will Be Great

I’m starting to realize how great Crabtree will be with J-Mac’s arm. However, I still salivate over Raji and of him penetrating opposing offenses. (This didn’t sound right.)

DT,WR,C,SS,LB,WR

First pick should be Raji the RAIDERS need help on the Dline. 2nd pick Robiski he run’s good routes and another weapon for JMAC! C should be the 3rd pick Unger and Mack will be gone and I believe we can get E. Wood nasty and can also play OG! Patrick Chung should be the 4th pick we are really soft in depth since RAIDERS released Wilson and lost Baker. Best LB on the board in the 6th. And finally a WR in the final round. Maybe a big RED ZONE threat 6’3-6’4 WR!

by nateoak10 on Mar 22, 2009 12:30 PM PDT up reply actions

You forgot DL, LB, DE

I guess YOU forgot somebodys got to stop the run huh.
Khalif Barnes, signed a one year deal. He’s had off-field issues and inconsistant play in Jacksonville
We would be smart to draft a OL like Smith to solidify our line. You saw what happend to Brady

Run D has plagued the Raiders for too long

J-Russ has made incredible strides the last 6 games of last year and I think we can feel a little comfort offensively in that.

NT, C, DE, and OLB are my biggest viewed needs for the Raiders in the upcoming draft. If you would like some extra insight check out these articles.

also

Most Raider fans should not be able to not notice (intentional double negative) the amazing strides and ability of Mario Henderson and he is definitely worthy of the opportunity at starting LT, Eric Pears is an amazing back up for the young man and as a vet in the ZBS at the position he should be able to help Henderson rise to be even more so the quality LT that he truly was for us in the last games of 09’. Barnes has the size and mobility to be an amazing run blocker and should benefit from having the lesser athletic DE’s facing him on the right side. So from this I hope you will consider that Tackle is not a priority for the Raiders and as it rightfully so should not be.

We went BPA over Need last year and think consecutive years of doing so could set us back in our already vastly improved team. Enjoy the articles and good luck reppin the Raiders! You certainly have our support!

I was all for the Barnes signing

I live near Jacksonville, Barnes was drafted in 05’ RD 2 and was considerd a first round talent. He played great his first year but later on had some off field issues and ended up in Delrio’s doghouse. But he’s still young(26) and has all the tools to be a preimere tackle in this league, But his character and commitment are questionable. I believe in second chances, and so does Al. That being said, he has only signed a one year contract
We have a young group of offensive stars and my view is, it would be wise to grab an elite tackle if he fell to us.

I also wouldn’t mind Raij with the # 7

Khalif

is one of the best signing ever by the Raiders. He sign only a one year deal so if he messes up, we will be ok. Safe, yet extremely beneficial. He was the key free agent in this years FA and we got him. I wish we could’ve signed Rocky Bernard, but o well.

Yes he's very good football player

I just have questions about his character. He lied publicly about an accident he was involved in an then changed his story.
Great offensive lines work well together, trust each other, and belive in the “team” philosophy.

DRAFT PICKS

HEY RAIDER NATION
DOES EVERYBODY KNOW THAT WE ONLY HAVE 5 PICKS AND NO 2ND ROUND PICK? OUR NEEDS ARE WR, DT, SINCE WE TRADED WITH THE FINS FOR A CENTER , WE DONT NEED TO DRAFT ONE. WE NEED A D-TACKLE AND NOW WITH GREEN IN TROUBLE DO WE LOOK FOR A GUARD OR MOVE ON. A SAFETY OR DB WOULD BE NICE TOO IN THE 6TH OR 7TH ROUND. CHECK OUT OUR PICKS ON NFL TOTAL ACESS OR NFL .COM
