should we make a move for braylon edwards?

As you may know Braylon Edwars is on the block and may be moved before the season starts. I think we should make a move for him. Getting him would give us flexibility in the draft so we can go defense, we can trade the pick etc. But what if we get him and crabtree? That would be one of the better reciever tandems in the NFL. Maybe trading Fargas or bush over there could draw some interest. Jaml Lewis is getting older and we have some young backs, then maybe give them Routt and a later draft pick(not this season) like a 2nd rounder. It would havee to be a trade and sign because his contract is up after next season. Now he does drop alot of passes but also makes alot of big plays and he could help out Russell some.

http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/players/profile?playerId=8418

Edward did have a down year this year but partly to do with Derek Anderson being a one year wonder but he did drop easy passes sometimes. Just look at his crazy 2007 numbers when there team was good.

He wouldn't be good with us

Do you know how many drops he had last year?. I don’t expect him to catch any bullets that JaMarcus throws at him he most likely will be a bust.

the only player they would have interest in would be Bush

Then we would be sacrificing our identity as a dynamic running team for a passing team (with a guy that has alot of drops and amazing grabs). It seems like a gamble when we have a sure fire top 3 or 4 running game next year. There is no way we trade draft picks, #40 seems like the best trade option to me so maybe but I still think Robiskie packs a wicked game and is an early contributor for whomever drafts him. Great attitude and was brought up on the raider sidelines.

identity..

wat’s it worth?

I don’t think the departure of Bush would leave some gaping black hole like the one we have at…..WR.

Its just why gamble?

When we have something rock solid in Bush, DMC, and Fargas. I don’t think that move would mirror the Mr. Davis of this offseason but hey you never know. I go back and forth on this one mostly toward keeping Bush and not trading him for Edwards but Edwards is a great WR despite his struggles in Cleveland.

Why not trade a # 3 RB for a #1 WR?

We whould most likely go away from Crab Man in the draft, And that whould put a smile on your face Darth.

Because

Bush really isn’t a 3rd string back. He has potential to be our starter.

no way

build through the draft. We need to find the next Hines Ward. You know, a guy who sticks with his team for 10 years and plays at great level every year. Maybe that’s Crabtree, maybe it’s not. But it sure as hell isn’t Edwards. Too many drops. We need a guy with good hands other than Miller on the team.

But this gets you thinking about what the Browns might do in the draft. Jurevicius is gone, Stallworth is most likely out, and now they’re thinking of trading Edwards. I’m starting to think the browns will pick Crabtree. Try to surround Quinn with better weapons (this also would explain if they draft a RB in the first three rounds) and ditch the iffy guys.

Now if this happens then we might get an even better pick, Brian Orakpo. No team before us (other than the Bengals and chiefs) needs a DE. And even if they do, they have bigger needs to address first. DE is most certainly not our biggest need, but I think we’d all love Orakpo more than say, Maclin.

Just some food for thought

I really like RAK

but something bothers me about him for some reason. I see him as a RE, he hasn’t developed pass rush moves in game and strictly bull rushes or uses the swim move. I can see him being a big sack man and his strength is really interesting me as he is an amazing fit or the RE position. But call me crazy I think we have a future RE with big sack number potential in Trevor Scott, this kid deserves the benefit of the doubt. If Raji isn’t there I would be happy with RAK, Maybin, or Everette Brown, but to be honest I would rather go for Oher or Rey Rey.

I’m with that one.

Here’s the top nine on my big board (not my overall rankings, just who I think the Raiders should take if he’s available):

1.) WR — Michael Crabtree — Texas Tech
2.) OLB — Aaron Curry — Wake Forest
3.) DE — Brian Orakpo — Texas
4.) DT — B.J. Raji — Boston College
5.) OT — Jason Smith — Baylor
6.) OT — Eugene Monroe — Virginia
7.) DE — Aaron Maybin — Penn State
8.) WR – Jeremy Maclin — Missouri
9.) OT — Andre Smith — Alabama

Instead of going after Braylon Edwards, we are sitting with a pretty good chance at getting someone that will be better than him and that is Michael Crabtree. I’d rather develop Schilens and Higgins and keep whatever we would be giving up to grab a guy that, I believe, has led the NFL in drops for the past few years.

technically

Arnez battle has the most drops per targeted pass but Edwards is a top-10. (I heard this on ESPN one day so sorry for lack of link)

No on Edwards

He has plenty of talent, but i dont like the drops. Crabtree doesnt drop passes. He just looks so natural at catching the ball.

As for stallworth being out kais, i wouldnt bet on it. The evidentce is adding up that it wasnt all his fault.

http://www.google.com/hostednews/ap/article/ALeqM5g-CLeMDPwyX2iShZyyhlE_wWxjlgD974N6NG0

He shouldnt have been speeding, but more and more it looks like he didnt mean for it and even took precaution to prevent him from being hit. Also it is reported that donte flashed his light at the man in the crosswalk.

http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/news/story?id=4014292&campaign=rss&source=ESPNHeadlines

I think the browns are not in play for a receiver. If donte gets suspended at all it will be for 1 or 2 games. They are shopping edwards, but they want a kings ransom for him, and he is too inconsistent for a top pick. I believe they will keep both receivers. They have even brought in david patten, who isnt a stud, but helps out with rounding out the receiver corp.

Browns also let go their starting right tackle shaffer. It is unlikely but they also might look for a tackle at no. 5.

Most likely they will draft orakpo, because they only had 17 sacks all last season, near the bottom of the barrel in the league. Raji looks like a no go to the browns since big baby rogers is back at offseason conditioning.

Unless chad johnson is traded or edwards is traded, i am not gonna get worried about crabtree not falling to us at 7.

And the whole “maclin has al davis speed so dont be suprised if he passes up crabtree for maclin” has about just as much proof behind it as “Al davis wants to bring in TO”

There is another saying that i have in response to that “AL Davis isnt THAT stupid”

Give me Boldin!

Braylon drops more balls than T.O.
If we’re going to “make a move” lets make it Huggie + for Boldin

by rambis64 on Mar 29, 2009 1:49 PM PDT reply actions

I say yes

If we make a move for Braylon Edwards we wouldn’t lose much, just maybe a RB, and a 2nd Rounder. Which would probably be a 2nd rounder in the 2010 or 2011 draft and Michael Bush which was pretty good last year, but we can survive without him. Plus if we do get Braylon Edwards we still can draft Michael Crabtree, but I would much rather want to go for Brian Orakpo if we were to get Braylon Edwards. And if you really think about it Jamarcus Russel is a way better QB than any of the QB’s the Browns had, so Edwards can really show up with a QB like Russel. But if there would be a WR I would try to make a move for right now it would have to be for Anquan Boldin.

I'm not too sure with Boldin

He is a very high performing and elite WR but what happened with Haley in the playoffs really hurt him. That is why i don’t think he will be good with us I don’t want a WR in Oakland screaming at Cable and Jamarcus beacuse of something he did wrong kind of like a T.O

Will not leave Dallas now that he is the 1 WR after T.O left so he won’t be going anywhere. As for Boldin look at my statement above. Amani however I would be fine with he has a big body and has good hands as well.

Hey bro i was talking about the other Roy Williams you know the Pro bowl safety That would fill a very big need for us and Amani Toomer. Both would fill the holes in there respective areas and wouldnt cost very much since i dont see anyone paying top dollar for either of them.

Well if we do get Braylon he is only worth a 3rd and a late round pick. He makes plays and we don’t have that in our current wide reciever corps.

We have had very bad luck with big name WR'S comeing in.

But i say YES,He is better than what we got right now. It whould be a still if we could get him for a 2nd round pick or even better give them M. Bush for him. Hopefully RUN DMC will barely need fargas this year and RB’S are a dime a dozen these day’s. But naq92 has a good point , they whould be out of there mind not to get Crab’s if they got rid of B.E and they lost Winslow this year to.

I Don't know about giving away Bush

he really came up and helped us when both Mcfadden and Fargas were out vs Bucs you don’t really find that a lot in RB i say that we let Fargas and Bush fight it out and see who is better and trade whoever is worst away at the end of the 09 season of course.

I just think when RUN DMC bust’s out this year we won’t need him. If we can get Edwards out of it, I say do it. I don’t think that whould be giving him away. Yes Edwards will drop alot of ball’s, But he will score more TD’S than any one on our team.

I am changing my tune

I think we should trade #7 to Cleveland for Braylon Edwards, #36, and #50. Then they could get Crab-Man for the O and RAK-po for the D. I like RAK but he is going to take it all away from Trevor Scott. I would much rather arm up with 2nd rounders to draft and use as leverage to postiion ourselves were we want to be. But a draft of this + Braylon Edwards would be insane. I don’t care about the drops and not wanting to be in Oakland, everyone would have creamed themselves if we landed him after the 07’ Season. The dude can play and I would prefer him over Boldin to be honest especially with us receiving draft picks for #7. I know Cleveland would probably never do this but why wouldn’t they if they can land the best OLB and WR prospects in the draft.
