Who is Ramses Barden? Hopefully the Raiders 3rd Round sleeper pick that's who.

Who is Ramses Barden?

Well, only a 6'6 Wide Receiver weighing in at 227 lbs. who posted forty times of 4.48 and 4.54 at his Pro Day, which was an improvement on his 4.58 Combine time, which was already impressive for a player of his size. Barden also posted a
10-foot 2-inch broad jump and ran a 7.10 three-cone in addition to catching the ball like Fitzgerald in drills.

No wideout in the draft has longer arms @ 34 1/2 inches or bigger hands.
Barden's catcher's mitts measure in at nearly 11 inches. This guy is a great interview and has the personality of  one Nnamdi Asomugha on and off the field.

Here are his Stats at Cal Poly-SLO

YEAR     REC    YDS    AVG   LNG  TD

2005      40        655     16.4     0      9
2006      42        824     19.6     0      5
2007      57       1,467   25.7     62   18
2008      67       1,257   18.8     67   18

Career   206    4,203    20.4    64    50

Yeah ,yeah, I hear you all saying, "But that was Cal Poly-SLO not a big name school", well neither are Central Florida, Hofstra, Alcorn, and Chattanooga. Don't believe me just ask Brandon Marshall, Marques Colston, Donald Driver, and a guy by the name of Terrell Owens. You have to admit this guy is a beast, a hidden gem in my opinion it would be a shame if we didnt get this guy. His is THE #1 sleeper in my opinion and could be a clone of  Calvin Johnson.

So if you're thinking to yourselves, " Yeah but he is not a 1st rounder he cant  be all that great", let me tell you neither were these guys and they turned out  ok.

Chad Johnson                       Rd.2

Anquan Boldin                       Rd.2

Greg Jennings                       Rd.2

Terrell Owens                        Rd.3

Steve Smith                            Rd.3

Laveranues Coles                Rd.3

Brandon Marshall                 Rd.4

T.J. Houshmandzadeh        Rd.7

Donald Driver                        Rd.7

Marques Colston                  Rd.7

Wes Welker                           Undrafted

Anyways, I think you guys get the point. All I am doing is trying to make my case and I think I have done that .

Is there anyone who agrees? If you dont, then, make a case of why not.

Personally, I say if we don't get  Rak at  #7, trade that pick to philly for #21 & #28 with those and our #40 we can get a top notch DT,DE,& LB and get the "Man of the Hour" Ramses Barden with pick #71. We can address the O line with the final picks #'s 126 & 216 and hopefully get on the ball so we can sign SS Roy Williams and WR Amani Toomer (He is good and would be a good mentor for our young receiving corp.) I dont see them costing  much but who knows?

he looks pretty good but how are his hands?

Personally

I love Ramses. To be honest, if I did grab a receiver this draft year, it would be him. I am a fan of tall receivers who are naturally gifted. I hope we do grab him because then we will be able to use our 1st round pick on Raji or Rak who will be more beneficial in my opinion.

I live in SLO

and have basically seen every home game since he has been here, he has great hands and dominated the 1-AA level. He became a very good blocker as he got a little bigger. The knock on him would be that he played in an option offense and doesn’t have tons of experience running routes, that being said he probably ran 3 routes all 4 years he was here and no one was able to stop him, I would love for us to grab him in the 3rd I would have guessed 4th round a couple weeks ago but he put up a pretty good 40 times on his pro day.

Big UP!

Lord Ramses is the real deal, imagine him and the KING, and apparently Mr. Davis and Co. have been doing the same.

Im not for this dude

A big tall dude who ran a 4.5 should be a stud right? Im not buying it right now. I didnt remember seeing him in the senior bowl and he looks like mike williams type coming out of college. He is a tall dude who can run well but that usually means he cant drop his hips well and is a long strider. He is a great red zone threat as the number show, but for jamarcus i want better, even if he is a good “value” pick in the 3rd.

the SBnation gimmick. You say +1 to notify the reccing so the rec-e nkows you’ve rec’d him.

Good Pick

In the third, but if the Raiders wait all that time to pick up a WR in the draft until the 3rd they will be taking a big risk, because if he doesn’t come out as good as everyone says he is then we would have to wait another year until we get another WR, that is if we don’t trade or pick someone up as insurance for Ramses Barden. Now don’t get me wrong, I really like this guy, he is tall, fast, has hands, and is a red-zone threat, but I would still want to get Michael Crabtree in the 1st. Although I would want to get Orakpo in the 1st I don’t think he will fall to us, so I say pick up Crabtree.
I say we go like this in the draft: 2 choices

  • ****************
    Round 1: WR or Round 1: DE/LB

Round 2: DT or Round 2: WR

Round 3: LB/DE or Round 3: DT

Round 4: C or Round 4: LB

Round 6: S or Round 6: S

Round 7: Best Player Available or Round 7: C

I would rather have Chip Vaughn

Take Chip Vaughn with the 3rd round pick and hope that barden is there in the 4th. I think Vaughn is what the raiders need.

by dgalvan42 on Apr 1, 2009 11:22 AM PDT reply actions

long gone

by the fourth he has the niners rams bucs cowboys eagles drooling all over his sack no later than 3rd so that is out of the question and we wouldnt need Vaughn if Mr. Davis would sign Roy Williams already.

Won't Be There In The 3rd Round

If you want Ramses Barden you have better be prepared to take him with the 40th pick. There’s no way he falls all the way to #71. Not saying the Raiders wouldn’t do it, as Barden has an intriguing skill set, even if he’s Chaz Schilens v 2.0. Time will tell.

Dream Drafts:
Michael Crabtree, Ron Brace?, Chip Vaughn, Lawrence Sidbury
Brian Orakpo, Brian Robiskie, Jasper Brinkley, DT

Doubt it

Everyone is so infatuated with the other sorry receivers like Brit and Joaquin or would rather address a bigger need that is what makes Barden a perfect sleeper in Round 3. Too damn good to fall below Rd. 3 and everyone else is to worried about What people may say if they Draft him earlier than that and since only 6 others come before us in Rd.3 so unless Al says otherwise we are going to see the endzone be lit up Via Air mail quite a few times this year.

give this one some thought

I like this kid as well… he could be a steal in the 3rd round just like Bush was a couple of years ago. Keep that in mind going forward. As for first round… we may want to trade down if the right pick is not in place. I see Raji as damaged goods just like Darrell Russel was years ago… Can we afford that now? Lets look at trading down with Detroit or more likely Denver (they should be looking for a new QB) and we could land a good Safety in that spot (18 or 13 I think, depending on what Denver will part with) as well as a rich draft in the linebacker position not to mention a lower round pick if we can get it (we only get five this year).
Lets not waste our pick on Crabtree and look at what other teams are doing in the first 5 picks. We may get more from trading off our pick (7) than what is available at that time to help the team in 09-10

looking forward to the next 30 years of this team

ramses barden

This is basically what the raiders are in need of with the great michael crabtree grabbing all the attention of the secondary this could the best second target for j russell. And with great running attack the raiders have this will be the rebuilt team that us raider fans are waiting for
