Raider fans relax

Guys please relax. I know our selections today were not the most popular choices but we must relax. We must relax until we see these guys perform on the football field.  Darrius Heyward Bey could turn out to be the next Larry Fitzgerald for all we know it. He's an explosive player who MUST be accounted for at all times no matter what. His speed and playmaking ability demand it.  Coach Cable is absolutely right when he says that Michael Crabtree is a system receiver.  His pass happy system at Texas Tech is a joke. It's a gimmick that's non-existent in the NFL. Good luck adjusting to the NFL Crabtree. DHB is much more explosive than Crabtree will ever be. That's a fact.  DHB's explosiveness is no joke.

As far as Mike Mitchell goes we will wait and see. The clips i have seen depict a hard hitting secondary player who must have a blazing time if Mr. Davis drafted him.

Raider fans we'll see what unfolds tomorrow. We picked up some extra picks by trading with new england. good things will come tomorrow.

ita hard to relax

when consistently our team owner makes obvious choices i was hoping for a miracle and instead i got sick to my stomach but hey you never know right i hope the preseason shows that we may have hope and these players we drafted turn out to be hall of famers but like the last 7 years defeat is getting old.

I'm glad we didn't take the guy that has a screw in his leg.

And his toxic attude would be a distraction to the organazation.

Unless DHB is the second coming of Tim Brown there is cause to panic

With Crabtree going across the bay, DHB will always be compared to him. If Crabtree outperforms DHB in the slightest, it will all come down on the Raiders as an organization.

No one respects the fumbling of a no-brainer even if it is an assumed one. Unless DHB pays HUGE dividends, we will be considered citizens of a nation with an idiot king.

Crabtree will lose any comparison to DHB as long as this guy doesn’t got someone that can throw the rock to him^^

Jarron Gilbert, please!

Aquaman would kill on our D

It would make this draft at least slightly okay

uhhhhh...

“DHB is much more explosive than Crabtree will ever be. That’s a fact.”

Please, please, pllleeeaasseee provide some factual evidence for that absolutely outrageous “fact.” This should be good.

by techtom4 on Apr 25, 2009 11:56 PM PDT reply actions   0 recs

First of all...

We shouldn’t have taken a WR in the 1st round with BJ Raji and E.Monroe still on the board. Fuck Crabtree too as we could have addressed WR in later rounds. We needed major help where the game is won and that’s in the trenches. The best WR’s to ever play this game (Jerry Rice, Chris Carter, Steve Largent and Tim Brown to name a few) weren’t fast or known for their speed but they all had the same things in common. Good route running, smart players and sticky hands.

then look at tape of DHB, Crabtree will never have that speed or explosiveness…http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1doAFxdxlRQ&feature=related…never take youtube for granted, but there you can see what a 4.30 can do for you.

Just win, baby!

by trentemoeller on Apr 26, 2009 4:16 AM PDT up reply actions   0 recs

I would recommend

that you look at some tape of Crabtree as well. Heyward-Bey may have better straight line speed, but I can assure you he is not more explosive. Crabtree bursts out of his stance and makes great cuts and has great overall body control and fluidity.

How do you pass on the guy who TWICE won the award named for they guy that played for and coached YOUR team!!?!?! He’s the only guy to EVER win the Fred Biletnikoff Award twice!!

That was a decent point ...

even though I never liked Crabass. We didn’t make a mistake by drafting DHB over Crabass. We make a mistake by not taking BJ Raji to help out our weak run defense or E.Monroe to shore up our o-line.

by kawelu on Apr 27, 2009 5:58 PM PDT up reply actions   0 recs

and Michael Crabtree’s highlight reel isn’t the same play replayed from different angles over and over again (2-3 times) to pad it out to 4 1/2 minutes.

Doesn't matter...

I didn’t want DHB but I didn’t like crabass either as I felt our o-line and run defense were more important needs.

by kawelu on Apr 28, 2009 9:21 PM PDT up reply actions   0 recs

that's what im saying!!!

Look, i AM a Crabtree fan but Im not mindlessly defending him. I will, however, defend him when all this BS gets flung around about him not being a hardworker, diva, etc…

My point and most people on this blog is there were at least 4-5 OTHER players on the board who would have been a better pick at #7. Orakpo, Maybin, Monroe, or Raji.

Wreck 'em, Tech!

by Tortilla Pirate on Apr 29, 2009 7:54 AM PDT up reply actions   0 recs

No, that was my point...

You and tiny tom were saying that how could we have passed on the player that won the Fred Biletnikoff award twice and that we should have picked crabass over DHB. You ARE mindlessly defending him because my point is not which WR is better or which one we should have picked, I could care less about that. My point is we should have picked Raji or Monroe over crabass, Maclin and DHB and this is the reason why I have been arguing with my fellow raiders.

by kawelu on Apr 29, 2009 8:50 PM PDT up reply actions   0 recs

Look

If Trent wants to compare highlight reels, sure I’ll play that game and feel I have the better argument. But for the millionth time, thats not my point!!!

Guess what! We are in agreement. You DID have a terrible draft cuz if you didnt want to take crabtree then you should have taken the aforementioned Orakpo, Maybin, Monroe, or Raji.

1.) Your draft sucked

So again...

your agreeing with me. Being a raiders fan, I will be the first one to tell you or anyone that we had a shity draft. We didn’t need Orakpo or Maybin as we have adequate DE’s in Burgess,Richardson and Scott but we should have drafted Raji or Monroe.

So now it’s settled.

k.

after stepping back and taking a breath and realizing what happened, to me it makes sense. Crabtree seemed to be fit with that diva labeled attitude, as well as he wasn’t all that thrilled with the thought oakland would take him, remember, cable is trying to change the culture and create a winning and SELFLESS team, i dont think crabtree would have fit that bill to well.. i applaud cable and that staff as well as mr davis. we now have a TON of speed at WR, it will all develop. and mike mitchell shows me safety play i havent seen in years. honestly since cable took over and whats happened this offseason, shows me that they are building for the future and establishing that all imortant core of the team. instead of throwing money for a 1 year fix. its refreshing and i like it. remember your history and you’ll see that in the past we always have taken the players nobody looked at and dared to be different. no risk no rewards fellas. even if the direction we are taking doesnt lead us to where we want to go, hell, at least its a definative one. i dont care what any of those tv tools say. period.

by DrDeath32 on Apr 26, 2009 1:47 AM PDT reply actions   0 recs

I really love DHB at Oakland. Mitchell?! I ain't sure...

I like what the Raiders did in picking DHB, the only fault they made was not trading down to the late 10s, because he would have been available there, still.

Anyway, this kid beats every DB in the league putting press cover on him, really everyone. His hands are better than everbody thinks, they are definetly not that bad as you all say.
His route running is good in my mind, and because of his speed, corners have to take him a bit off, and that creates space for shorter yardage plays.

They main point is, that he`s got enormous talent, and his speed is just off the hook, this i has burst that i have never seen in my whole life.

You know, you can teach peoples hands and you can teach people running routes, but you can’t teach them being big and running a 4.30…

Just win, baby!

and from all accounts

Both these guys are extreamely hard workers which is also exactly what we need and gives these guys a great opportunity to reac their full potential while crabtree does not seem to have this same quality he seems like the type who has never really had to work hard at football and takes it for granted which may be by Jacksonville also passed.

by Ozraider on Apr 26, 2009 7:05 AM PDT up reply actions   0 recs

WOW

Do you follow college football in any manner? Michael Crabtree is one of the hardest workers there is! How else do you think he became the NCAA’s best receiver after playing QB in high school? Sitting on his ass?

by techtom4 on Apr 26, 2009 11:11 AM PDT up reply actions   0 recs

you cannot be serious

This is going to go down as one of the worst Raiders drafts ever. It DHB was the guy targeted, they should have traded down. Six losing seasons in a row, and I do not see that changing with a draft like this. This is a public relations nightmare, because if this DHB is not the real deal, Raider fans will never give him a chance. Crabtree landing with the niners is going to just bring it out every year how this was a terrible pick. I have been a Raider fan for years, and thought we were turning the corner with the last couple of drafts, but again this team proves it will find a way to screw things up. It is not about track stars, it is about football players! This is an absolute joke, and it makes the Raiders the joke of the league. You can be an optimist, but do not try and sell me on the idea that this was a good first couple of picks. I find it hard to believe that a team can do things every year to make it worse, but the Raiders seem to always find a way. I will always root for the Raiders, but they continually make it difficult. When making draft picks, you have to take the least risk possible, and I really believe the Raiders did not do this. This will set us back another couple of seasons, all I have to look forward to is next years draft when we are picking in the top ten again. Hopefully they do not screw that one up!

Sad day to be a Raiders fan!

I think that these guys are pretty safe bets for the long term

I agree that they may not be the finished articles but think their upside is through the roof and they seem like the type of players who are willing to put in the hard work to reach their best and I dont see that in a lot of these guys especially crabtree.
I also think both of these players can compete for starting roles immediately and are potential difference makers.

ITS NEVER A SAD DAY TO BE A RAIDAAAAAA!!!

Still dont know why

all of you think Crabtree is not a hard worker. Please explain how a guy who became the best receiever in the NCAA never played the position in high school. I’m not gambler, but I would bet hard work had something to do with it. I think I know why the Raiders continue to suck. The fans are too dumb to realize there needs to be a change in who is calling the shots for the team, while Al Davis continues to screw things up in front of your faces…o well, at least you THINK it will help you win.

Youre saying TechTom should go away cuz he disagrees with YOU. Cuz tom is wrong in the sense that MOST of the people on this blog agree this was a dismal draft for Al & da Raiders. The polls on your blog says it, the yahoo sports page says it Averaging out the completely meaningless draft grades of which SBNation is a part.

so go ahead and put your hands over your ears and scream, “la la la, I can’t hear you” all you want. Enjoy your misery.

I’m not saying for tiny tom to go away because he disagrees with me, I’m saying to go away if your going to call us dumb fans and say the raiders suck on a raiders fan site. If you read any of the other posts, you will see that I am one of the few raider fans that completely hated our draft this year along with previous years but what can I do except voice my opinion. I guess I have to wait and see along with the rest of the raider nation that our picks turn out for the best.

Why are you and tiny tom even on this site anyway? I’m sure texas tech and crabass have their own fan sites so you guys can go on there and tell them how much you love them!

i agree with the dhb pick only because know we have a deep threat. And with walker, or chazz we then have a shorter pass game. plus we have JLH to help everywhere on offense and specal teams.

by buffonjr2 on Apr 26, 2009 10:51 AM PDT reply actions   0 recs

So much for this draft

another WR Louis Murphy and an unkown OLB in the 4th. Still no help on the RUN support.
The problem I have with this draft is the RAIDERS are not smart drafters

Okay you want DHB trade down and get him as for Mitchell he could have been there in the 3rd or 4th easily (I don’t believe Chicago was going take him in the 2nd) They drafted DE,WR,DE all in the 3rd no safety with good safeties on the board.

Now they draft another worthless Gator WR when we should have drafted a CB like (D.Johnson) or DT like C.Baker or Mitchell Then we draft a LB that we could have gotten in 7th or FA Slade Norris With Brinkley still on the board. There is very little value for any one of there picks.

Now I’ll be happy if DHB and Mitchell pan out But it will never make this a good draft especially IF the available higher rated players on board have good careers.

actually murphy was a good pik cuz walker really isnt in our future plans

we want jlh to mainly be a returner, just look at hester last year, was really ther no.1 guy an he wasnt the same returning an schilens will challenge for the 3rd spot between him alker an murphy. but ya we now need a d tackle

Crabtree - DHB

The last hyped Crabtree by the so called experts to be drafted by the Niners was in 2004. The player was Rashaun, the last name slips me, and he had more TD’s in College then Crabtree. He was a lot like Crabtree, slow but did real well in College and he was “can’t miss” per the fools.

The dude caught 1 TD his rookie year and never caught another pass in the NFL since his rookie season. Any one remember the can’t miss re-tread WR from the Lions we brought out to Oakland for a try because of Kiffin?

Point is only time will tell with regards to Crabtree and Bey but Bey. One thing to remember with the Raiders, they do not want a “Poor Man’s” esisting type NFL player. The Raiders are looking for the type of players other players are being compared as poor man versions to.

Nnamdi is one of those kinds of players and was questioned by many when he was selected and now he is becoming what all cornwers will be compared to. Point is chill out. I know one thing, the corner with 4.58 speed the Bronco’s gave up next years 1 for should have a hell of a time trying to cover DHB.

As to the safetey pic? the kid can play, when Cable said he knocks people out he meant he knocks people out. He knocked 3 players out cold while in College, he is 220 lbs and can fly. A beast against the run and good in coverage. He is a smart player and I think he was a great pick. We have not had an inforcer in our secondary for years.

by snnyjcbs on Apr 26, 2009 10:00 PM PDT reply actions   0 recs

Delusional

the fact that he is tall and fast and hits hard is irrelevant. You could have drafted him much later in the draft and but instead the value of that pick in terms of draft position and money you will have to pay him is destroyed by drafting him that high. Saying he can run and hit misses the point completely

Raider logic revealed:

In the first quote, the success that the player enjoyed in college is viewed as irrelevant and is even used as supporting material to propose that, because he is simiar to him, the same will happen to Crabtree. However, in the second quote, the player is lamented to be a “great pick” due to his ability to “knock players out” in COLLEGE. I don’t think there is a more contradictory or hypocritical statement than this one. I guess when the people in charge of a franchise dont know what they are doing or talking about, it rubs off on the fans.
