My New Raiders Mock Draft

There has been a lot of talk about who we should pick up in the first round, so I decided to really look into all of our options and make a decision. So what I have done is made to Draft scenarios. The first is us taking Orakpo at #7, which is this one, and the second is us taking Crabtree at #7, which I will post later.

I did this Mock Draft as real as it can be, because I have seen a couple of Mock Drafts where they say we can pick up Aaron Curry which is highly impossible.

So take a good look at this Mock Draft and don't foget to be opened minded and really think about how the draft and who we pick could really effect how we do in the season and possibly the playof

Star-divide

If we are going to be taking Brian Orakpo at #7 then we have to be picking up a WR in the 2nd round.

1. Brian Orakpo- "A sturdy, muscular lineman with impressive power and strength for his size. Displays a good first step out of his stance and does a nice job playing with natural leverage and flexibility around the corner. Uses his hands and upper body strength well to shed blocks and does a nice job finding the ball. Showcases good footwork and body control to redirect and close on the QB."

A real "BEAST". He brings to the table a variety of talent, strength, and versatility. Brian Orakpo is the best DE in the draft and not only can he play DE but can be switched to OLB and still be great there because he has the speed, size, and intellegence to play at noth positions. Adding Orakpo to our Defense would extremely help us and would compliment our other great DE Derrick Burgess.

2. Brian Robiskie- "A natural receiver who does all the little things right. Displays good balance and body control as a route runner and does a nice job setting up corners. Uses his hands and length to pluck balls away from his body. Showcases an ability to beat press coverage and get into his routes. Understands zone and man concepts and knows where to find the soft spot." I believe he will be a "Steal" in the 2nd round.

3. Frantz Joseph- "Plays with great power and leverage near the line of scrimmage. Has a physical build and is a real plugger inside. Loves to attack downhill and consistently creates collisions on contact. Plays with controlled rage and consistently takes on blockers. Has the strength and punch to create space and get after the ball. Plays a lot faster than he times and rarely misses a tackle."

4. Khalif Mitchell- "Possesses an ideal size, length and overall power for the position. A gifted physical athlete for his size and does a nice job coming off the snap low and gaining initial space with his punch. Is consistently able to bull rush and push the pocket as well as be stout at the point of attack. Can be very disruptive and downright unblockable when he keeps his pad level down."

7. Kevin Ellison- Has the build of a linebacker and plays with a mean streak over the middle of the field. Loves to attack downhill and is a force vs. the run game. Displays good footwork and short-area quickness for his size. Possess good instincts and awareness deep, seldomly gets beat over the top down the field. Takes great angles in the pass game and consistently dislodges ball from man on contact. An old-school, intimidating force at the second level.

problems

1. Khalif mitchell will most likely be a late round or UDFA

2. Same goes for Joesph as the issue at #1

3. Kevin Ellison will be a fourth or fifth round pick. No way he falls to 7th.

nope...

Frantz Joseph is the 3rd best Middle LB and is way to good to even go past the 3rd round. Everyone is saying Jasper Brinkley in the 3rd, but Jasper Brinkley looks super weak next to Frantz Joseph. I say we do pick up Frantz Joseph in the third.
As for Khalif Mitchell you are right maybe we could get him in the 7th round.
And Kevin Ellison I just added because I couldn’t think of any other good S that could fall to the later rounds.

This Mock Was

Pretty bad. I am being honest bro, it sort of took the “excitement” away from speculating for the draft.

I think it is Rak, who I don’t really want because we have too much talent at the DE position already.

Also, you took the sleepers from Liveadam’s post and gave one of our third round picks to one of them. (Joseph) Brinkley would’ve been nice here.

The fourth pick I actually like. He looked good on the post by Liveadam.

Also, with the 2nd round pick, I think we should grab Gilbert.

Mock Draft

First two rounds are perfect, though at this point you probably have to go 50/50 between Robiskie and Barden.

After that I see a couple of problems with this mock:

First, you’ve probably reached on Joseph by at least one round. The highest mock I saw him go was in the 4th round. Most people have SS Chip Vaughn slated for our 3rd round pick. He’s a great talent and shores up a bigger need than LB. If Vaughn isn’t there and the Raiders don’t want to reach on another S I hope they look to LB. I would grade Brinkley higher than Joseph for now, but I have no idea if the Raiders would do the same. The fact that Brinkley is just as fast, if not faster, than Joseph despite being at least 20 lbs heavier (mostly muscle) makes me think so though.

Same goes for Khalif Mitchell, he’s probably at best a 6th rounder, and maybe just as likely a priority free agent. I do think the Raiders will target a DT here, but a NT more than a 3-technique guy like Mitchell.

Most Likely Draft: Brian Orakpo, Ramses Barden, Chip Vaughn, etc.

by LiveAdam on Apr 3, 2009 4:49 PM PDT reply actions

my opinion on Vaughn in the third is

we should and most likely will draft him with our third, unless some great talent falls to us. If we don’t draft him, it means we got Brinkley or Sammie Lee Hill. If we don’t draft Vaughn in the third, look for us to draft Bruton or Ellison in the fourth. If we do draft Vaughn, it’s hard to tell what we’ll do in the fourth. Most likely, you’ll see Nick Reed, William Appleby, or Worrell Williams as the fourth round LB for Oakland. Jason Phillips might drop that far and I hope and pray he does. If not, Appleby is a 250 pound guy who I think should definitely start should we draft him.

by KA1Z3R on Apr 4, 2009 7:06 AM PDT up reply actions

Or

We can address that need before the draft with Roy Williams or Mike Brown. Also, did Dawana Laundry sign anywhere?

by Rayder K on Apr 4, 2009 12:27 PM PDT up reply actions

Not sure those guys address the need

Landry re-signed with the Ravens on Thursday. Williams and Brown have not gotten any interest in free agency yet. With the draft only a few weeks away I think teams are willing to wait until after the draft to fill any remaining holes with players like these. If the Raiders don’t get anyone they like for S in the draft, then you may see them talk to R. Williams, but not before.

Most Likely Draft: Brian Orakpo, Ramses Barden, Chip Vaughn, etc.

by LiveAdam on Apr 4, 2009 1:14 PM PDT up reply actions

Alright then...

I think I understand what you guys are saying…I think I did mess up on this Mock, but tell me what you think about this one.

1. Brian Orakpo
2. Jarron Gibert
3. WR like: (Mike Thomas or Demetrius Byrd or Ramses Barden or Deon Butler)
4. Frantz Joseph
7. Best S available

And if you don’t like that one tell me what you think about this one:

1. Michael Crabtree
2. Sean Smith(if he falls that far down)
3. Mike Thomas
4. Jasper Brinkley
7. Best DT Available

Tell me which one you like more the first or the second one.

by L.A. Raiders on Apr 3, 2009 8:49 PM PDT reply actions

those are better

by Rayder K on Apr 3, 2009 10:49 PM PDT up reply actions

first one

but why would we get Gilbert if we just drafted Orakpo? My only critique is that the second should be either a DT like Hood or a WR like Barden/Robiskie. Your draft is very good everywhere else.

V- "I'm not questioning your powers of observation. I'm merely remarking on the paradox of asking a masked man who he is."

by KA1Z3R on Apr 4, 2009 7:10 AM PDT up reply actions

Because...

Jarron Gilbert can play both DE and DT, he would be playing DT with the Raiders when he builds up more muscle he is 6’5’’ 288.
As for the 2nd one i think that Hood is going to be gone because I was reading on this one website that the Pats wanted to get him. Also the Titans would be wanting to get him to replace Haynesworth now that he is gone.
And as for getting a WR in the 2nd I think Mike Thomas is a big steal in the 3rd, he is a great WR the only bad hing about him is that he is only 5’9’’. He might turn out to be like Steve Smith though. You guys should look at some tape on Mike Thomas he played for Arizona. Another good WR i see that might fall to the 2nd is Demetrius Byrd, he would also be a steal in the 3rd.

by L.A. Raiders on Apr 4, 2009 9:21 AM PDT reply actions

I really don't think he is a DT

He is too speedy to put there. He is either a DE or LB. Period.

I like the second one

but i whould put Frantz Joseph in the second one, I like that guy.

by ra8ers fan on Apr 4, 2009 2:50 PM PDT reply actions

I don't claim to be the smartest raider fan but if it where me?

Though I believe crabtree is a exciting player and along with Russell and McFadden could lay a solid foundation to a new young team that could grow together which is truly how you rebuild teams I believe you can rebuild them even faster by trading down, trading down, trading down…………… Theres enough talent in this draft in the later rounds that we could end up with two good wide receivers not to mention bulk up on defense if not free agency, I myself like lots of draft picks not just a few and there are bargain basement deals to steal in later rounds, just an opinion?

by anodizeman on Apr 5, 2009 10:29 AM PDT reply actions

I fully agree

That’s why I say Huff needs to be traded while he still has SOME value. We could get a decent fifth for him, where we could try to get a sleeper pick. Al has an eye for sleeper talent, and there’s plenty of sleepers in this year’s draft.

Ok, How You Like This Draft

1 – Michael Crabtree
2 – Jarron Gilbert
3 – Fili Moala
4 – Jasper Brinkley
7 – Khalif Mitchell

I love it

except there’s no safety. =( But it’s a pretty good draft to me. But why have two DT’s? I’d rather the seventh be Otis Wiley. We all know i love him and Jason Phillips. On that note, I don’t think Brinkley will far to the bottom of the fourth where we make our selection. I don’t think he falls past the Chiefs as they’ve been looking at him.

Here’s one for ya:

1- Brian Orakpo
2- Ramses Barden
3- Dorrel Scott/Terrence Taylor
4- Jason Phillips
7- Otis Wiley

How about this?

1-B.J Raji
2-Ramses Barden
3-Chip Vaughn
4-Fili Moala
7-Otis Wiley

two safeties and no LB?

elaborate on that please. i don’t mean to sound like a jerk, just wondering your reasoning for it.

I'm Sorry guys

I don’t watch any collage football and I didn’t even know anybody in the draft until a few months ago. This isn’t my time I’m a lot better in regular season time than off season and draft. Like I said I am sorry I just decided to take a go at it and failed. I only know a few good people in the draft. Can’t wait till Regular season to start so I know alot more about what I’m talking about.

Awful first 2 picks.

Raji is dumb and a druggy.
Barden is overrated because of competition and he had a good combine.
The other 3 are good, but we would only take 1 safety.

by posey440 on Apr 5, 2009 3:40 PM PDT up reply actions

You only hate on Barden

because you want Crabtree =P jk.

I hate on him because he isnt as good as the press clippings say he is.

I would way rather have hakeem kicks than barden. Barden is the reincarnation of mike williams. The big long striders in the nfl dont make it anymore. Mike williams and matt jones are perfect examples and did it against the sec and the pac 10, not the big west or whtever conference ramses did it against.

by posey440 on Apr 5, 2009 6:18 PM PDT up reply actions

okay you gave two exmaples of players like Barden who were bad

here’s two examples of good ones. Burress and Owens. Except he doesn’t have the character issues.

V- "I'm not questioning your powers of observation. I'm merely remarking on the paradox of asking a masked man who he is."

by KA1Z3R on Apr 5, 2009 6:22 PM PDT up reply actions

TO isnt a long strider. He is only 6'3, not 6'6''

Burress is the exception to the rule. He is one of the few successful long striders in this league. Him, james hardy who hasnt shown much but is still young, and maybe vincent jackson but he runs different than barden. Jackson is lighter on his feet and moves his feet faster in and out of his breaks. barden lumbers but because of his long strides his average speed looks like he is fast.

I Think

I want Crabtree for some reason. I think we can grab a DT later like Fili who is great.
