Since nobody else wants to do it, I'll do it.
Raider fans are split between Orakpo, Crabtree, and Raji. BREAKING NEWS: Raji's drug test results proven to be false. (ESPN)
But, all the mock drafts i've seen on the web have us taking JEREMY MACLIN. Seems weird that nobody talks about what he brings to the Raiders as much as the other prospects.
Do we need a true "possession receiver"? Yes. Do we already have a load of fast receivers? Yes. Is another speedy receiver an downgrade? Not quite.
Yes, Maclin ran a 4.6 in the combine, but that's not his true speed. Maclin for a damn fact is the fastest prospect in this draft that can actually impact a team ala Chris Johnson (Titans). Not just some speedy guy who all can do is return kicks (Devin Hester). Well, Raider fans, he can return kicks (Hester), as fast as anybody else (Chris Johnson), and has above average hands. Just not as much as Crabtree.
I know Maclin may be the last resolution for the Raiders at this point. But, if J.Smith, Curry, Orakpo, Raji, Crabtree, Monroe are all off the board which is very likely. What do we do? The Eagles are interested in Ocho Cinco at this point and trading up with the Raiders is out of the question. Especially when Crabtree is off the board.
Now for more Maclin scout reports. Maclin's cuts are SCARY fast and is reliable with the deep passes Russell will almost always throw. He has no attitude problems whatsoever, never been in the public eye on the negative side. From what I've heard, Maclin is a great team player, never demands the ball, only when needed. So we wouldn't have to worry about the characteristics from such NFL players (T.O., Ocho Cinco, Randy "Wide Open" Moss)
Another thing that seperates Maclin from Crabtree is his rare injuries. Only injury I remember from Maclin is his first game when he had an ankle injury. But managed to play the next game and throw a touchdown to Chase Daniel. Yes, Maclin can throw also, haha.
Maclin Iv'e heard also scored VERY high on his wonderlic test. If Michael Crabtree's ceiling is Larry Fitzgerald. Then Maclin's ceiling is Steve Smith, no pun intended.
I'm saying, Maclin is a great 7th place prize without a doubt.

You are correcct
Maclin must be considered. If the other players you listed are not there at #7, then it is far more likely the Raiders will choose Maclin rather then trade down.

I Thought they were Professionals
How can they make a mistake that could ruin someone’s life and Reputation. When I first heard this I would have felt sad for whoever took Raji but, now hearing that it was false I would love to have him with us.

Yo mont8ellis
Do you know if Brain Cushing is really on crack or was that a mistake too.

Im on the crabtree bandwagon...
but if he isnt there, we need to go defensive. His hands and RAC is just much better than the other two.
If we end up with Maclin, its because a qb wasnt taken in the first 6 picks.

We still dont know about The Raji drug tests
The information on all the drug tests will be released 1 week before the combine. But as for cushing, matthews jr, vontae davis and raji testing positive, i highly doubt it, but we will all know 1 week before the combine.
As for Maclin to the raiders i would be marginally happy. If we were to pick him i would not expect muh from him receiving wise his first year, but maybe he could develop. I still want crabtree.
And i still dont want raji. Offense was worse than the defense, and if you actually watch sands and warren and dont just go off of what the “experts” say, then you see they hold their own. If we get raji and we dont continue to give jamarcus weapons then expect the same type of rushing defense that we have had all these years because of the defense being on the field so long because our offense has a crap ton of 3 and outs.

Hey Guys
Tell me why I was watching Path To The Draft with the Raiders on the Clock and they were talking about us taking a offensive linemen or Heyward Bey. Never even mentioned Raji, or Crabtree?

Because of bias and because they are being ignorant.
Remember these are the same people that said the raiders would hop all over TO when he was available, and they didnt even give him a sniff in real life. The whole “AL Davis loves speed” thing is the reason why the raiders are supposedly gonna take heyward bey, and the whole “the raiders love troubled players” is the reason behind the andre smith thing.
Mayock is just making an educated guess (not a very well educated one) n the pick because heyward bey is the most athletic specimen of the receivers and he is the best height, weight speed guy.
These types of picks in some mock drafts are made more for the controvercy and to do exactly what they are doing right now. These types of bold moves excite the fan bases, positively or negatively, and get them talking and involved. This is a move for TV ratings and to get people to watch path to the draft because they want to see what kinds of crazy picks come next.
My thinking is that Mayock and Kiper Jr. and McShay all have their draft boards and mock drafts set and have been set for the last week. They will change maybe 2 or 3 picks over the next few weeks, mostly when the results of the drug testing is released.

Trade Down Still Slightly Possible
But, if J.Smith, Curry, Orakpo, Raji, Crabtree, Monroe are all off the board which is very likely. What do we do?
Its a marginal possibility, but in your nightmare scenario of neither Stafford or Sanchez going in the Top 6, some team like the Jets or the Bucs may be afraid that either QB will fall into Denver’s or Jacksonville’s laps and they’ll lose their chance on them, forcing them to trade up. It’s a remote possibility, but would still exist.
If not, we have to trust that the Raiders take the player they feel is the best available and fills a position where we needed an upgrade. Whomever that may be, I’m sure we’ll all root for that player to do an amazing job. If it’s Maclin, so be it, and go Raiders.
Most Likely Draft: Brian Orakpo, Ramses Barden, Chip Vaughn, etc.

There is only one true assumption about al davis, and that is that he doesnt trade down.
Its a maybe in my mind, and could benefit us well, but i dont see it.

or maybe Everette Brown
or even Maualuga. Even in that "nightmare’ situation I’m not too worried. There’s still plenty of top-10 talent there.

Id take cushing before maualuga
He can move inside and out and does all the little things right. He isnt the enforcer that maualuga is but he is faster and smarter. And he does the little things and makes the routine plays that it seems like we dont make enough of. And everrette brown is a mid first rounder to me and is too high at no. 7. Personally I think one of the best DEs coming out of college is going to be larry english for NIU, but he is way too high at 7.
But cushing will be there at 7 and i would even take him over Raji.
Comment me all you want with the “Are you stupids?” because i like warren and sands more than ricky brown.

Davis wants us to win
There is only one true assumption about al davis, and that is that he doesnt trade down.
As this offseason has proven, all the assumptions about Al Davis are out the window except his motto :“just win baby”. Al and Tom already have a draft “plan” for the draft, and that will include trading down if it gives us a better chance to win.

Cushing is an interesting option
but I really want morrison on the outside and I’ve heard a lot of rumors that says Oakland could move him there this year if they get a good enough MLB.

I am always puzzled
by the comments that one guy is too high for #7. Who is to say that a guy picked #15 won’t be better than a guy picked #3? All of these rankings are artificial as we well know. Take any draft of the last 15 years at random and you will find major flops in the first 10 picks, and guys picked in the 2nd round that are super stars. Just because that moron Kiper says a guy is a mid-first does not make it so. If a team feels that they need Cushing they shouldn’t back away because he is not a #7 but a #15, that is just plain silly.
I for one think Crabtree is not going to be that good, but he is the flavor of this draft. Every year it is the same, some guy who has good college stats is hyped far beyond his abilities and a team bites on the hype and lives to regret it. I remember a few years ago it was Reggie Bush who was the flavor of that draft, and Houston was pulverized for not taking him, and N.O. was elated, guess who was right? I also remember how the Raiders were bashed for not taking Leinart, and how Tennessee got the break of the draft with Vince Young, that hasn’t worked out very well. The Raiders were praised for drafting Huff, so far, not a good choice. There are some very good, if not great ball players who are going to be drafted in the 3rd-7th rounds and everyone will just shrug.
I hear all this stuff about Raji, last year it was Dorsey, next year who knows? Bottom line, about 5 of the guys picked in the top 10 will be ordinary players with little impact on the success of their teams. Remember Couch, Harrington, Akili Smith, not to mention a dozen tackles, linebackers and DB’s who are now out of the league, all picked in the first 15.

No doubt we have a 50/50 shot with this pick
And yeah there are safer bets within the draft that you can find in the later rounds.
Brian Robiskie is the safest pick at receiver, but as a prospect he offers little more than just being a solid receiver. That is why crabtree is rated higher because he has more “potential” to be great and more tools. And why maclin is igher rated too because of his long speed and game breaking ability.
And i wouldnt compare reggie bush to michael crabtree or glenn dorsey to bj raji. Reggie bush was undersized from the get go, being a 200lbs. rb in the nfl you dont find alot of success stories. Michael Crabtree has more than adequate size and strength at 6’1’’ and a half and 215lbs. And Dorsey was the only interior lineman they had and got most of the attention as a rookie. Raji is more of a run stopper whie dorsey was better pass rusher.
When i say picking a player too high is basically an analogy like this….
Looks when you are going to in and out burger and you get a 3 by 3 with grilled onions, you know it is gonna taste good. But you dont want to necessarily spend 20 bucks on one burger. Not alot of bang for your buck, even though you know it is going to be good regardless.
LOL. Im a fat ass.

Totally agree Laoren, good point
If Al and tom took Cushing at #7 I would be excited about the pick becase we need to adress our run defence. WR is stocked in this draft and I personallyt would like to see DHB or Barden at #40 instead of Hood

would still like to see
defense addressed in the first round (Orkapo, Raji) and wide receiver in the second with Barden
looking forward to the next 30 years of this team

thank you
finally another who sees things like I do. Even though I really really don’t want Raji and would much rather have Crabtree who I’m indifferent towards. Go with orakpo, if not him, get Crabtree if he’s there, if not either then Everette Brown. If Oakland doesn’t want brown, then trade down.
